The past couple of weeks had been really hard on Shayne and anyone that was close to her knew and understood that. The most important person to that scenario besides her brother was Landon, and there had been a lot of tension between them. Not that it was necessarily a bad thing, but her memory was hazy about the whole thing that happened after the bathroom. Shayne had this feeling that something had happened in the bathroom, that Landon wasn’t telling her. To be perfectly honest the brunette had no idea what had been going on between Rockie breaking into Landon’s house and pulling her out of the bathroom and then Chris showing up to look after her. Everything had been nothing but a mess for a long time. Her vacation was ending, and she was eventually going to have to go back to the hospital and face the fact that she was going to run into Jem at some point. That was a fact of what was going to happen, she was going to have to face the music of her own fucked up decision making and that was the beside the point. Now she had to make sure that her own mental instability was going to be able to handle that. The brunette grabbed her green scrubs and pulled them onto her petite body and was getting ready for work. Something that she had not done for a long time. Her ponytail was secured and she finally was starting to look something like her old self. Something that had taken almost two weeks to get too. She felt fresh and somewhat together, but a day in the emergency room would tell her what was really happening with her. The girl bounced down the stairs and went and found something to eat really quick. It was nine in the morning, Bailey had already left for school. Landon was somewhere, and she was there all alone. She figured the best thing to do would be to leave a note for the two of them to let them know that she had finally pulled herself together enough to go to work. Her delicate handwriting flew across the notepad that was beside the telephone, the first place that either Cambridge would look at when they returned, and see that she was safe. Hell the brunette had taken good measure to even text Chris and say that she was returning to work. It was something that caused a phone call and very much the point of her yelling at him just to prove that she was fine. She drove to the hospital and sat there staring at it. Shayne was sad to have to face this again. There was the possibility that she would see Jem and have to work with him but she had to push that away from her head. Shayne needed to pull herself together and that was when she finally pulled herself out of the car and started the walk into the hospital. Everyone that knew her knew that she was a mess, and that it was going to take a lot longer to pull herself together than two weeks. The brunette had been in love, and she had caused the heartache and ruin that was her life now. It was her own fault and thankfully she was able to get wrapped up in the work that was going around in the emergency room. The emergency room was bumping that afternoon and she was constantly getting drug into trauma after trauma. There were a few broken bones and a few castings that needed done. But she was grateful whenever she had made it the entire day without running into James Hale. The EMT had caught her eye in that hospital, fallen in love with him, and now was going to have to face him every day that they were forced to see each other. Thankfully her first day back was not that day, and she slipped out of her scrubs before heading out of the hospital to her car. She was ready to be home and cuddled up with Landon, like she always was after things got complicated. She drove the distance from the hospital to Landon’s, it had become so familiar to her now that she probably could do it wither her eyes closed. Not that she would really wanted to, but her bright green Honda Element pulled up to the apartment that had basically become her home. She got out and locked the car and made it up the steps to her second home. Shayne opened the door and looked into the house. She took her shoes off and her coat. The scarf that was around her neck was coming off. Shayne was actually very put together for just pulling herself together within the last twenty-four hours. She poked her head around and was trying to find Landon before she finally just decided it would be better to yell and find him. Who knew what her best friend had been up to that day whenever she was gone. “Oh honey, I’m home! Where are you?” She waited to hear his voice coming from his bedroom. Shayne trekked up the stairs and entered his room with no hesitation. She smiled brightly and collapsed on his bed. “I forgot how tiring it was to work the emergency room, but on a good note...I went an entire day without seeing Jem at the hospital. AND I can say his name without spilling into a fit of tears. Aren’t you proud of me?” Shayne was actually in a fantastic mood, and it was rare to see her like this. That was whenever she propped herself up to look at him. There seemed like there was something that he wanted to say and she looked at him perplexed. “Something wrong? You look like something is on your mind. Spill Lando, what’s up?” She grabbed his hand and squeezed gently, letting him know he could tell her anything. TAGGED : LANDON // ALAINA

