[bg=030303][th]

[bg=030303] .. [bg=101010] [scrolly:h(400),w(280),sy] Kaler Scott and Vidette Garland were not the couple that most people in this town would have ever put together themselves. People would probably rather see Kaler end up in a ditch somewhere thanks to some of his less than stellar behavior, and would certainly never imagine him in anything close to a committed relationship because he seemed to think of no one but himself. Vidette, on the other hand, was that sweet, kind, and caring girl that they all would have liked to see end up with some nice homegrown boy that was just as kind and mild as she was herself. That was what she deserved, after all, not this wild young man that had blown into this town two years ago and had kept everyone on their toes since then. Kaler was the one that they all saw as having no regard for anything, doing things for his own gratification and not caring who he had to step on or break in the process; just so long as he felt he was winning at his own games, that was all that mattered. That might have very well been the person that Kaler Scott had been two years ago when he had first arrived in Arietta, but since then a lot of things had changed, and most of them were due to the relationship that he had forged with Vidette. She had been different than any other woman that Kaler had come across in his life, and he had been with quite a lot of different types. This dark eyed beauty had just the right kind of something about her that had had Kaler interested from the beginning, but never daring to take a chance until one night when he had gotten her to trust him just enough to take her out. It seemed like after that one moment, Vidette had lit his world on fire.
This thing about her that had drawn him in and made him fall for her was in everything that she did, from the cute little way that she looked up at him to way her feet and balance seemed to betray her when in his presence. Whatever it was, Vidette had had Kaler addicted to her in no time, and living life without her for the month or so that he had to had been miserable. His smoking habit had increased sharply; food and taking care of himself hadn’t seemed as important. Depression over one girl had seemed pathetic, but this was the only girl in the world that could have that kind of hold over him. Vidette always kept him on his toes, which was another thing about her that made Kaler love her as he had been so used to women he could figure out within the first two minutes. Even now after having been what they had and ending up together as a couple, she still kept him guessing and Kaler didn’t think that he would ever have her fully figured out. Lately, Viddy was making it rather impossible for him to even go from day to day with any idea as to what she was going to do or what kind of mood she was going to be in. There was no doubting Kaler’s love for this woman he had so definitely attached himself to, but there were real doubts in his mind in some moments as to what exactly as wrong with her. He had teased her about being ADD all along, but now the condition she seemed to have was being bipolar. They could be sitting there as they always did, watching TV or chatting and suddenly it would be like someone flipped a fucking switch in her head and she was everywhere, going off about one thing or another. The next moment, she’d be apologizing and breaking down into tears, Kaler having no idea what to do about any of it except for be there and hold her, telling her that it was okay even though he was still ultimately clueless as to what had started it.
Kaler wrote it off as a woman thing that he wasn’t meant to understand and went with it, hoping that the overly emotional part of it would pass. However, he did see something of a perk to whatever it was that was going on with his girlfriend, and that had been discovered last night when he had arrived at his house after work to find Vidette already there in his bedroom, waiting on him with a seductive smirk on her lips and basically wearing only that. Now, he wasn’t saying that there had ever been any complaints about their sex life, because there really was nothing to complain about there at all, but god dang, this side of Viddy had been rarely seen before last night. She had wanted what she had wanted, and there had been no rest until those needs had been met. Kaler hadn’t been complaining at all, but it wasn’t something he had been expecting at all. They had to have set some kind of record and it had all left him sleeping like a log until late into the next morning. Kaler was ordinarily a late sleeper, not a lot waking the young man but he did stir to sounds coming from his kitchen, and the more he woke up he realized that someone was actually cooking. Viddy was not in his arms, and that meant that she had peeled herself away from him at some point. Kaler sighed, rubbing his hands over his sleepy eyes before pulling himself out of bed and finding a pair of sweat pants to put on before exiting his room and heading for the kitchen. Vidette was as he had thought he would find her, at the stove putting together what looked like an amazing breakfast…or was it brunch? Lunch? Kaler didn’t even bother to look at the clock as his blue eyes were on his girlfriend. He walked up behind her, letting his arms wrap around her waist as he pressed a kiss to her neck. “Good morning,” he told her, his voice still thick with sleep as he rested his chin on her shoulder, taking in the stove top. “Did you leave anything in the fridge?” Now he was just teasing, but he really couldn’t remember the last time that he had had a legit breakfast like what she was preparing. And honestly, he was starving.

