So maybe going about and being the devious little thing that she was may not have been the best thing. She had tried to seduce her sisters boyfriend, which was whatever, but kissing Jem while she knew that his girlfriend was watching may have crossed the line. She had watched from a distance waiting to see what happened, and that was when she knew that she had succeeded. Evelyn Garland may be mean and full of malicious intent sometimes, but actually causing Jem pain had not been the goal. Yes she wanted him for herself, but getting into his girlfriend’s head had been easy. Doubt was easy to create, and then there was the fact that she just did what she wanted. Evie grabbed a strawberry and watched her plan fall into place, and that was when she saw tears in Shayne’s eyes and knew she had just broken his heart. Evelyn watched as Jem started to storm off, and that was when she followed him. She had not wanted to hurt him, even though she knew that she had. Contrary to popular belief, Evie did have a heart; well at least she did whenever it came to him. If there was one person in this world that she truly cared about it was him. James Hale always had that soft spot in her heart, and she knew that he was not going to be happy with her. That was whenever she had finally caught up with him outside the party of course, and grabbed his arm gently. Just enough to get him to stop. “Hey, are you okay?” So it was not her most brilliant way to open this conversation, and she also knew that he was going to be pissed. She was the one to be blames considering that she had kissed him; he had pushed her away, but it wasn’t her fault that his girlfriend didn’t trust him. That was entirely her stupid fault, but it was going to work for Evie if it killed her She would wait as long as she had to, but she was going to be there whenever he let out the anger that he undoubtably had for her. “It’s her loss Jem.” That was when he turned and she could tell this was not going to be pretty.

Jem honestly couldn’t believe that this was happening! He had thought that all the drama would be over after the wedding, but he had clearly been mistaken. He had never in a million years thought that it would be something between him and Shayne, though. Not too long ago they had seemed so rock solid. They had been unstoppable, unbreakable. Or so he had thought. But apparently he had been very, very wrong. Shayne didn’t trust him and she had turned on him so easily. He knew that he couldn’t be with someone who didn’t trust or believe in him, and that hurt more than he could let on. Right now his prime emotion was anger, but it was only there to hide the shattering pain that he was feeling over what had just happened. He and his sister seemed to share a number of things in common, and that included the way they handled heartbreak. Because Jem was doing exactly what his sister had been doing not too long ago. Granted things were better for her now, and Jem doubted he could ever be as bad off as she was, but his recent break-up did sting a great deal. It hurt him to know that everything he had thought his relationship with Shayne was was no longer true. It almost felt as if the whole thing had been a lie. Jem stormed out of the building, knowing that he couldn’t stay there when he was feeling like this. It would just ruin the party for the other girls, and Jem didn’t want that at all. There was only one he had a problem with at the moment. And that girl was the one that followed him out of the building. He felt her arm on his but it did nothing for him. He didn’t want to talk to her. He didn’t even look at her. “Hey, are you okay?” No he was not okay. He was not in any way okay, but he wasn’t about to tell her that. He didn’t want to tell her anything. “It’s her loss Jem.” He could feel his anger trying to spike but worked to keep it under control. He did turn to face her, though, ripping the masquerade mask off his face. “You know, Evie, you just can’t leave well enough alone.” His voice was low and bitter, dangerous. It was much worse than it would have been had he yelled, because it would be enough to tell her that he was close to snapping and that it would not be pretty if he did. “Why is it that you have to make everyone else around you so miserable? Is that you can’t stand to see others happy, or that you’re really that big of a bitch?” Jem had always had a soft spot for Evelyn, and before tonight he never would have dreamed of speaking to her like that. But that was gone now, and everyone was open game to James Hale’s anger.