Two weeks. Two weeks was the longest time for him. Two weeks were the worst for him. Two weeks meant everything to him. Two weeks, was well, two weeks. To explain all of this, it can be simple really. Two weeks, maybe more, but two weeks sounds way better. Anyways, two weeks ago, was the day that his best friend came to him crying her eyes out. She had been wrong; it had ended with harsh words from two people, one of who weren’t him and a ride home from where they were at. It was the worst time ever. He never felt it, but he understood it. He never felt that way, because it never had happened to him, but from seeing her like that, he could feel it radiating off of her, and it made him feel like that, just a little bit though. And those weeks, were everything to him. He had to protect her, he had to make sure she was alright, he was there to make sure her world wouldn’t come crashing down on her, he had to do a ton of things just to make her feel better again, and to help bring her back to the person she was before this incident. He was the person to do that, and it made him feel great that he could do that. He was glad she had him as a best friend, who could take care of her and she felt comfortable with if she needed anything. For that, he was glad he had her, and she was glad she had him in his life. It just felt good, and it made sense that they would feel that way. That was a great bond they had, no one could really destroy it. That my friend is called Friendship. So, why was today really weird? There was no answer for it really. It was just a usual day for the life of Landon Cambridge. His usual routine was to get his sister up, make sure she was fed and watched her leave for her last year of high school. Then it would go to him, where he would get ready and go out for a run, at least a five mile run. It’s what kept him in shape. But, these last two weeks were slightly different. It was him getting up from the bathroom floor, grabbing his best friend and putting her into his bed as he got his sister ready for school and after go out for a run. He stuck to this routine, but it was time for him to get back into his own routine he had before. Last night, he had made sure she, his best friend Shayne Brennan, was in the bed she’s been staying at. He got himself in his pajamas and fell asleep. And this morning, was he was going to do what he had promised to do. So, this morning, he got himself up and got his sister ready like usual and sent her off to school. He went back to his room, got himself dressed in shorts and a wife beater, though it was spring, and went for a run. He had his phone and his IPod so that he could listen to his music and make sure his phone vibrates for any emergency. Anyways, he went back to his run, people never understood why he would run for at least five miles, but to him it was a piece of cake. Probably because he was the one always running to stay in shape, and his metabolism always kept him skinny for a guy. He wasn’t small or huge, but just how a guy with a masculine figure should have. He got back about an hour and a half later, seeing the little dog, gizmo as it was named, was playing with one of the toys. Now, Landon would take the dog out, but this wasn’t the type of dog that would run. He walked it though; it ended up to him taking care of it, though he didn’t mind it so much. He hated dogs, but this dog was something else. His sister had literally wanted a dog, so he gave in. At first, he didn’t seem to enjoy it, but this dog is growing more and more on him. He bent down, petted the dog for a few seconds, and then went to the normal house phone. He still had no idea why he had one, no one used it anyways, but he would get killed by the apartment landlord person for taking a phone away. So, he just never bothered with it. He noticed a yellow sticky note, just stating where she was and she was okay. A smile had appeared. It had been two weeks since she went to work, and he was proud that she was feeling up to go back to the hospital. He knew it would be trouble, but he was glad she attempted to go. Hopefully, he thought, it would be good for her. After all, he was starting to worry about her and what she was going to do about work, but after reading this, he didn’t have to worry so much about it anymore. Re-reading the note once again, he headed towards the stairs and back to his bedroom. He found clothes, the basic pair of jeans and a t-shirt, and headed to the shower. He could tell you more things about the bathroom than any part of the house. He turned the water on, letting it warm up, then undressed himself and went in. Sometimes the showers just relieved his stress. Which, in case you haven’t noticed, he hasn’t had a cigarette lately, try almost a year. What was something that many people didn’t know was that when Landon got stressed or frustrated, it ended with a cigarette. But lately, it seemed just like showers were helping him more. And the jogging has been helping too. Maybe it was time to throw away those packages he hides. Well, he never hid them, they were just there. He wasn’t addicted, trust me on that. He knew they were horrible, but he couldn’t help the fact that they helped calm him down. But like stated, it’s been almost a year since he had one. Yay for Landon. About thirty minutes later, he got out of the shower, shaking his head to get the water out of his hair, and wrapped himself in a towel. He grabbed his clothes again, and went back to his room to change. He never understood why he did that, but it was a habit, and I guess it’s hard to break habits. He changed quickly, taking the towel back into the bathroom to dry. All he had to do now, was just eat a bowl of cereal and go on with his day, probably sitting at the house doing nothing…. Or he could go out and get some groceries. After his bowl of cereal, which by the way, Capt. Crunch is his all-time favorite; he reached over for another pair of shoes and headed back to grab his things, then left the apartment again. He was used to coming and going, so it was no surprise for the neighbors. Landon got into his jeep and drove off into the small town, going to the