Never in a million years did Vidette Garland ever expect her to life to be intertwined with Kaler Scott's in such an intensely intimate way. Her life had been fine before he came along; monotonous, but fine. She was happy in her little bubble of solitude, dipping her toes in the art of single-hood, and as odd as it was for her to be legitimately single, she didn't mind it all too much. It felt nice not having to worry about pleasing another human being every hour of every day, forgetting all of her own troubles to make sure that significant other was happy. Vidette was known for being the kind of girl who cared more about others than herself, so for once in her life she would proudly admit that it felt nice to worry about her. She had no baggage, no desire to be the 'perfect girlfriend' and to live up to expectations that she could barely reach with a fifteen foot pole. For the first time since middle school, Vidette Garland felt free. There was no denying how happy she had been with James Hale and Talan Davis, but it seemed that she had spent the entirety of high school tied to another person, the label in a relationship tacked to her forehead, leaving her no wiggle room to go out and be a reckless teenager. Everyone knew who she was and who she was with, and if she even tried to go out on the town with her girl friends, everyone would look at her with that disapproving "Does your boyfriend know where you are?" look, like she was doing something sinful. She began to feel like she was a married old woman, rather than a fresh-faced teenager. It had given her a bitter outlook on relationships, which she felt terrible about because neither of those boys had done anything wrong to push her away. It had been the simple concept of a relationship that turned her off, and one way or another it had become the demise of both of the only two serious relationships she had ever been in.
Strangely enough, being with Kaler didn't give her that same feeling of suffocation. Didn't instill in her the need to break free and live her own life without the commitment of pleasing another person. Didn't make her happy and sad at the same time, despite how little she trusted him. Rather, she felt more free in this relationship with him than she ever did in the past, even while single. Everything about this - about him - felt right for her. Sometimes, she got the impression that she would never be happy again if he were to leave her behind for someone else (namely, Isobel Slutfield), like her entire world would crumble and she would suffocate being single. It was terrifying, being this dependent on another human, but Vidette honestly couldn't complain. Kaler Scott made her the happiest she had ever been before, and despite all of their differences, she loved him. He was every kind of wrong for her, the kind of guy she avoided like the plague throughout the majority of her life because, really, who wanted to become attached to the biggest player of all time? So maybe she didn't want him at first, but he was exactly what the doctor ordered. Exactly what she needed. Kaler opened her eyes to the world, restored her faith in relationships, and reminded her that fun wasn't completely overrated and she didn't have to turn into this huge stick in the mud just because she wasn't a teenager anymore. He inspired her to live again and, in a way, that was a pretty huge deal. Vidette had only loved one person before Kaler, but still only allowed herself a mild attachment to him. She had been pretty sure that she was in love with Jem, but that had turned out to be simple teenage infatuation, which was why she didn't even think twice when Shayne had announced that she and Jem had been seeing each other. No; it was Talan Davis that she had loved before, but when things became a bit too serious, Vidette backed out. She let her fear get the best of her and ruined a perfectly amicable relationship, which she came to regret years later. And then Kaler came along, and Talan was no longer the apple of her eye. He had been pushed to the back of her mind, taking the role of best friend as her heart went out to the man she never expected to even get along with, let alone date. And now she just so happened to be pregnant with his child; she was still uncertain about how she really felt about that.
