Welcome to Charleston, South Carolina. It’s your
typical, everyone knows everyone sort of place. Your
parents are always telling stories about how back in
the day they never locked their doors and everyone
looked out for each other. It’s not so different now, not
really. Sure the crime rate has gone up a smidge,
rebellious teenagers with nothing better to do than
vandalize bill boards and party at the old rock quarry,
and that new Walmart opening up in the next town over
hasn’t helped local commerce much. Over all things are
pretty slow -- normal for lack of a better term -- just the
way they like it.

One thing about these towns though, the people that
live there are pretty damn good at keeping secrets,
ignoring that big ole pink elephant sitting in the
corner condemning every one of them with its stare.
People know things, things they’re not telling because
some of it is dark enough to tear their happy little
community apart at the seams. No one needs to voice
aloud that the mayor is having an affair with his
daughter’s boyfriend or that the high school English
teacher is addicted to cocaine. Who cares that the
sheriff’s deputy is peddling confiscated drugs to kids
or that the local doctor's wife ran away with his
brother? What would telling any of this accomplish?
