Hailey Walker could go on for hours about how much she hated it here. Okay, so maybe hate was too strong of a word, but she had a serious dislike for this place. Arietta, Maine. It was a small, know nothing town in the middle god freaking nowhere. The only plus side that Hailey could even come close to finding in this place was the fact that it was along the coast and there was a beach. Other than that, she saw very few upsides. She knew that her two horses, Zeus and Isis, loved it here a lot more. Zeus, her bay Hanoverian, loved the open space and fields where he was currently boarded. Isis, her white Quarter Horse mare, seemed to just like the place better in general. They definitely had more space here, and there was definitely a lot more places for her to ride. The air was cleaner and everything was a lot quieter, but Hailey couldn’t keep herself from disliking this place. That was probably because she had had no choice in coming here. She had been forced to leave everything behind in New York. Her life, her friends, the house she had grown up in, and it was all because of her twin sister, Hadley, and her wild ways. Hadley just had to be a rebel and do everything that was bad for her. She didn’t think about anyone but herself, and Hailey was definitely angry at her for this. She was mad that just because her parents couldn’t tame her sister that she had to change her life and move. It wasn’t fair, and Hailey was having a hard time letting this go and just moving on and trying to enjoy the town she was stuck in.
That afternoon, things hadn’t been all that great at the house. Hadley had once again done something her parents didn’t like and they had called her on it, yelling and threatening punishments that Hailey knew would never stick because Hadley would always find a way around them. She had grown tired of it, and so she had grabbed her puppy, Chloe, and left the house. As mad as Hailey was at her sister in the moment, the two of them were pretty close. Hailey would do anything for her sister, which meant that Hadley took advantage of her quite often. She sometimes even wondered if her sister even appreciated what it was that she did for her. Probably not. But Hailey did love her sister, and more than anything she wished that she would just give up all the things she did and would settle herself down. She didn’t have to rebel against [everything/i], though that was exactly what Hadley seemed hell bent on doing. She sighed, tugging on the leash of her pup as she tried to go and greet another dog passing down the street. There were plenty of places the young girl could go in Arietta. It was a small town, but there were quite a few things to do. None of those things seemed all that appealing to Hailey at the moment. She thought about maybe going to ride Zeus and Isis, but dismissed the idea as soon as it came to her because she would have to go home to get her riding boots, as she had worn them home the last time she was at the barn. Besides, she didn’t even think a ride with either horse could cheer her up at this point. Not even Chloe could do much to cheer her up anymore.
The coonhound puppy had been a gift from her parents, an “I’m sorry” present for having to move. It had made up for things for a little while, but now she was starting to miss home again. She did love her mischievous little puppy, though, and couldn’t help but laugh when she stole Hadley’s shoes and chewed them up. It was funny that she left Hailey’s alone but went after everyone else’s. It made Hailey love the pup even more. As she wandered the streets, Hailey somehow found herself at the beach. It was winter and chilly outside, so there weren’t really that many people out on the beach. It seemed like a good idea, so Hailey stopped and took her tennis shoes and socks off, not wanting to get sand in them because she knew it would be extremely unpleasant to walk back home if she did. Chloe loved the sand. She parked excitedly, her floppy ears flapping in the air as she jumped excitedly. Hailey felt herself smile and laugh at the puppy’s enthusiasm. Hailey walked in the sand for a while, but then decided to sit. She debated about letting Chloe off her leash, as she still didn’t always like to listen, but the puppy got antsy and was getting sand all over her, so she decided to go ahead and do it. If Chloe started to run too far she would just have to chase her down. That was easier said than done, even for a girl like Hailey who ran cross country and track for her school. It would make things more exciting, though. Give her something to do.
Chloe took off immediately, barking excitedly and chasing anything and everything that came close enough. She found the water, but then ran away and stayed out of it when she realized how cold it was. Hailey had to yell at her twice, but for the most part the pup stayed within an acceptable distance. And she was deciding to listen, so that was an upside. Hailey could feel herself relax the longer she sat there, all the stress from earlier slipping out of her body and leaving her feeling better. So maybe from now on this was going to have to be where she went when things got difficult at home or, well, just difficult in general. It was very peaceful there with no one around. She actually kind of liked it. Who knew, maybe given time she might actually not hate it here. That was going to take a great deal of time, though. A lot of time.