Viddy knew that she hadn't been the easiest person to live with as of late. Her hormones often got the best of her and she found herself snapping at Kaler on a regular basis over silly, nonsensical things. The other day, they were unpacking groceries and she caught Kaler placing the Thin Mint cookies in the cabinet when he knew that she liked them cold best. So, she went on a ten minute rampage about how he was incapable of doing anything and he obviously didn't know her very well if he couldn't remember to refrigerate the damn Thin Mints, which ultimately reduced her to a sobbing mess with her apologizing profusely like a lunatic. It was obvious that he was confused, and she could only hide her pregnancy for so long before he caught on and called her out on it. She had been lucky that he hadn't seen the pregnancy tests Hunter so dutifully bought for her, and her bump wasn't completely noticeable yet, but even that would be difficult to cover up soon. This whole process had her feeling constantly turned on and ready to go, so it was only a matter of time before Kalers' attention was diverted to her bare stomach in the middle of one of their rendezvous where he would notice how much fatter she had gotten. Currently, Vidette lay on her back with her hand over her firm stomach, eyes trained on the ceiling. Kaler was still sound asleep beside her, but Vid honestly couldn't say she was surprised. Last night had been...well, it had been a long night. A good night, but definitely the longest they had had in a very long time. Carefully, she slid out of bed and pulled on a pair of pajama bottoms and one of Kalers' t-shirts, the need to eat becoming a bit too much to handle. She padded into the kitchen, taking a moment to glance around and decide what it was that she was in the mood for before going into action, grabbing pots and pans and food from the refrigerator, pausing to stare at the Thin Mints before rejecting that idea and desiring a balanced breakfast instead. There was no doubt in her mind that a handful of cookies would be greatly appreciated by both her and the baby, but if there was one thing Vidette had learned from reading those baby books Hunter had bought her, it was that healthy was the way to go. And minty, chocolaty deliciousness was the farthest thing from healthy. Eggs, bacon, sausage (yes, she really needed both, don't argue with the pregnant girl), bagels, grapefruit, cantaloupe, pancakes. Whatever breakfast foods she could find, she was making. The counter-tops were littered with cooking supplies and ingredients, leaving little to no room to actually prepare any of the food. But everything just looked and sounded so delicious, she wasn't about to leave anything uneaten this morning. A pair of arms wrapped around her waist as she was just beginning her dissection of a grapefruit, lips pressed against her neck. A smile crept up onto Vidette's face as she glanced over her shoulder, her eyes meeting with those of her boyfriends. "'Morning sleepyhead. Had a long night?" she teased, turning her attention back to the task at hand. It wasn't often that she cooked breakfast for him, but she figured it was the least she could do after being such a brat the past couple of days. "The Thin Mints are still in there! I left them unscathed." Though she was beginning to really wish that she hadn't. Her stomach rumbled anxiously as she finished slicing, dropping all of the grapefruit remnants into a bowl with the cantaloupe and some banana. The feeling of his arms around her waist reminded her of their unborn child and her soon-to-be-bump, which had her spinning around in his arms, trying to mask the momentary terror that flashed in her eyes at the prospect of a bump having grown overnight, one that he could easily feel with his arms around her like that. But no such bump existed, and Vidette was just being paranoid. "I hope you're hungry!" Horrible save, but it would have to do.

[bg=030303][th]

[bg=030303] .. [bg=101010] [scrolly:h(400),w(280),sy] As his blue eyes took in all that Vidette had pulled out and covered the stove and counter tops with, Kaler was actually very surprised that he had all of that in his refrigerator. He normally wasn’t one that ate breakfast at all, seeing as he was rarely up that early in the morning after working late shifts at the bar, or having his own kind of fun drinking or spending his time with Vidette. He rarely ate breakfast, and when he was up that early he normally settled for something a little bit quicker that didn’t require the kind of motivation and thought that Kaler lacked in those early hours. PopTarts or some kind of cereal was as far as he usually got with it, and when he did have real breakfast food it normally wasn’t something that prepared himself but was a meal purchased down at the local diner. Hell, he didn’t remember ever buying all of this stuff, but with Vidette at his house all the time and the two of them doing their grocery shopping together Kaler wouldn’t be surprised if she were the one that was stocking his kitchen up so well. Before her and Peyton, Kaler’s house had had the bare minimum in it. Now it seemed he was fully equipped to prepare just about anything, as Viddy appeared to have enough out to make food to supply an entire breakfast buffet. What had struck her to make this food, he had no idea, but he wasn’t about to complain about it or questions her motives.
