the big screens the plastic made dreams say you don't want it ,
Charlie Gray shut down her computer and pushed her chair away from the desk. So now Lucas was coming over for dinner, which meant more food would have to be made. However, she had forced him into helping her with it, so there was a plus. And it was sure to be interesting, as most things with the two of them were. Lucas and Charlie had known each other for what seemed like forever. She had met Luke at that age when boys still had cooties, but the two of them had bonded instantly and had been attached at the hip ever since. He was her best guy friend, and he had been that way ever since Jacob had left town. Those two relationships were completely different in just about every way imaginable, though, and it would be extremely unreasonable to try and compare them. Lucas had always been like a brother to her, he was practically a part of her family in every way other than blood. Her parents absolutely adored him and had often joked that they thought they had picked up the wrong kid at the hospital. It was always in good fun, though. But Lucas and her were very close, and they had a way of making them extremely fun when there was nothing around to do. Charlie knew that if ever there was a time she was bored out of her mind, all she’d have to do was call him up and things would instantly be better. They just worked like that. It was why the two of them held keys to the others house, and often dropped in to surprise the other with no warning. It was something that they had come to expect from the other, though Charlie still managed to scare the shit out of him sometimes.
Charlie headed into the kitchen to get ready for their dinner preparations, making sure there was a fire extinguisher on hand because, well, you never knew when it came to them. Charlie was shifting through her cabinets for things when she happened to glance at the table and noticed that the papers and bridal magazines were still scattered across the table from where Miranda James had been over earlier. Charlie was so excited for her friend, and also pretty thrilled to be the maid of honor in the wedding, always having wanted to play such a role, but never having any friends get married. It was a pretty crazy concept for Charlie as she had never really thought of that kind of thing for herself. Of course, she hadn’t really had that kind of relationship in a good while. But she was thrilled for Randi and Jared Trent, both of whom she had known for entirely too long. That was the thing with small towns like this one, though. You pretty much grew up with everyone, and all the families knew each other well. Most of the people Charlie knew she had known her entire life, had seen them grow up with her and watched them got through all those awkward phases in life. But they were pretty great people, and so she figured she couldn’t complain about such things. While she was thinking on it, Charlie walked over and started piling all the magazines and junk into a pile so she could stick them somewhere for when Randi came over the next day. She couldn’t remember why it was that she had ever left them there, though, because she didn’t usually.
It was as she was piling them up that she heard her front door open and looked up to see her friend coming into the kitchen. She grinned when she saw him and then continued with her clearing of the table. “God, what did you do, break the sound barrier to get here?” She was teasing, of course. The town of Arietta wasn’t all that big, so it didn’t usually take anyone long to get anywhere. Unless you wanted to find some sort of civilization or city. That would take you a while. “Randi left all her wedding crap over here,” she explained as she gathered up the last magazine. “I’m her maid of honor and so important,” she laughed, then left the kitchen to find somewhere to throw the items before she returned to the kitchen. As soon as she was back in she was rummaging for the rest of what she had been looking for before being distracted by Randi’s mess. “Start boiling water, love. That usually takes a while.” And of course, there was Charlie barking out orders. But that was just how she was. She had a very demanding and strong personality. She could be a slave driver when it came to her work, and sometimes that drifted into her everyday life and even into a task as simple as making spaghetti. Such a thing should not surprise Lucas, though, whom had known her forever and was very aware of how demanding she could be.
Charlie found the jar of Ragu sauce she had been looking for and quickly withdrew it from the cabinet and sat it on the counter with everything else. Traditional Ragu, made with only vegetables. That was why Charlie liked it. Because, as the world would tell you, Charlie was a vegetarian, and had been for years. She could still remember when the realization had come that the cute little cows she saw on farms and TV were what made up a hamburger and steaks and other products. It had been that moment that she had sworn off all meat and taken up the eating habits she now had. She had attempted over the years to convert her parents, only succeeding with her mother. Her father was set in his ways, though he did try not to eat such things around Charlie as he usually got a lecture and guilt trip when he did. It was from her father that she had gained her strong personality, and they often butted heads on the subject. So Charlie’s spaghetti was always without meat. She would have the noodles and the sauce, and her own personal touch of mushrooms, but no meat. That was how it was done in Charlie’s house, and if someone didn’t like it, then they could just go eat elsewhere.