arietta wasn't exactly this amazing, fun filled town but for lucas parker, he didn't need fun lying around since he had a tendency to make his own and occasionally paint the town red every now and again. growing up in new york, lucas expected big city life and not the small town his mom and him relocated to when he was nine. he was comfortable with bright lights, tons of traffic, and staying up all night - exactly what new york had to offer. arietta, on the other hand, had nothing as adrenline pumping as that. besides easy, hot girls, arietta was mainly boring. for lucas, moving here at age nine wasn't exactly his chance to start a new life, as his mom put it, it just set him on the wrong side of the tracks. his anger towards his dad was released through playing a game of grand theft auto with his buddies or rubbing some guy's girlfriend the wrong way, which lead to a bar fight and ended with a ride home in the back of a cop car or even a night in the big house from time to time. the twenty-one year old wasn't exactly winner of role model of the year! luke wasn't all that bad - he did graduate high school and that was probably his only highest achievement that his mother could be proud of, of course overlooking the fact that he could easily out number his boys in a 'who could sleep with the most girls' contest. graduating high school was already a miracle and a half, no need to push it by going to college too, so luke opted out on that one! although he was a smart kid, he often didn't show it and had this front that people were used to. he was the playboy type - he'd sleep with you until he got tired of you but he never had any commited relationships. he got girls as easy as he got a night or two in jail - piece of cake, really. it was typical for luke to be the player, almost expected, and it was no surprise he partied every night that ended in y. living on his own had advantages - there was no more sneaking girls around but it definitely got lonely.
when loneliness occured though, it was usually time for lucas to call up the red head he met at the bar last week or even a few of his frequent one night stands. hadley was one girl that was always someone he turned to for some fun. although lucas got the rap for being a jackass, a player, the next 'john tucker must die', he did have back up to his cocky attitude. lucas could easily be taken as a threat - he was extremely good looking and had girls fawning all over him. it was in middle school when girls started taking a liking for him. he was on the baseball team and started hanging out with the right crowd - the jocks who were followed by cheerleaders. the next minute he went from being the new kid around town to the player in a matter of seconds. ever since then, it was hard to disagree that lucas didn't have game. if you call having girls over at your place every night not having game, then he definitely sucked at game. this afternoon wasn't looking booked and luke figured he could get a run on the beach in before he ventured out into arietta to find a girl or two or play basketball down at the court with his boys. exiting his lake view house, luke shut the door behind him before beginning a slight jog down the driveway and onto the pavement in the direction of the beach. popping in his earphones, luke was looking to clear his head away from girls and focus on nothing but putting one foot in front of the other faster and faster. there was amy, hadley, izzy and many other that filled his list of girls. the number of girls couldn't easily be counted on two hands either. as soon as his feet hit the beach after a fifteen minute jog, luke slowed down his pace as he began catching his breath for a few seconds before starting back up again.
luke's focused thoughts went straight out the window when he caught sight of a group of girls laying out on the beach after nodding his head towards them and giving them a slight wave, he bit his bottom lip and continued running. he made a mental note to himself to go back after his jog later and get each of their numbers, maybe even chill with them for a bit. he counted to himself - it was his personal rule, give it ten seconds after seeing a girl before looking over your shoulder back at her to show her your interested. at ten, luke bit his bottom lip and glanced over his shoulders. between the music blasting directly in his ears and his focus being on the girls laying out on the sand, their attention focused on him just as much as his was focused on theirs, he failed to notice to isolated body sitting on the beach. instantly, luke's body hit the sand after his feet began going faster than his body as the boy crashed ontop of another body. practically eating sand, luke shook his head in disappointment. he just blew his chance at getting all those girls and for who, someone who wasn't paying any attention to jogging bodies on the beach? it was common enough and almost everyone knew to look out for pedestrians. he glanced underneath his body to see the stranger who he ran into. instantly, hadley walker rushed into his mind and he couldn't help but grin. "how's it going?" he gave a confidant, smooth smile before raising his eyebrows in a suggestive way after feeling her hand push on his chest. it wasn't his favorite walker girl of all time, but this one would have to do for now and luke was willing to take it as a sign rather than just an accident caused on his behalf.