Hurting James Hale had never been her goal, and of all the people in the world the only one she never would wish heartache on. Obviously whatever him and Shayne had had was something he had cared about. She had no idea that he would be heartbroken over a little relationship, but if she was going to doubt him about her well that was sad. Jem was a stand up guy and the only one that Evelyn would do anything for. Hurting him was the worst mistake that she could have made, and she knew the wrath that would be coming her way. This night had been going from devious plan to devious plan, and up until this moment she had been pleased with herself. That was until she had realized just how much pain she had caused him. That was why she had followed him out and tried to check on him, but the anger that was there was all her fault. She watched in her own shocked state as he ripped the mask that had been on his handsome face. Evie was mortified at how she had created this mess for him, and she knew that whatever he had to say she deserved. ”You know, Evie, you just can’t leave well enough alone.” She had deserved that one, because she did not. There were a lot of reasons for why she was the way she was, but his words were low and bitter, she knew this was all her fault. Evelyn Garland had never expected this to happen, and she had never expected to feel this way whenever he scolded her. ”Why is it that you have to make everyone else around you miserable? Is that why you can’t stand to see anyone else happy, or that you really are that much of a bitch?” The brunette stood there horrified at the words that he spoke to her. She knew that she deserved it, but it was like her heart was shattering. “You think I wanted to make you miserable? Of everyone in my life you think that I want to hurt you? James Hale, I never wanted to hurt you! And for you to call me a bitch, well I may deserve it, but you don’t get to talk to me like this.” Her voice was dangerously close to showing how angry and hurt she really was. This was something she had not wanted to do, especially arguing with him at her birthday party. “If Shayne is that dumb to think you would cheat on her with me, well she is a complete moron and isn’t worth your time. But I came out here to make sure you were okay, instead you treat me like everything is my fault, when it is clearly hers.”

“You think I wanted to make you miserable? Of everyone in my life you think that I want to hurt you? James Hale, I never wanted to hurt you! And for you to call me a bitch, well I may deserve it, but you don’t get to talk to me like this.” He should have probably felt bad for what he said to her, but he was so angry that he couldn’t do such a thing. He couldn’t be sorry for what he said or want to take it back. Because right now everything was falling apart around him. And he wasn’t naïve enough or stupid enough to think that she had nothing to do with any of this. He and Shayne hadn’t been having any problems until she had showed up again in town. It wasn’t just a coincidence that these things coincided with her arrival. “If Shayne is that dumb to think you would cheat on her with me, well she is a complete moron and isn’t worth your time. But I came out here to make sure you were okay, instead you treat me like everything is my fault, when it is clearly hers.” Jem clenched his jaw, trying to resist the urge to yell and rage at her. That would not help things, but he was so close to losing it that it was scary. “Don’t stand here and act like you didn’t have a hand in any of this!” His voice was slightly raised, but he was still able to keep it somewhat load, still keeping slight control. “You come back into town and suddenly everything that was good is now falling to pieces!” He clenched his fists at his side, knowing that he would never act on his anger at her, no matter how bad his anger was he would never do that. It went against everything he stood for. But God if she didn’t frustrate him to now end. “You can’t just waltz back into town and do these things and not expect it go badly!” He shook his head and glared at her, then turned on his heels to walk away, knowing that getting away from her was the best thing for the both of them. Otherwise he would do or say something he would really regret.

Evelyn Garland was that girl that did not think about anyone other than herself. She knew what she wanted and she went after it. The brunette held a grudge and until she felt vindicated she would not stop. It was who she was, and who she always was going to be. She had no reason to change who she was, at least not yet. She knew what she wanted, and Evie had a feeling that she may have burned the only bridge that could have gotten her to change. James Hale was the only person that she wanted in her life that meant anything. Of all the people that she could have hurt, Jem was not the one she had wanted to. Vidette absolutely, she would have been perfectly content in seeing her relationship crash and burn but this was different. “Don’t stand here and act like you didn’t have anything to do with this. You come back into town and suddenly everything that was good is now falling to pieces.” This was true, and she knew that. Perhaps this was the reason that the brunette had never come back. She had not wanted to hurt him, but he could do better than a girl that wasn’t able to trust him. It was actually humorous to her that his girlfriend did not trust him, because he was one of the only people that Evie knew could be trusted under any circumstance. “I am so sorry that my return has ruined a relationship that was doomed to begin with. Jem, she cracked at the first sign of pressure. So I don’t understand why you are pissed off at me whenever I am not the one who broke you.” So maybe her words were not the best, but she had a point and she knew it. Evie knew that Jem’s temper was not the best to toy with, but that was the fact. It was not her fault that his girlfriend didn’t trust him; it may be her fault that she facilitated the doubt and maybe caused it. It was something that was going to happen eventually, even if it was not her who did it. “You can’t waltz back into town and do these things and not expect it to go badly.” He certainly knew how to kick a girl when she was down, and he certainly knew the right buttons to push to make Evie realize this was not where she was supposed to be. She had no reason to be back in this town other than him, and he was making it obvious that he wanted nothing to do with her. He turned away from her and that completely set Evelyn off. They didn’t call her hurricane Evie for nothing. “You don’t get to walk away from me James Alexander Hale. You don’t get to be spiteful and indecent to me without me getting to defend myself. I know you don’t want anything to do with me, you made that very obvious! I am sorry that I waltzed back into this town, but it isn’t so hard to waltz back out. So if you tell me that you want me to go, then I will go but you had better think about that. Because you are the only person that I would give this option to.” Evie had a heart, and only one person was ever going to know that. He was standing in front of her, and she had just given him a very dangerous option. It was dangerous because Evelyn Garland was completely in love with him, and he may never know it.