Lucas signed off of his computer with a huge grin on his face. He loved when he spoiled her plans and made himself right in. He was used to that though, always letting himself in. He made sure he was actually ready and grabbed everything. Lucas hated the fact of cooking, but if she was making dinner, then he was forced to help. He remembered when he had met her too, back so long ago that it seemed that he was married to her basically. But that would be incest, only because they’re siblings without the blood ties. Charlie Brown –as he would call her sometimes- was his best friend in the whole wide world. She was always connected to his hip, as he was with her. And if anything had happened, either one would come to the rescue. Growing up, it was always that they were hanging out, and his parents had loved her, allowing her to come over a lot, and Lucas knew then that there was no way she would play with Hot Wheels or G.I. Joe. Then his parents died, and she was there for him. And it goes the other way too; her parents adore him enough to let him stay there every now and again if needing too. He usually went over there, and Charlie knew that he wouldn’t play babies with her if she forced him too. What he had loved about her, was she always told it like it was, and he did that too, it’s how they fought each other. Whenever they were together, all hell broke loose, and it was just what they had that bonded them that way. They both exchanged keys, and he loved to come to her house and sit there while she was away. It was just amusing and he would write her a note saying he was here and took something to eat or something stupid. If it was his out, she managed to scare him shitless because he never knew when she was going to come or even pop out of nowhere. It was a funny sight to see though.
Getting into his car, he drove to her house and enjoyed the ideas. Besides, he knew what she was probably doing, finding a fire extinguisher and some getting some safety stuff, because with the two of them there’s destined to be something wrong. He knew what she was like though, she was a vegetarian, so, he had grown accustomed of eating healthy at her house, and he always made sure he had some stuff for her to eat at his house, because of the fact that she doesn’t dare to eat meat. See, they actually cared about each other enough to actually buy the right food. There was some times where Lucas had brought meat to her house while she wasn’t there and had some. He made sure the mess was clear though so that she didn’t have a meltdown –though that would be funny as hell-. She didn’t live far from him, because if they were far, he would kill himself. It was easier for them to torment each other, and for her to demand things and as well for him to be silly enough to actually demand things as well. It was like how they were; both of them were used to it though, growing up since like, pre-k and all. Lucas had to stop at a red light, and he grumbled. He hated stupid driving stuff; otherwise he would be speedy lightening. And that was cool shit right there. Finally going, he checked his clock and groaned. He loved wasting time, it was funny since she was the one who wanted everything perfect, and so, he liked to make her a bit mad with things. It was how he was; he loved to torment her with everything.
Pulling up to her house, he pulled into the space and parked his car. There was no need to knock, hell, he could break the door knob and still get in. Placing the key into the whole, he walked in and shut the door, automatically hearing her speak to him. Yup, I know the code and everything. So it is easier for me to get in. He said with a grin. He walked more into the house and took his jacket off, setting it on the back of a chair. Now he was sent to orders, and he rolled his eyes at her. That wasn’t a surprise, he was used to it. MY God. Does this mean I get to see you, of all people, in a dress?! This is a miracle! Oh sweet Jesus! Lucas said sarcastically, but made it light enough to laugh. It was a long time since he had last seen her in a dress, not that it was important, but he hasn’t seen it in a while, so this was something good enough to get him to laugh. He was only kidding about it though; he wouldn’t really hurt her feelings. He loved her too much to even do that, but they did do that when they were joking around. He was already getting the water in the pot and putting it at the stove. He knew it was crazy, but he was used to doing everything. I didn’t even say hello you dirty girl. Lucas said with a smirk, referring back to their conversation just a few minutes ago. He was only kidding with her, as she had called him a tramp. If he was, wouldn’t he have the tramp stamp? Lucas shook that thought out of his head and grinned at her. Now, with them both being in one house, with a burning stove and boiling water, he wondered what kind of trouble they would get in, but at the same time, he had hoped that there was no trouble going to happen while they were cooking, but with them two, you guys will never know what happens.