And just like that the peace and relaxation she had found here on this beach was gone. And all by some bigheaded jerk who was intent to show off for a group of pretty girls. That was just great. Wonderful. Lovely. Hailey wasn’t typically one to be bitter or angry over the little things, but there were just some people who rubbed her the wrong way. There were some people that she couldn’t stand the thought of, let along their presence. And when they did something to really aggravate her? Well, that was just not cool in the slightest. There was also the fact that she had already been frustrated today. Her family’s issues would drive anyone crazy, and as her twin sister was the cause of them all, Hailey wasn’t one to really talk about such things. She was quite angry with her sister for being the cause of their move. She was bitter over it, and though she tried desperately to hide it and be okay with everything. But she just… wasn’t. She wasn’t happy that she was here in Maine and not in her home in New York. She missed her city and her friends and the life that she had had for years. She had been forced to come here because of her sister’s insane behavior. Her parents thought that moving to a small town would allow them to reign in her sister, give them a better chance at controlling her and making her a model citizen of sorts. That was a laugh. If anything, Hailey would have to say that it made her sister even more rebellious and content to do whatever she very well pleased. She was set to prove that nothing anyone did would change her, and she really didn’t care who she affected in the process. As it was, that person was almost always Hailey. And it wasn’t in a good way either.
And now here was this guy, falling on top of her because he was too full of himself to look where he was going. It was people like that that irritated Hailey the most. Back home it had been the rich kids, the ones with family names that mattered and silver spoons in their mouths. They thought they were better because they had money and treated everyone else like crap. Hailey was a brilliant girl, and her intelligence had gotten her a scholarship to one of the best private schools in New York. Schools like that were full of trust fund babies who had superiority complexes. They constantly went after those they felt were weaker, and shouldn’t be there because they weren’t good enough. Hailey was one of them. She was tough enough, though, that people generally left her alone. She had made some friends, formed a group, and everything had been really great. Here there were some rich and wealthy families, but for the most part you just found jerks. Vain and egotistical boys who thought they were the best thing to ever grace your presence, and that you should enjoy it while it lasted. At those people, Hailey just rolled her eyes and walked away. Jerks, players, the whole lot of them Hailey avoided. Unfortunately, it seemed that she couldn’t get away from all of them, as this guy was now here. He only hope could be that he would leave and she could get back to her attempt to relax, which now felt shattered.
Hailey was thrown backwards into the sand when the male found himself tripping over her. It was enough to knock some of the air from her lungs. Not only that, but he was heavy, and it was a dead weight on top of her. It was only when he moved that she felt her ability to breathe return. He glanced down at her, and Hailey could already tell what was coming before the words left his mouth. "How's it going?" The confidant smile on his lips made her want to gag and it took everything in her not to roll her eyes. She brought her hands up and pushed against his chest with all the force she could muster, catching the suggestive gleam in his eye. Yeah, that was going to happen. “Oh God,” she said with disgust. “Get off of me!” She pushed him again and succeeded in getting her body out from under his. But because of his little fall she was now covered completely in sand, which did not improve her mood in the slightest. “Why don’t you watch where you’re going next time,” she said angrily, brushing the sand off of her body and glaring at him. His self confidence and arrogance practically radiated from him. The way he looked at, the very manner in which he held himself, it was all very familiar to the young girl, and she wanted no part of it. Unfortunately, that didn’t look to be something that was going to happen. Just her luck. “Well,” she said, clearly annoyed. “You can go now. I’m sure there are plenty of other people further down who might actually enjoy your tripping over them.” She gave him a look that said they were clearly done here and that he should leave so she could go back to her day. That would be what she preferred, anyway.

lucas wasn't expecting anything he was recieving from the girl as he was being pushed off her tiny body. she was good looking and up until she started talking, lucas actually considered adding her to his endless list of girls. this was one of the first girls - and possibly the only - that looked at him with disgust and she was definitely not mesmerized by him whatsoever. brushing the sand off his clothes, the boy reached his hand out the girl before watching her smack it away angrily. "i'm sorry. i was di-distracted." he said unapologetically as he rolled his eyes and folded his arms across his chest. the twenty-one year old looked like a bad student being scolded by the yelling teacher as all eyes were on him. after glancing over his shoulders to see the group of girls watching him, lucas bit his bottom lip and looked back at the brunette. if anything, lucas was hoping to run into a girl who actually cared to talk to him and not one to just shake him off. but there went his luck, he was now being scolded at by this girl who thought she was obviously too good for him and she wasn't liking his gesture one bit. lucas was never good at figuring out people but he assumed it wasn't him she was mad at - who came to the beach alone unless you were jogging like himself, who was planning to leave with someone anyways. her eyes didn't even meet his but instead focused on the dog prancing nearby. lucas rubbed the back of his neck slightly - in high school, some friends of his made up signals and rubbing the back of your neck meant 'whack job, help me.' if only he had someone to save him now! he could have walked away, but it wasn't that easy. he was drawn to the girl. "your the twin right?" lucas decided to ignore the girl's hostility and make himself comfortable as he took a seat in the sand next to the stranger. "i'm lucas parker." he shoved his hand over towards the girl and watched as she looked at it with disgust.