basic stores to get the stuff he needed. He had the check list in his mind. More alcohol, snacks, drinks, toilet paper, dog food, another dog toy, and some cleaning stuff. He wasn’t the cleaning type, but he had to clean his own house, did he not? So, he got to the store, went looking for the things inside that he needed, and decided to grab some of the important stuff, well, never mind that because all of it is important. Landon just wen walking around the store, just aimlessly walking, making sure there wasn’t anything else he needed. Figuring out that he needed some other food, meat especially, he went over and grabbed the stuff needed. Yeah, he figured that he needed more than he imagined. Thank god he had money though. It was something he was thankful for, not in holy sense, but thankful he had money to pay. After grabbing everything from the store, he headed front, where he grabbed a packet of gum and some other candy, and set it down on the checkout, waiting for it to ring up. He probably owed at least fifty dollars. If not more. Landon paid, he had enough money to, and so he was happy. Few minutes later, he had everything in his jeep and drove home. And with him being by himself, he had more trips to make than ever. Oh well on his end. Now he had like a million and one hours until Shayne got home. But less than three until his sister got back from school. So, he had time for himself. This probably was just the fact of him lying on the couch with the TV and the little dog on his chest. He never understood why the dog was like that, but if the dog was comfy, then he was comfy. Hours and hours seemed to go by, to where there were trips down stairs to let the dog out and trips upstairs to his room. His sister decided to stay after a bit, and then go to her friend’s house. He didn’t mind, just as long as she was home later. Yes, Landon was still her parental figure until she was eighteen. Either way, he would still be the figure she needed and not to mention, she had Shayne as well. So she had the good life with them both. Eventually, this led Landon upstairs in his bedroom, taking a small nap around two in the afternoon. It wouldn’t last long, maybe three hours, but that’s the most. He wasn’t a nap person, but he was a dead sleeper. He was like his father, who slept through anything if you gave him the chance, but Landon wasn’t like that at all, he knew when he had to be awake and when it was appropriate to listen. Landon swore he would never be like his father, or like his mother. And he swore that his little sister would never turn out like them either. Someone would have to kill Landon to get that way to his sister. Yup, Landon was being protective. Landon got up his three hours later, like he knew he would. He stretched a bit, but laid back on the bed with his one arm behind his head and his other hand on the remote. Yep, he had a TV in the bedrooms, the Living room, and the basement type thing. There wasn’t a TV in Shayne’s room. Usually she just came to cuddle with him anyway, so it was where she would come to watch her TV. What the TV was doing, was bringing up something that did happen two weeks ago. He tried to block it out, noting that it was a drunken mishap, and he shouldn’t have worried about it. But he couldn’t let it go. Something about it screamed ‘I miss you’ or something. This was what the day was weird by. He couldn’t get his mind off of what happened two weeks ago, even with all the distractions today. He wouldn’t admit that though. Landon wasn’t the one to admit things; he kept things, like his emotions, to himself. But this was something he would have to talk about, because this wasn’t going to leave his mind unless it got talked about. Hopefully this was going to be in a good way, because he rather has it in a good way then a bad way. What was that thing you may ask? Shayne Brennan, with her drunken-self, maybe a mistake, had kissed him, Landon Cambridge. Oh Honey, I’m home. Where are you? The sound made him laugh a little bit, but nonetheless, he grinned. Landon sat himself up a bit in his bed as he heard her footsteps come up the stairs, then into his bedroom. He grinned again, watching as she came in and collapsed on his bed. Of course, he laughed a little bit, but nodded. That’s awesome dear. And yes, I am proud of you.. And with that little entrance which I heard, am I going to have to call you Lucille now? Because if I keep getting that, then I sure as hell will start calling you Lucille. Landon said, laughing at the end of it. He was trying not to look so conspicuous, but he couldn’t help it. Sometimes she could read him well enough that she would know that he was hiding at least something… well, bothering him mostly. Most of the time Landon had a good poker face, so sometimes it was hard to understand, but sometimes it was easy. Depended on the day actually. Yeah actually. Am I that guilty stricken? … Anyways, Do you remember what happened two weeks ago, on the night we sat in my bathroom for hours after the whole……. Incident? Landon said, leaving it there for now to see if she could actually remember. TAGGED: SHAYNE/AMBER <3