the big screens the plastic made dreams say you don't want it ,
“My God. Does this mean I get to see you, of all people, in a dress?! This is a miracle! Oh sweet Jesus!” Charlie glared at him playfully. He made it sound like she was a total tomboy who never wore dresses. That was so not the case. Charlie could actually be pretty girlie if she so desired. She could often be found wearing skirts or even dresses on days when it was warm. It just so happened to be winter and Charlie chose jeans over the more girlie articles in her closet. “Shut up! It’s not like you’ve never seen me in a dress before.” He was just being difficult, she knew, and she stuck her tongue out at him before leaving the kitchen. Charlie was one of the more relaxed teachers when it came to dressing. She came to school in jeans, t-shirts, and tennis shoes, and had actually been mistaken for a student on several occasions because she apparently blended in with them so well. That was not surprising, though. Charlie was quite short for a girl her age, only standing at a height of five foot two, and so the wide majority of students she taught were much taller than she was. Add in the fact that she was always casually dressed and she blended in amongst them quite easily. Charlie was also very young, though. She had only graduated from the very high school that she taunt at six years ago. She hadn’t grown up that much since then, and there were, in fact, students around the place that looked much older than her. Charlie had actually gotten into an argument once with one of the newer teachers at the school over whether or not she was a faculty member or not. The woman had been convinced Charlie was just a trouble maker, and it wasn’t until she had drug her over to the next classroom for confirmation from another teacher that she had been believed. It had been crazy, but something that those she had told never let her live down.
“I didn’t even say hello you dirty girl.” Charlie looked over at him and glared at him again, playfully of course, as she knew he was only teasing. “Tramp,” she said under her breath, but still loud enough for him to hear. She stood at the counter, chopping up the mushrooms that she would put into her spaghetti sauce. She knew where the comment had come from, which was the conversation that had led to this little meal of theirs. Hers also from that as he had basically made up a similarity that made him the tramp in it all. Which was actually quite funny when Charlie thought about it. She was pretty sure he wouldn’t have wanted to be the lady, though that probably would have made it funnier. Charlie grabbed another pot and placed it beside the one he was boiling water in and placed her sauce and the mushrooms into it, turning it on low so they could cook and be ready by the time the water boiled and the spaghetti noodles had cooked. “Watch that and don’t let it burn or you’ll be making a trip to the store.” She was completely serious, too, because Charlie certainly wasn’t going to be making the trip to do so. “And when you put those noodles in, they better not burn either.” She was teasing just a bit with that one, though still serious. It sounded funny, the thought of someone burning noodles, but she had seen it down many times. Names would not be named, but she had seen it happen before.
Charlie prepared the garlic bread and stuck it in the oven as well, then sat herself on the counter beside the stove and watched over the stuff on top. So far so good. There had been no major accidents and no one had succeeded in setting themselves on fire. Though that would have been funny, Charlie wasn’t sure how well that would end up as the one on fire would likely need medical attention. Hopefully nothing that crazy would come of them just making dinner.

He smirked. He knew where she was coming from with the whole tramp thing. Lucas rolled his eyes as he watched her go on and put the noodles in the pot and set the sauce as well in a different pot. He knew what to do, which was simple enough to watch them and make sure they would not burn. Lucas wasn’t that stupid, well, he could be, but that was called being difficult, not stupid. Though he has done it many times before. Fine.. And I will watch them, whore. He said, making the last word in a joking tone. If they were going to play like that, then he would do so. He was only kidding though, because he never would call her that. That would kill him, and he knew her parents would be all over his ass, but then again, they love him enough to forgive him on it. He leaned against the counter, crossing his arms and looked at her. Lucas cleared his throat and would look at both pots here and there. He didn’t chance it at all, he rather not drive to the store, he had enough trouble driving here, he didn’t need to go have more trouble. If it burns, you’re going to the store with me. Because as long as ive known you, I still don’t get what vegetarian stuff you eat. You have to make me a list for my house, so that’s why I got it at my house and not here. Lucas said. She usually did have him make a list for his house, so that whenever she was over, he at least had the things she would eat there and for her not to starve to death. He wasn’t that mean of a best friend, he would cry if something bad had happened to her, he would feel like he lost someone else in his life, but nope, he wasn’t going to allow that, and he wasn’t going to allow so much meat in his house with her there, but he still will have meat, just for him anyways.