he chuckled a bit to himself at her expression as he glanced over at the group of girls once more. he considered leaving this girl for a moment to join the others, but that thought quickly disappeared as soon as it came. by now any other guy would have given up but this was just the charm that was lucas parker. his plan was to work the girl until she was like putty in his hands, then the rest would be a piece of cake and in the end, lucas would be happy and she would be just another girl. but the problem was she wasn't just another girl. already she had proven that theory wrong by her acts of disgust and annoyance. "i feel bad, i should have been paying attention but accidents happen." he paused, careful on his next choice of words. "i'd love to take you out for coffee or something to make it up to you. my treat!" lucas was like a fisherman trying to reel in his bait, the bait being the walker twin before him. hadley was easier, amy was the easiest, and although izzy liked to give him a challenge every now and again, she was the toughest to get to. this was a challenge lucas was never introduced to before and even if it would take some trying, lucas was willing to win the girl over - at least by the end of this conversation. at this point the boy wasn't sure what he needed to do to make the girl transform into the rest. she wasn't willing to get in his pants right then and there, she wouldn't even look at him when she spoke, and she wasn't sitting very close to him - she had moved away when he tried sitting near her, too. lucas made up his mind and decided to stay as long as he could. it was like a staring contest to see who would blink first. he, of course, wasn't going to be forward with her until she cracked first. she'd eventually have to melt! lucas leaned back into the sand and placed his hands behind his head. he smirked to himself as a million dirty comebacks floated into his head but he opted out on saying anything and let the waves crashing ashore cause noise.
"i know we just met and all, but you'd be down for a threesome right?" he closed his eyes to shield the sunlight away as he continued to lay on the warm sand. "you, me, had-" before he could finish his sentence, sand was being tossed in his face and right in his mouth before he heard the girl's anger shoot skyward as she began to yell once more. sitting straight up, lucas leaned over spitting the sand out and feeling the gritty particles grinding against his teeth as he raced to spit the dirty sand out of his mouth. brushing it off his face and squinting his eyes to prevent any sand from getting inside, lucas turned towards the walker twin. "what the fuck was that for?" he shrugged his shoulder and witnessed the anger in the girl's face. all she had to do was say no, no need to drown him with sand. what was she two? then again, she was different from the rest and no girl had ever dared to do anything like that to lucas. she would be the first. he allowed a sigh to escape his lips as he continued spitting out the bits of sand. lucas was in deep with this girl and if he wasn't already, time would certainly make sure he would be on the girls' shit list by the end of the day. she was definitely not like hadley and he now wanted to kick himself in the ass for thinking she would be. hadley was already too much for him to handle, there was no way in hell there would be an exact replica of her. laughter could be heard coming from behind him and without even looking he knew it was the group of girls he was trying to bang earlier. he watched the twin rise to her feet and stare down at him, pointing her finger and shouting at him.

Hailey was not pleased that this guy was still standing here, and she didn’t give a damn about his excuses either. He said he was sorry, that he was distracted, but Hailey didn’t believe him for a second. She’d seen his type one too many times, she knew what to expect. Apologies weren’t one of them. "Your the twin right?" He took a seat down beside her and Hailey had to resist the urge to groan in annoyance. She had told him to leave, but it seemed that he was more intent to stay and pester her. She scooted away from him, having no desire to be as close to him as he made himself. She would honestly prefer it if he were heading in the opposite direction down the beach to bother someone else. Unfortunately, he wasn’t going to do that, and she was now the one to be graced with his company. Wonderful. She didn’t look at him, instead she stared at her puppy, who was still running not too far off. It was definitely better than looking at him. She didn’t answer him though, intent to say silent and ignore him until he went away. Don’t engage and maybe the jerk will go away. That was Hailey’s way of dealing with it. However, this one seemed more persistent then the norm. He seemed like the type to be relentless and to never go away. How lucky for Hailey. "I'm Lucas Parker." From the corner of her eye, Hailey could see that he had thrust his hand in her direction. She rolled her eyes, ignoring it, not wanting to touch him and certainly not caring what his name was. She just wanted him to go away.