Shayne had actually thought about going to get some kind of psych consult, even see a psychiatrist. She had thought about it a lot as the day progressed, and she had set an appointment for the following afternoon. Shayne knew that what she did to cope with her issues were hardly what needed to be done. She was a closet alcoholic, and she knew that. It was only when her life really got depressing that she drank like she did. Those nights on the bathroom floor and seeing all the bottles of tequila on the floor made it very obvious that things were not right. It did not take a rocket scientist to figure that shit out. Hell for her entire life, since high school everyone just let Shayne get away with whatever was going on. They didn’t really try to figure out why she was the way she was; everyone just accepted it as how she was. They never cared to understand why she shut people out and why she sabotaged every good thing that ever happened in her life. Every romantic thing in her life was extinguished before it really got started, and the worst part was that Shayne knew that things could have been so very different with James. He treated her different than any other person in her entire life. He had really tried to get her to change, and she had accused him of something so far from his character. She knew he would never have done it, but she doubted herself. She doubted everything their relationship had been, and that had ended it. The brunette knew that she needed to apologize to the man, but she also knew that Jem would want nothing to do with her. It was something that was going to take time. Shayne finished her shift without complications and was on her way home. At least to her second home, which might as well be her home. Since the breakup, Shayne did not trust herself enough to be in her own apartment by herself. Not because she couldn’t be alone, but because of how emotional she had been. Shayne knew if she was alone in her apartment she would let herself slip back into the dark abyss. Some place that she did not need to be. Especially as she pulled into her parking spot. She was just happy to be home and getting off her feet. All she wanted to do was cuddle up to her human teddy bear and forget everything that was going on and get wrapped up in the mindless prattle of a television show. Shayne didn’t have a tv in her room at Landon’s but most of the time she didn’t even end up there. She would end up falling asleep with Landon, and he would either let her sleep or move her. At least that was whenever she was able to pull herself up off the bathroom floor and be a shadow of who she used to be. It was nice to be a somewhat functional person in society again, finally getting into the swing of things. Shayne always made a habit of being completely ridiculous as she entered the house, whether it was her impression of Ricky Riccardo like she had just done, or her stealthy Charlie’s Angels entrance. She managed to do something. When she entered his bedroom and flopped beside him, she tried to keep positive but whenever Landon said something about her entrance she just laughed. It was light and very much like the old happy Shayne had finally come breaking through the darkness. “Actually smartass, it was Ricky that did that. His honey was Lucy. Get your I love Lucy references right. Jeez, I have taught you nothing!” Shayne knew that something was bugging Landon, and the worst part was that she could tell he was trying to hide it. There was just something about him that was off, in a way that he wanted to talk about something but had no idea how to do it. Shayne had a faint idea why he was acting this way. Shayne knew that something had happened the night that Landon had saved her from her best friend’s birthday party and the day that her relationship had crashed and burned. Shayne knew exactly what he wanted to talk about just by looking at him. Landon was thinking too much about the kiss that had happened between them. She had been drunk and yet at the same exact moment that her lips had met his there was something that had been missing from everything that had happened with every other relationship. THere was history between Shayne and Landon, and that was never going to fade. Instead that past and their friendship that had built up over the past four years had created a whole different level to them. She had kissed him and there was something that was unexplainable. She knew that she had felt the spark that happened, and it just made her realize how much she missed him. She wanted to kiss him, and that made her worry even more. She did not want to jump into a relationship with Landon after everything. If she wanted anything to work with Landon then they were going to have to take this slow and figure everything out. That was when his voice pulled her out of her own little world. He was talking about being guilty, and she shook her head gently. “You forget that I know you so very very well, that I can tell when something is bothering you. No matter how well you think you hide it, nine times out of ten I know exactly what is wrong with you.” She listened more as his voice finally took him where they needed to be. “The night that my entire world fell through the floor and you were there to pick up the piece? Yes, of course I remember that night. I may have been completely trashed and wanted to forget, but there were pieces that are worth remembering.” Kissing him had been one of those pieces, and she wanted to tell him that. “But are you trying to ask me if I remember kissing you, because if that is what you want to know....then yes. Landon, of course I remember kissing you. Why would I want to forget that? It’s just complicated.” Complicated might not even be the best way to describe it, because after that kiss Shayne knew that she loved Landon Cambridge in a way that was not just her best friend. She loved him in his own little way, and what scared her even more was that her heart still ached because of the love she felt for Jem. Yet Landon was the one with the glue trying to piece her heart back together. Shayne really was a little fucked up in the head, and the counciling would do her some good to work through everything. NOTES : alaina i failed at meeting the challenge. i haven't slept well in days, but i wanted to give you something to do! <3