Oh honey, I know I’ve seen you in a dress. It’s just been a while.. That’s all. The last time had to be like what, few years or so?? I don’t remember…Lucas said sheepishly. His memory was never great, but once someone refreshed his memory, he exactly knew about it then, and remembered that moment. Lucas had looked up at her, giving her a questioning look, Not that its none of my business, but have you heard from that Jacob guy lately? … I can totally shut up about this now. Lucas said looking away quickly. He remembered years ago about it all, he knew everything, partially because he was around Charlie, besides, he wouldn’t do no harm. They were best friends. He knew Jacob from Football, so it was cool to know him. He normally didn’t know most of her friends, he knew one though, who he had seen a few days ago, which he didn’t mention to Charlie at all, he didn’t need a little ‘aww, TELL ME EVERYTHING’ moment, though he was used to it from her. So, he wasn’t going to bring that up, and he was going to shut up about the question he had asked unless she did want to answer that for him. His eyes did look back and forth between both pots, making sure they weren’t burning at all. He could instantly tell that the noodles were nearly cooked to perfection, so Lucas put his weight back on his feet and went to grab the strainer.
Grabbing it, he set it in the sink and turned around to grab the pot of noodles. He poured them in, straining all the water out, then turned the water on to cool them down just a tad so that they wouldn’t burn their mouths at all. If you actually saw him at his own house or something, he was actually a pretty good cook. He did have recipes he had gotten from his aunt and uncle, even his grandparents. He had proven his point before, making something for Charlie a year or so ago and making sure it was vegetarian for her anyways. Just because he was a good cook, Lucas still hated to actually do the work. Sure he was great at it; he just was usually lazy half the time not to do it. He knew her house well enough to actually know where the plates were. He grabbed some and the cups, then set it out over to where the table is. Hey Whore, it’s time to eat.. Lucas said with a playful grin. He was still only kidding about the whore thing. He obviously knew she was going to keep calling him tramp; he really wouldn’t care, because in the end, he knew she was only joking with him. Besides, that’s what they’re both there for, joking and teasing each other as well as tormenting the living shit out of each other. Lucas got his plate and went on to grab his own spaghetti, set it on the counter, then headed over to the fridge to grab his own drink. Come on and eat, I’m not your slave miss Charlie brown. Lucas said looking at her and grinned.

the big screens the plastic made dreams say you don't want it ,
Charlie Gray had a very demanding personality. She was one of those types that got her way because she was entirely too stubborn and hard-headed to take no for an answer. She would use whatever means were at her disposal to get what she wanted, and Charlie had such a way of charming people that she could typically get what it was that she wanted. Few people said no to a pretty girl, and Charlie was definitely one of those. But a lot of people also happened to like Charlie. She was very well liked, and had been so since high school and even before that. She was never one of the most popular girls in school or anything like that, but she had been well known, and to ask anyone, they couldn’t really say a bad thing about her. True she was controlling and demanding and a perfectionist to no end, but she was also very nice and kind and she had such a crazy and goofy personality that you couldn’t help but like her. Charlie knew her flaws. She knew she could be as annoying as hell when she wanted to be, and she had the ability to drive people crazy, but those parts of her personality didn’t always make themselves known. She was a favorite teacher among the students, too, so her control freak nature couldn’t have been too drastic. She demanded the very best from those that were placed under her guidance, and if you didn’t fully devote yourself to what you were doing, Charlie would let you hear a thing or two about it. She could whip the laziest person into shape with enough time, and in the end her performances were always amazing. Her hard work and dedication paid off, and that was probably the best lesson that she could teach any of the students placed in her care.