Hailey played with the ring on her left hand, an act that was done without thinking. Hailey constantly did it, especially when she was bored or just wanted to do something with her hands. In this moment it was a little bit of both. Then he spoke again, clearly not taking the hint or just choosing to ignore it. She had thought her silence would send him away. Apparently not. "I feel bad, I should have been paying attention but accidents happen." Yeah, accidents did happen, but Hailey wasn’t really in the forgiving mood right now. Not only that, but she was annoyed, and that made her less inclined to be nice. He wasn’t done, though. "I'd love to take you out for coffee or something to make it up to you. My treat!" Hailey rolled her eyes. There was no way that that was going to happy. She was not going to go get coffee or anything with him. She wasn’t going to encourage his behavior. Instead, she was making it very clear to him from the start that she did not want anything to do with him, though this guy was clearly slow on taking a hint. Either that or he was just stubborn. Which would just be Hailey’s luck. Of course she would get stuck with the jerk that was too stubborn or full of himself to take no for an answer. She seriously wondered if there was going to be anything she could do to get him to go away. But Hailey could be stubborn too, and she was fairly certain that she could be more stubborn then this guy. She had spent her life growing up with Hadley, hadn’t she? She turned to look at him, her answer clear in her facial expression before she ever even spoke the words. “That’s not going to happen.” Not at all. “But if you really wanted to make it up to me, you would go away.” And with that she turned her attention back to her little puppy, trying to make that the last word. She would love it if he would just stand up right then and there and leave her. No such luck. Instead he laid down in the sand beside her, like he was more intent than before to prove that he wasn’t going anywhere.
But it got much worse. "I know we just met and all, but you'd be down for a threesome right?" Hailey couldn’t believe he had just said that. After all of her “go aways” and “I want nothing to do with yous” he was asking her that? Seriously. Hailey had to work harder than ever to keep her jaw from dropping at that. "You, me, Had-" She turned and glared at him, and before he could say the last name, the one she knew was coming before he could even get the whole thing out, she picked up one of her shoes and hit him with it. Now, Hailey was typically a girl who was really non-violent. She knew self-defense and could easily take out a guy twice her size long enough to get away, but she had always been more of a lover than a fighter. She didn’t believe violence ever solved anything, and that it only caused more problems. She would have preferred to use words instead of other physical means, but this guy didn’t get it, and really, Hailey hadn’t even thought about it before she did it. She just wanted him to shut up! He was clearly surprised and when he finally recovered, as it seemed some sand from her shoe had hit him in the face, all she could do was glare at him. "What the fuck was that for?" She didn’t care in the slightest for his language, either. She picked her other shoe up from the sand and Chloe’s leash, tucking them under her arm as she stood from the sand. If he wasn’t going to go away, then she was going to leave. She’d rather have her family’s fighting than this jackass any day. She turned to glare down at him once she was on her feet, holding up her left hand so he could see the tiny silver band on her ring finger. “You see this? ‘True love waits.’ Meaning my pants are a place you are never going to be. Hadley’s the closest you’ll ever get, so why don’t you go find her and leave me alone!?” She turned and stalked off in the opposite direction. She called Chloe and the pup ran towards her. She picked her up and continued on her away down the beach.
Hailey’s purity ring was something that she had gotten a lot of crap for, mostly from Hadley. The whole concept of waiting to have sex until you were married seemed to be an unknown concept to everyone. Especially to Hadley as she gave it away to anyone that looked at her. And this guy clearly didn’t understand it. But Hailey believed in it and she lived by it. She had bought the ring in middle school, deciding then and there that that was the way she wanted things to be. She had had more than one relationship in her life end because guys didn’t respect her choice and tried to pressure her. Hailey didn’t put up with it, though, and she was completely clear about how things were going to go before they happened. She was hoping that this would push this guy away, make him give up hope and just move on. She doubted it, but it was worth hoping for. She didn’t look over her shoulder to see if he was following her, though, on the off chance that he had actually stayed put. She didn’t want to give him the wrong idea or anything. So instead she continued on her trek down the beach, bracing herself for the chance of his reappearance. She wasn’t even all that sure where she was going, but Arietta wasn’t all that big, so she figured she would be able to find her way eventually. It didn’t really concern her, and if it got her away from Lucas, then she was okay with being lost.

