Miranda Trent was the girl that had it all; she had a wonderful husband, great friends, and a little bundle of terror on the way. To say that the girl was ecstatic about her life was one thing, but the overly abundant amount of homework that never seemed to cease was another story entirely. The brunette was perched on the couch with her school books thrown everywhere over the coffee table, her coffee mug was filled with honey tea, and there were pencils scattered around. Randi had been trying for months to get out of the hole that her honeymoon had dug her into, and then with how sick she felt at the beginning of her pregnancy she was missing classes. There were always rumors about why Jared and Miranda had gotten married, but she knew the truth. So did Jared, and the people of this town could say whatever they wanted about the two of them. It was just sheer luck that he had gotten her pregnant the first time they had even slept together. Which was why when Baby Trent decided to kick that she smiled with joy. IT wasn’t the way they had planned their lives, but it was how it was. Leave it to Kaler Scott to be able to talk her down whenever she needed and that was when she heard the knock on the door. Randi pushed herself up off the couch and made her way over to the door with a bright smile on her face. There was her study buddy and very well her best friend. Kaler was standing there with ice cream in his hands; he always managed to come prepared. “Kaler, you didn’t need to bring ice cream! Jared picked some up earlier, but did you eat dinner yet?” She let him into the house and followed him as she sat back down on the couch refusing to think about food just yet. For being a sleepy little coastal town, there sure seemed to be a lot happening in Arietta these days. Kaler had been here for two years and he had gotten quite used to how things worked here. It was surprising to those from the outside, those that wouldn’t understand, but for residents of this town, it was understandable. No matter what was happening, it was news worthy. People would be gossiping and whispering, and it seemed that lately they had more than enough to keep their jaws running. Kaler’s name was here and there, but not nearly as much as the Trent family seemed to be far more interesting than anything that Kaler could stir up these days. There was the young married couple that was now expecting a little one for starters. Everyone wondered if their baby was the reason for their hasty marriage, and Kaler just rolled his eyes at the idiots that didn’t know any better. He, however, knew that wasn’t the case at all but it would do no good to correct those that already had their minds made up. Then, there was Mykayla Trent and her news about being diagnosed with cancer, pregnant, and seemingly engaged all at the same time. That one was throwing everyone for a loop, Kaler included as he never thought Kay would be the one to have so much drama in her life. Kaler cared about the little blonde like she were his sister, but today his attention was going to Randi Trent, Jared’s young wife and the other pregnant girl in the equation. He arrived at her home for their study session of the day, ice cream in had because he knew that she would want it. When Randi opened the door, Kaler offered a small smile for his friend as she told him that Jared had already gotten ice cream. Kaler rolled his icy blue eyes. ”Whatever, princess. You’ll be through both what Jared got and this before the day is up. And no, I haven’t eaten yet. Why?” He walked into the house, closing the door behind him and kicking his shoes off there before walking into the kitchen and put the ice cream in the freezer before it melted.

The brunette was in an incredibly good mood as she let Kaler into her home. She should have known that he would be standing there with a tub of ice cream, because it was the usual thing. Every male that knew Randi knew her fixation on ice cream, and nine times out of ten anyone that was entering their home had a tub of ice cream with them. She watched as Kaler made his way into her kitchen with a smile on her face. Baby Trent was doing acrobatics as he or she tossed and turned in her ever growing belly, but she was happy that she was able to experience this with her sister in law Mykayla. The blonde had dropped a bomb on the family, but Randi understood exactly where she was coming from when it came down to the fact of baby over mommy. The youngest of the two mothers would have made the same decision, but at least Mykayla was finishing up school. Randi had the feet of trying to make it through two years of this with a newborn growing into a toddler. The young wife followed into him into the kitchen trying to decide what she had to make for them for dinner. Jared had some kind of night shift at the marina, so it was just Kaler and Randi tonight. She was going to have to cook something, or make Kaler do it. Both were likely options, or maybe he would help her. Either way, she rolled her hazel eyes at him. “Because I am going to poison you with my cooking while you help me with my homework. I am not that huge of an ice cream pig that I would eat both of those! Besides, it isn’t my fault.” Her gaze turned from Kaler to Baby Trent and then back to Kaler. “So, what are you in the mood for? I think we have some kind of pizza in the freezer if you want that for dinner and we can try and tackle the massive amount of homework that is sitting on the coffee table.” She frowned at the school work and then made her way over to the fridge to look in the freezer and bumped Kaler with her hip to get him out of her way.

Kaler could find his way around this house easily enough. For one, it wasn’t that big to start with and there was absolutely no risk of getting lost in it. For two, Kaler could practically call this his third home after his own and Vidette’s. He was here at Jared and Randi’s all the time, whether he was pulling a study session with the young mother-to-be, or helping out his best friend with some work that needed to be done around the house. Kaler was supposed to be Randi’s tutor specifically, but there were some things that he was rather handy at and his help was required to fix something up. Either way, it was easy to see why Kaler felt so comfortable here and was perfectly at ease as he was putting the ice cream away in the freezer. Kaler rolled those eyes of his once again as she joked about poisoning him with dinner. He knew that there were some people in this town that would be glad to see him go, but Randi cared about him way too much for that kind of thing. As for her not being that much of an ice cream pig, well, they would see. He did have to grin as she tried to blame this all on Baby Trent, as the child that grew inside of her was not affectionately called by all that were close to the Trent family. But, then she was offering to make him pizza, and Kaler was all ears. ”Pizza sounds good,” he said, shooting her another amused look as she bumped him with her hip, Kaler taking the hint and stepping out of the way. ”So what kind of work do we have to do today?” Kaler was more than happy to help a friend out, and it was probably nerdy of him but he was actually happy to help Randi with her homework too. Kaler had been a good student once upon a time, and the kinds of things that Randi was working on were actually pretty easy for him.