It was Charlie’s demanding personality that had gotten her and Lucas here, her telling him that if he wanted to eat her food he was going to have to help her prepare it. He had argued, but in the end she had won and here they were. Charlie couldn’t say she was all that disappointed with the company. She liked having him around, and it was always fun to prepare food with someone else. As much as she saw Lucas, you’d think she’d be sick and tired of seeing his face around her home, but that was far from the case. He was probably one of her closest friends, so close that he sometimes felt like family, and when it came to family, you had no choice but to love them and enjoy their company. And that was definitely one of those situations. “If it burns, you’re going to the store with me. Because as long as I’ve known you, I still don’t get what vegetarian stuff you eat. You have to make me a list for my house, so that’s why I got it at my house and not here.” Charlie laughed. “It’s not that hard, Luke. No meat. As long as there is no meat, it’s all fine.” It wasn’t entirely too difficult of a concept, really. At least Charlie didn’t think so. “Just be glad I’m not a vegan. I’d like to see you try to get me something to eat then!” She laughed. Charlie didn’t think she could ever be a vegan as there were entirely too many restrictions, and she was rather fond dairy products and eggs. She would be lost without her yogurt or ice cream or even milk. She didn’t think she could ever put that much thought into finding herself something to eat.
“Oh honey, I know I’ve seen you in a dress. It’s just been a while.. That’s all. The last time had to be like what, few years or so?? I don’t remember…” Charlie rolled her eyes. “Try early fall. Like, September.” It hadn’t been all that often at all, Lucas was just exaggerating, trying to make her seem less girly than she was. He was crazy. There was a moment of silence, Charlie glancing over at the food and stirring them occasionally from where she was perched on the counter. What Lucas said next, though, actually really surprised her. “Not that it’s none of my business, but have you heard from that Jacob guy lately? … I can totally shut up about this now.” Charlie actually feel herself freeze at the sound of Jacob’s name, but she quickly caught herself and brushed it off. “Yeah, actually. I saw him the day he got back to town, and then there was his father’s funeral…” Jacob King was a very big part of Charlie’s past. At one time he had been her closest friend, possibly even closer than Lucas was now, but the two were entirely different to her. Charlie and Jake had dated for three years at the end of high school, but then their relationship had ended and he had left town to go to college elsewhere. Charlie had been hurt when he had left, but it had been so long since she had last seen him that it was easy to forget all of that. Not that she could ever forget him. He was too big a part of her life for that. It was just weird with him being back now. “He’s actually going to go to Miranda’s wedding with me.” She made it sound like it was no big thing, but it actually kind of was. After all, she hadn’t seen him in years. There were a number of guys she could have asked to go with her, or she could have even gone by herself. But now she was going to take Jake. It definitely meant something.
When the food was done, Charlie’s eyes followed Lucas around the kitchen as he took care of the spaghetti and a great part of the meal. She grinned. While he finished up with that, she jumped from the counter and took care of the garlic bread, which was pretty much just taking it out of the oven and sticking it on a plate. No big deal at all. “Come on and eat, I’m not your slave miss Charlie brown.” Charlie laughed, bringing the garlic bread over to the table and taking her seat. “Are you sure about that?” she teased, taking a piece of garlic bread from the plate she had just sat on the table. She picked up her fork and dug in.

Lucas was the guy to be so funny. He was the guy that people came too for when they needed a laugh or just something important. And in Charlie’s case, it was some amusement in her life and of course, to have a super-duper fun time with him. He was like that in high school, but he was cockier a bit because of his status, the bad boy good-looking jock. He did mostly basketball and football, but he was still the guy who got laughs out. He still considers himself a jock, but yah know, that has changed a bit because of who he is and where he works. Everyone also knew that he didn’t dress like a “bad boy” as people thought of him; he wore the normal button down plaid shirt with jeans. He dressed simply; there was no need to stereotype him on his clothes. People were surprised about it though, because of how he was. Lucas didn’t mind what people thought, because who gave a shit about them? Besides, there was no need to talk about each other about each other’s flaws. Everyone had them, and that’s how he also got Charlie on his case more, well they both were on each other’s cases, but it was always for amusement, it’s how he managed to get past high school, and the people that were there. There was nothing to be bothered about, Lucas was still Lucas.