from the first few minutes of interacting with hailey, lucas knew the only direction this could head was south and it seemed to be getting worse by the minute. his chances weren't looking so good as the minutes passed and each time he opened his mouth, words came out that seemed to offend her. this was something that never happened to the boy and he was horribly confused at the moment. was she just having an all around bad day? that must be it, because it was ridiculous if she was acting this way for no reason and completely pushing the boy away just because. none of this was settling well with either of them - he wanted her attitude to change and she didn't seem to mind if he jumped off a bridge in the next few seconds, which was likely since she was making him crazier by the minute. it was one thing to ignore the rare apology that he said, but it was another to ignore his offer. he was positive hadley would be down for it, anyways. then again these two couldn't be more different by the looks of it and he wasn't quite sure of anything anymore. inviting her to coffee was the least he could do and although it wasn't the coffee he was interested in, that was just step one of getting her right where he wanted her. he could tell she was like hadley in some weird way. they shared that same feisty attitude, he thought. lucas was well aware hailey wanted nothing to do with him, but he was up for the chase and beyond that, he guessed she was just playing hard to get. it was typical of girls and he knew how to play his cards right but each move he was throwing down, hailey seemed to come back with more anger. he of course mistakened that anger for the thrill of the chase. he assumed the more he pushed and the more angry she got, the more she wanted him to chase after her. obviously he was wrong though and he just wasn't getting that. it was one thing to be a douche and leave but lucas was being a douche and sticking around the brunette against her wishes.her comment about leaving would be better made him chuckle. it was a typical girl thing - they said one thing but meant another and it was a total test. lucas was intending on passing her test but really, he was missing the whole point. she didn't want anything to do with him and she truly wanted him to disappear.
poor lucas overlooked that and mistakened it for more than that. from day one lucas had been the kind of guy that hit and quit it, only a few stuck around after that though. in high school, he had a bad reputation and spending a few nights in the slammer didn't help either. there was that night of grand theft auto and then drift racing through arietta and maybe a few bar fights here and there. when it came to drugs lucas was smart enough not to get caught or carry it around long enough. when he had it, he used it as fast as he could to get rid of the evidence and not be suspected of any foul play. lucas a big time player and any girl that got involved with him expected his actions. if hailey knew anything else about him, he was certain that would be the end of that. she didn't seem like the type to roll with his crowd or even be caught dead with him or hadley's type. she seemed too innocent for her own good and lucas was beginning to find that attractive at the moment. the sand began to sting his eyes a bit as he squinted, seeing the weapon of choice her shoe in her hand, lucas opened his mouth and tried to get all the sand out from grinding inbetween his teeth and sticking to his tounge. it wasn't working very well and lucas was now hunched over trying to cough it all out but almost gagging instead. it was probably amusing to watch, but lucas wasn't laughing and hailey was now standing over him yelling before dramatically stomping away from the scene. lucas heard her words and saw the ring and he instantly felt more low than he ever had in his entire life. sure, he could wander off and find hadley but now he wasn't interested in that twin but instead the one that he just tossed sand in his face and made an unforgettable exit. there was a first for everything and lucas had encountered his first public humilation. he didn't understand. how could a girl who looked like that wear a ring that stood for that? it was all beginning to hurt his head but that didn't stop him from becoming more curious either. that's what she wanted to live by and be known for? if that was her way of trying to make him leave it wasn't working. she had most morals that the rest of the girl population in arietta lacked and not all the girls needed to be the same.