Randi Trent had long since learned to appreciate Kaler Scott and everything that he was. Sure he kept the town on his toes with his crazy ass antics, but that was just who he was. She loved him in his own Kaler ways, and it was not hard to understand why. Ever since she had met him, there was something about the way the two of them clicked that she knew he would always be there for her. It also did not hurt that he had been her husband’s best friend since he moved to their fair city. Randi went to Kaler about everything that she couldn’t talk to Jared about, so there was no way in hell her statement about poisoning the man would be true. She needed him in her life a little too much, but it was still fun to taunt him. The brunette had to grin whenever he did, because it was a known fact that this little one growing inside her would remain genderless until he or she arrived to grace them with their presence. So for now everyone that was close to them called her little baby bump Baby Trent. She was all smiles as she pulled the pizza out of the freezer, and that was how she was. Kaler was always fun to be around; the smile on her face was quickly disappearing as she thought about the massive amounts of homework that was going to have to be tackled tonight. “Good, pizza is good. I am really glad we have this hawaiian pizza!” She pulled the pizza pan down and threw their dinner in the oven. Randi turned her head to the pile of homework after she set the timer and made her way back over to her perch on the end of the couch. She sat down and frowned at everything sitting in front of her. “Where to begin? We have a little bit of everything today, and a few papers that are due in a few weeks. Take your pick, because honestly I don’t care what we do. I just want it to end!” She grabbed her coffee mug and sipped on her tea. She was now just sad that she had to start this. It was annoying how her teachers thought it was so funny to pile on everything, and she waited for Kaler to point her in the direction she needed to go. Without his motivation the mommy-to-be would have said to hell with it, but Kaler would never let her slack on her studying which was a really good thing.

Kaler hadn’t even really realized how hungry he was until Randi mentioned something about food. Kaler was the type of guy that could go the whole day without eating simply because he didn’t think about it, but at the same time he could eat an entire pizza by himself and never gain an ounce from it. This pizza was sounding like a pretty great idea now, though, and it being a Hawaiian pizza made it even better. He stood back as he watched his friend tear the pizza from its packaging and put it in the oven. In just under a half hour, they’d have something good to eat and Kaler was definitely excited for it. But, while they waited they could get a good start on some of Randi’s work for school which was really the reason Kaler was there anyway. He followed her into the living room and took a seat with her on the couch, listening as she told him what there was to do and picking up a few papers, trying to see if he could make sense of it. “Well, what’s going to be the easiest for you to do out of all of this? Because that’s what you should work on and I’ll try to see what I can do with these papers.” He wanted Randi to pick out something little, something that was just more tedious than anything but it still had to be done regardless. Kaler picked up a sheet of paper that listed criteria for one of those research papers she had mentioned. “I’ll work on this while you do that. Deal?” Kaler understood that Randi didn’t benefit at all with him there basically willing to just do the work because it would be easier for him that way, so it wasn’t like he was writing the entire paper. He picked up her laptop then and set to work, and by the time that their pizza was done he could guarantee that he would have links to all the sources that she would need saved in a folder on her desktop, along with an outline already made of what the paper was going to be. Kaler was just awesome like that.

There were little things about Kaler Scott that made her appreciate their friendship that much more, and the fact that he was willing to help her with her homework was one of them. Randi was able to see this side of him, the side that almost no one else did and she loved it. When she first asked him about this tutoring thing, she could not believe how giddy he was over homework. It was completely dorky and as he grabbed her laptop to start working on one of the two papers that were due she couldn’t help but let a smile grace her lips. “I guess I can handle that.” Randi picked up her history book and looked at the four page study guide that her professor had so kindly given her. She had a little less than a half hour to try and find all of the answers if she wanted it done before she stuffed her face. Randi read over everything and made it through a little over a page before she just chucked the book and threw her pencil. The brunette was frustrated beyond belief and just did not want to do it anymore. That was when her hazel eyes looked up and realized she had hit Kaler with the pencil she had just chucked. Her hands flew to her face, to cover her mouth, and help stifle the laugh that was trying to escape her lips. Randi could just see the look of shock that had found his face after the pencil made contact with his face. “Oops! I hate history, and a four page history study guide is not easy! It is annoying and half the answers aren’t even in the freaking book!” If it had been anyone else, there would have been a whole slue of cussing, but this was sweet innocent Randi and freaking was a good clue that she was extremely frustrated. “Did my evil pencil hurt you, Kaler?” She couldn’t help but giggle at that one, and waited for him to tell her that he was fine.