While he was working on everything, and finishing it up on the little things, their conversations still lasted on and on. He enjoyed randomly inviting himself for dinner, and he knew she loved his company. It was the other way around too, though she doesn’t get scared when he randomly comes. Lucas looked at her and grinned. If you were a vegan, I think I’d kill myself. Because that would mean no good food here and you’d be gagging with what I eat. And at my house, you’d be starving. So, thank you for not being Vegan. Lucas said. It was true, he was thankful she wasn’t a vegan, it was going to suck, and thinking about it, that would be a major let down on food for him. He would have to go organic, which sounded disgusting to him. Sure, he ate healthy because of Charlie being a vegetarian, but to be a vegan and organic? That would just kill him. And he knew that, that Charlie felt the same way about it, so they both agreed on this. Besides, living without ice cream or milk or the good stuff would desperately kill him, no doubt about that. He remembered a time when he had tried for a week to go vegetarian… yeah that ended like a day or two after he said he would, because he couldn’t stand being away from meat. Yep, he was a carnivore and he was sure as hell proud of it… Okay, maybe a little bit of an omnivore, but mostly a carnivore.
Jacob King. Lucas knew the guy from high school and sports. He also knew him from Charlie and him being her boyfriend. Lucas wasn’t that superficial close to her as they are now, but Lucas and Charlie were close. He knew she never forgot about him, how could she? She was his past and would stay that way. He had asked her a question about him, but had quickly shut up, not knowing if he had crossed a boundary, but then again, he would know if he did because of how she was. I see. That’s cool. Haven’t seen him since HS, but I’ve talked to him over IM. Awkward, but it was cool to talk to him again. Lucas said giving a nod. Then he went on to listen on to see if she was going to add anything else, which she did seconds later and Lucas nodded once again. That’s cool, hell im going and don’t have a date. That’s saying something. He added laughing at himself. Since they were sort of on the subject of high school people, he wondered if he should tell her about what he did at the cemetery…. okay not to make it sound like that, but who he saw and what not. He just didn’t know how to bring the thing up though.
Grabbing everything while she grabbed the bread, they set everything up on the table. Lucas grabbed some of the spaghetti on his plate, and then grabbed garlic bread. Slowly he started taking a few bites and sometimes took a drink. He licked his lips and looked at Charlie. Hell no I aint your slave. I was just being nice to get your things and what not. Besides, if I was a slave, don’t you think I’d be another color? Not trying to be racial, but seriously, I’d be a different color.. Lucas said grinning. Once again, they were both teasing each other; it was a habit of them to do that to each other. Lucas had enjoyed doing it too, because it was the fact that it came simply to him. It was easier for him to act like this half the time. Clearing his throat, he looked around, then back over to Charlie. I uh, had seen Maxine the other day… Lucas said, he didn’t know how else to say it or basically bring it up. Sure, he had known Maxine because she was Charlie’s friend, but he had never really known her or met her.. He would notice her here and there at school and see her at the games whenever he played. Lucas would never admit it out loud, unless something were to happen, but he wouldn’t even admit that he liked her then… and even now after he had seen her. He remembered the day as well. He could easily tell who she was just by looking at her, but he really couldn’t be sure, and the best way he knew was the headstone with her brother’s name on it. Lifting his fork again, Lucas brought the noodles up to his mouth, taking a few more bites, waiting to see her reaction on everything, and probably about what he had just told her. Maybe she had known that he had seen her, because Charlie and Maxine did talk, but how was Lucas going to know that? So, he just sat there quietly eating away whatever you want to call it meal.