“I am so sorry that my return has ruined a relationship that was doomed to begin with. Jem, she cracked at the first sign of pressure. So I don’t understand why you are pissed off at me whenever I am not the one who broke you.” Jem was typically one to listen to reason, although the fact that Evelyn Garland could say anything reasonable was quite laughable. Had he not been so angry at her and at Shayne and at just about everything else, he might not have reacted the way he did. But Jem wasn’t ready to hear any kind of reason or explanation, and especially not from her. “You know nothing about my relationship!” Which was relatively true. “You’ve been here, what? A month? You don’t know anything because you haven’t been here!” She could observe them and she had asked questions, but that didn’t mean she had any idea at all what his relationship with Shayne had been. “And my relationship wasn’t doomed until you decided to mess with it!” Jem would have never said that anything was doomed, and especially not when it was just starting out. He believed in giving everything a far shot, a fair chance. And he and Shayne had been so good and they were going so strong. That is until Evelyn had come back and started playing around with anything and everything she could get her hands on. He knew her and he knew what she was capable of, but she would have never thought that he would fall victim to devious way. He was so wrong about that.
He was ready to walk away from the situation. He needed to get away and let all of this out and to just… become himself again. Tomorrow he would be fine. But Evelyn wasn’t going to let him do that, and that was just making all of this worse. Because you are the only person that I would give this option to.” That was a dangerous thing to say when Jem was like this. He was only human, and as such he was prone to being irrational and mean, especially when he had been wronged. He turned and looked Evelyn straight in the eye, his green eyes dark with the emotions that were swimming around inside him. “I never want to see you again,” he said in a low, cold voice. In the moment, he honestly meant it, though he would probably come to regret it later. But Jem wasn’t thinking. He just wanted to get away from her.

Evelyn was completely mortified by what the man she loved was saying to her. Yes, everything was her fault, and she had only been her for a month. For that month she had not even left Stella’s home except to go see Jem. He was the whole reason that she had come back to the God forsaken piece of earth. Now here he was just breaking her heart and he would never even know. She knew what he was going to tell her even before he did. ”My relationship wasn’t doomed until you started messing with it.” Maybe he was right, maybe she was wrong to think that Shayne was not completely in it. It had not been long for Evie to work into her head, and the sad part was that she had not even really worked things into her head. It was something that just kind of happened, though the brunette was intent on breaking this relationship up. She had not wanted to hurt Jem though. “Who said I decided to meddle in anything?! Maybe she never trusted you. Think about that.” That was when she had given him the option. If he wanted her to go, she would. No matter how much it hurt her to do so, she would. Evie knew that he was going to hurt her, but who could really blame him? Jem blamed Evie for what happened, and she knew that. She just hadn’t really expected him to say anything. She figured he would just walk away, but she had been wrong. His green eyes were dark and she knew what was coming as soon as his eyes met her dark ones, his voice was cold and dark. “I never want to see you again.” He would never know how much this was going to hurt her, but Evie hid her hurt well. Instead of letting the tears that were ready to break out, her dark eyes fueled with anger. “Fine, consider me gone. Happy fucking birthday to me. Thank you, Jem.” She knew this was wrong, but she kissed him. She did not care if he wanted her to or not, she was going to show him that there was something here between them, and soon as she broke that kiss she turned and bolted to her car. As she turned from him, three little words slipped from her mouth and Evie could care less if he heard them or not. "I love you.". Then she was gone, she was going back to Stella’s house and she would figure out what to do from there.