since hailey was different, that attracted him even more and he was beginning to forget about getting in her pants. unlike hailey, other girls were throwing themselves at him and willing to whatever just to grab his attention. it was a sick game of the opposite sexes and lucas knew how to play it well. he had always been the guy to get girls wherever he went and although he lacked the respect for them, he was far more advanced than the rest and knew how to win girls over with his....charm, if that's what you could call it. hailey was the only one who hadn't seemed to be hooked thus far. lucas watched her walk off and for a moment he considered going the opposite way just to please her, but then he found himself rising from his position on the sand and chasing after her. again, there was a first for everything and the girls usually did the chasing after him. keeping a steady jog, lucas eventually was in enough distance from her where she could hear his light footsteps on the sand. "hey," he reached out to grab her elbow, "wait a minute." his tone didn't have that jerk-ish vibe to it any longer and it actually sounded a bit genuine. "your just going to leave?" hailey didn't stop and continued to walk which left him following after her. she had pulled away from him and turned her head as she tried to tune him out, but that didn't stop lucas from babbling like an idiot. "hailey," she continued to walk and he continued to follow as he let a soft sigh escape from his lips. he rubbed the back of his neck with his hand and stared down at the sand beneath his feet with each step he took. he was so confused and he had practically dug himself his own grave with hailey ready to bury him inside with each passing second. "i don't think we started off on the right foot." he shoved his hands in his pockets and clenched his jaw. it was the honest truth, he looked like an asshole and although he could definitely be one, that's not the kind of impression he wanted to leave with someone he was truly interested in getting to know past a first name basis. "can we start over?" talking to hailey was like talking to a brick wall; he was getting no response but continued talking anyways. lucas joined her side with a few bigger strides as he looked over at her and then at the puppy before his gaze rested only on her. "no chance in hell, right? alright. i guess i deserve that." lucas didn't want to let this all go that easily and since this all started off pretty bad, he was willing to make it better if she would ever give him the time of day.

"Hey." He reached out to grab her elbow, but she jerked out of his grip and continued to walk away from him. "Wait a minute." No. Way. In. Hell. She continued to walk along the length of the beach, stalking away from him to the best of her ability but he was, unfortunately, keeping up with her. Why couldn’t he just go away? Why couldn’t he just leave her alone? This was seriously getting ridiculous. Hailey had met persistent people in her life, but this guy definitely took the cake. He just seemed to refuse to take no for an answer. Hailey honestly didn’t know if she’d ever be able to shake him at the rate they were going. "You’re just going to leave?" That was the general idea. “Yes!” she shouted, not stopping for a moment in her escape. Chloe squirmed in her arms, not liking the tone her owner was using, but Hailey clung to her, knowing it would be entirely too slow if she let her down to run on her own. She hadn’t quite gotten the hang of her long legs yet, and when she ran she tended to trip a lot. No, carrying her was much better. Hopefully they could succeed in getting away, but right now the chances of it happening were not working in her favor. Hailey was annoyed and she was frustrated, and by this point she would have thankfully been back in her house with her parents and sister yelling at each other. It would be a relief compared to this. "Hailey." She ignored him. "I don't think we started off on the right foot." Ya think? She risked a glance at him, her blue eyes narrowed. “No? Really? Falling on me and then inviting me along for a threesome isn’t the right foot for you?” The sarcasm in her voice was very evident. If he missed it he really was thick.
Hailey was not one that took being insulted lightly. She confronted it with aggression and anger, two traits that weren’t always common in the young brunette. She really was a nice girl. She was very sweet and compassionate and there really wasn’t much about her that was mean, but after all the years of school that she had been she had gotten a streak of fighting back. When things went wrong, you could either fight back or let everyone walk all over you. Hailey had just gotten tired of being stepped on, though never in the literal sense until now. This guy had just assumed that she would be like her crazy sister. But she wasn’t. She and Hadley couldn’t have been more different. If anyone spent enough time around them they would find that the two girls fought more than they actually got along. They were just too different. But Hailey did care about her sister, and despite how angry she got at her, she would always be there for her. The two were close, even if they didn’t always show it, and Hadley was without a doubt her best friend. A best friend that often drove Hailey to crazy thoughts and insanity. "Can we start over?" Clearly not. Had she not made that completely clear? "No chance in hell, right? Alright. I guess I deserve that." Hailey rolled her eyes. “Well what’d ya know? He finally gets one right!” She glared at him and she finally came across a place where she could exit the beach. She had no idea where she was, but she would find her way around at some point and get back home. She started to walk that way, but then stopped and turned to face him, finally. “This ends here. You follow me and I swear to God I will hurt you.” She was deadly serious about it too. Hailey could defend herself, and if this guy decided to follow her, he was soon going to learn that. She turned on her heels and stalked away, stopping briefly to wipe off her feet and replace her shoes. She reattached Chloe’s leash and then walked away to try and find her way home.