“If you were a vegan, I think I’d kill myself. Because that would mean no good food here and you’d be gagging with what I eat. And at my house, you’d be starving. So, thank you for not being Vegan.” Charlie laughed. She actually didn’t think she could ever be a vegan because of all the restrictions. Anything that was even breathed on by an animal was off limits. Eggs, dairy, and other things would have been forced out of her life, and Charlie didn’t think she could ever do that. She had to applaud those that did, though. Charlie had no trouble being a vegetarian, though. She was one by choice, and had been for years. Charlie was such a compassionate person that the thought of killing any living creature killed her. She couldn’t even bring it upon herself to kill spiders or other pests. She could recall several weeks ago when she had discovered a mouse was living in her kitchen cabinet. She couldn’t just let it continue to live there and eat everything it could find, but she also knew she couldn’t very well take care of it on her own. So she had called her good friend and buddy Hunter Trent to come over and help her. It had actually been a pretty interesting afternoon, but they had eventually succeeded in catching the little guy. She had then given him instructions to take it away and to release it. He was not allowed to harm the poor thing in anyway. She was pretty sure that Hunter did as she had asked, but she didn’t ask about it just in case. She liked to think that her little mouse was out there in the world. That he had found a little mousey wife and they had little mousey children that were extending the mouse population. It was a fantasy and likely not true, but Charlie didn’t want to think about what the other alternatives were. It would likely break her heart.
And then the conversation went to Jacob. He was a very important part of Charlie’s past, and Lucas knew that, which was probably why he was treading lightly on the subject. It was okay, though. Charlie had no hard feelings towards him about what had happened between them and she was actually really glad he was back. The two of them had once been the best of friends. They had been so close, and Jake had been the one to know her completely. But what they had once had was something that was no longer there. He had left town, left her, and now he felt like a stranger to her. Now that he was back, though, she was hoping that they could somehow get back to that. She hoped that she could know him like she once had, that they could be friends again. It was possible, and Charlie was willing to try. “I see. That’s cool. Haven’t seen him since high school, but I’ve talked to him over IM. Awkward, but it was cool to talk to him again.” Charlie smiled. “Well that’s good,” she said. At least she wasn’t the only one who had talked to Jake since he had come back. “That’s cool, hell I’m going and don’t have a date. That’s saying something.” Charlie laughed with him. She grinned. “Well be sure to save a dance for me then! I won’t take no for an answer.” Charlie had already promised that she was going to steal each of the Trent brothers for a dance, and Kaler Scott was going to be pushing her around the dance floor at some point, or more likely she would be pushing him. Adding someone else to her list wouldn’t hurt anything. Jacob had already expressed his indesire to dance, though he was definitely going to be forced onto the dance floor as well. Charlie was a dancer, it’s what she did for a living. Charlie Gray lived for occasions such as these, and so she was going to take full advantage of it.
“Hell no I ain’t your slave. I was just being nice to get your things and what not. Besides, if I was a slave, don’t you think I’d be another color? Not trying to be racial, but seriously, I’d be a different color.” Charlie just rolled her eyes and laughed, deciding to concentrate on her food that the two of them had just made together. The meal had turned out quite well, Charlie had to say. It had been kind of fun to do too, what with Lucas here and all. Charlie was actually a pretty exceptional cook, having learned all she knew from her mother who had a knack for that kind of thing. Learning from the best was the way to go. “I uh, had seen Maxine the other day…” Charlie glanced up at that, looking over at him. Maxine was one of her good friends, and the girl had been going through a really hard time lately with her brother dying. Charlie had been there for her as often as she could, just like she was now with Jake and his mother since his father had died. She was good like that, always there when someone she loved needed her. Unfortunately, these hadn’t been the best of circumstances. “Really? That’s cool. When did you see her?” She didn’t want to read more into what he was saying than was right there. Doing so could lead to some very wrong conclusions, and so Charlie was simply going to wait and see what all he had to say.

