Sure, she'll think she's won. But that's exactly the point. She would back off and move onto her next victim until she either gets bored and leaves town, or has Jem all to herself. And then you two can drop the act, because she wouldn't care anymore. I can't even begin to tell you all of the things Evie can do; she's a lot more damaged than everyone thinks. Trust me. I'm just trying to save your relationship, because knowing Vidette, she'll get sick of it all and give Evie what she wants no matter what.