After all, he probably should have been more wary of her as he approached her, never really knowing what to expect from his girlfriend after these last few weeks of mood swings that were enough to give the young man whiplash. He still had no idea what was up with Vidette, and sometimes after she had taken yet another crying spell while apologizing over and over for the latest outburst it seemed that she was just as confused as Kaler was himself. He hated to feel like he was walking on eggshells around her, but sometimes he did just that trying to avoid crossing her and doing something that would set off that kind of reaction. There were moments when it was almost comical, Kaler luckily able to find humor in it all, but at the same time it was all just a big ball of confusion and frustration that he hoped would disappear eventually. And, he really hoped that she was in a good mood this morning and that he hadn’t just set himself up to get smacked, or threatened with that knife she was using to cut up the fruit. Kaler knew that he was safe when he saw her glance over her shoulder at him with that cute smile on her lips, her offering a teasing comment about their long night to which Kaler just smirked in response. If not for the banging and clanging that stirred him from his sleep, Kaler was pretty sure that he would still be in bed, sleeping off that long night. Then he had asked about the contents of the refrigerator, and if there was really anything left to be found in it since it sure as hell seemed like she had cleaned the thing out to make this huge breakfast. Viddy’s response made Kaler grin, seeing that she was indeed his Viddy this morning and that she was able to poke some fun at the weird, emotional Viddy that she sometimes became.
Kaler had thought hell’s fury had been brought down on him that afternoon when he had made the mistake of trying to put her damn Thin Mints in the cabinet rather than in the fridge. Kaler personally thought that Thin Mints were an insult to cookies everywhere and despised the things, so it wasn’t like he ate them and knew to put them in the fridge to chill. He knew Viddy preferred them that way, but it was something that had slipped his mind just for an instant, and he had caught all kinds of hell for that one, leaving him looking at Vidette, at the package of cookies in his hand, and then back to her with this bewildered expression. But at least it was all settled now, her cookies where she wanted them and Kaler doubted that he would ever make that mistake again. He had been about to make some smartass comment about said cookies, which might have been pressing his luck anyway, when Vidette suddenly spun around in his arms, causing Kaler to stand straight once again and silencing the words on his lips. “I hope you’re hungry!” He chuckled softly at quick spin she had done and how enthusiastic she seemed to be about this, this girl definitely knowing how to keep him on his toes even with something as simple as this moment was. “I’m starving,” he told her with that same grin on his lips before he leaned down and captured hers with his. Just one sweet kiss, followed by a second, and then a third. Even after the kind of night that they had shared, Kaler didn’t see a time when he would ever feel that he had enough of this woman. In that moment he could feel that want and desire staring to wash over him, but he quickly reminded himself that she had breakfast cooking and that this was not the best moment to start something else.
He pulled himself away from her, those icy blue eyes looking down over her petite frame covered by his t-shirt and thinking she looked good in it, but would ultimately look better without it. Kaler again pulled his mind away from that, letting go of Vidette and moving to the stove. “Okay, tell me what you want me to do.” Because this was entirely too much for one little person to try to prepare all on her lonesome; Kaler didn’t care if she did kind of cook/bake for a living. He waited for his instructions, and then took over pancake duty while she continued with what she was doing. Kaler actually really enjoyed cooking, and the two of them continued in an easy rhythm of things, it all coming together quite nicely. That is, until Vidette managed to pull one of her clumsy moments and slice her hand with the knife she had been using earlier, pulling Kaler away from the pancake griddle and to her side. He was immediately reaching for paper towels to wipe away blood and to put pressure on the cut to stop the bleeding, his eyes growing a little bit wider when he realized just how deep the injury was. “I’m going to have to put you in a bubble,” he told her, putting down one bloody towel and reaching for a new one. He literally could not stand to see his girl hurt, and unfortunately she was rather clumsy whenever he was around. “Right after we take care of this and I find a cigarette.” Because Kaler could take it just fine when he cut himself, or when most other people did, but just the idea of Vidette being hurt stressed him out to no end.