He nodded. Yeah, talking to Jacob probably was a good thing. But at the same time just a bit awkward only because of the fact that he had hurt Charlie and she came running to Lucas, which is how they got closer. That led Jacob to think they were together, which wasn’t true. He did remember all high school stuff with both of them. They were good friends; football and basketball were their priorities along with showing the tricks to be with girls. That’s probably how Charlie got with him and Lucas had a few one night stands type of things. If he had remembered correctly, he could probably be wrong, one time it was with Rockie. Like Lucas would remember, he had horrible memory at times. Back to the main stuff, At least Charlie was happy that he was going to make an effort in trying to talk to Jacob again. Well, Lucas was trying anyways. They had changed to the wedding, oh how he was going to have fun. Lucas already was going, because he and Miranda were good friends due to Charlie. He didn’t have a date, so obviously it was a party for one. Which he didn’t mind at all. A dance? I don’t dance for my life; drink yes, but dancing no and you know that Charlie Brown. But, I think if you’re my dancing partner, I will survive somehow. . . Lucas said with a small laugh. Yup, he was one of the WORST dancers ever, even in high school he was, probably why he didn’t go to dances much, or it was that Charlie dragged him to go. Whatever, he would fail at it no matter what, and he probably will suck at it at his wedding day, any type of formal thing, all in all, Lucas just fails miserably.
Maxine. That had seemed to get Charlie’s attention. He, once again, referring to high school, knew that they were best of friends, hints how he knew her. Plus it was the fact of everything else in his life, seeing her around school not gawking over him and at the football games with Charlie. He had talked to her a few times then, it wasn’t much, but he did talk to her. There were mistakes then and he should’ve fixed it then. Maybe he should’ve talked to her more or actually got to know her. But, how could he do that now. Shaking his head to get the thoughts out of his head, he looked back at Charlie and sighed. At the cemetery. Went to go visit ma and pops on the anniversary of their death, and I saw her. Lucas hesitated to say. He rarely liked to talk about his parents; he never was the one to talk about them or his emotions. Charlie understood that, because of how long he had known her, she could basically read him like a book. He could do the same thing for her really. He cleared his throat and went on speaking away. Obviously I didn’t remember her; a lot of people are blonde. But I went over there and saw her brother’s headstone. I knew who she was. She hasn’t changed much, still amazing and hot I can tell you. I got her to laugh a bit and took her out. She hasn’t talked to people much about everything other than you, has she? Lucas asked at the end. He got her to talk about everything, she needed it and he could tell when he was with her. He hadn’t heard or seen her since then, but he had wondered though. But he wasn’t going to bring it up; he didn’t want to jinx it just yet.
Lucas gave a bit of a small laugh to himself. From earlier about Rockie, he forgot to mention to Charlie that she was back. He knew of their history, and he hated the fact of them hating each other. But it is what it is. He was actually happy she was back in town, he had missed his Rockie. He was the one that she actually loved and liked. He had a conversation with her the other day, and was actually happy. Before you have a bitch fit about it, Rockie is back.. Lucas said. Wait, she didn’t know the nickname she used, because Charlie never really… had a good relationship with her like Lucas has. Raquel Vega. The cheerleader in school who was always bitchy at you.. She returned from Barcelona. Lucas said. She was lucky, in a way, because she got to travel and Lucas had no fucking money to even travel. Well, he had a job, but he never got a pay check for it just yet. He would eventually. It was quite awkward, if you thought about it, everyone from high school that were somewhat close and were actually close were coming back. He didn’t realize Maxine was here still, Lucas and Charlie had always been here, now it was Jacob coming back for Charlie and his dad’s funeral, and Raquel “Rockie” was back from Barcelona to be how she was then and to be with her loveable Lucas. There were just a few people who weren’t back, and he was really wondering if they would come back, which he honestly doubted, but he never knew anything. Lifting the fork once more, he brought it to his mouth to take a bite, and then lowered it to his plate. His hand reached over to his cup and he took a sip. So, after our lovely dinner, what are we doing? Movies, popcorn, or whatever you wanna do? Lucas asked after a few moments of silence, he was wondering what they were going to do after this, well, maybe Lucas would clean the plates or whatnot, he didn’t know. Hell, he would probably pack up some of this and bring it back to his house for a midnight snack or something.
