Slamming the door shut to his pick up truck, Matthew could already hear the top fourty radio hits pulsating through the speakers. The party had been going on for an hour or so, and he already noticed someone puking in the bushes, and the number of red cups scattered across every surface as he entered. Matthew was late, of course, as he was to every after game party the team held, but now that the party was already underway, it was time for the real fun to start. Matt already had two beers in his system, and he was hoping for another one when he stepped into the kitchen. "MATT DAVIDSON, THE REASON WE'RE ON OUR WAY TO THE PLAYOFFS, BABY!" Matt's face displayed a smirk as the crowd raised their red cups in the air, cheering loudly over the loud music that certainly wasn't Matt's taste. In tonight's game, Matt had made the game winning touchdown.
The praise was different here than it had been in Texas but times had to change. His coach had wanted him to do more with himself, and no one defied that coach. He didn't want to watch Matt get stuck in Texas, drinking beer on his couch day after day with no real job. Matthew's football skills got him into college in Arietta, Maine, hence the move, and he left everything in Texas behind. Well, the people at least. Matthew still loved the same three things: football, alcohol, and sex. He was fairly certain that would never change. He gave his friend a nod in thanks, before he opened the fridge to grab a cold one and leave the kitchen without a word. In the doorway, he stopped in his tracks, noticing a gorgeous brunette walk through the front door; the same one he had invited earlier. He ran his tongue over his lips, and smiled. Tonight just got interesting.
He made his way through the sea of red cup holding college students, and over to the stunning woman of whom caught his eye since she walked in. "Lainey Van Leer," He started, taking a swig from the cold beer he held in his hand, "you showed up." Matt ran his fingers through his long hair in that signature way that he did, giving her a small smile; it was the type of smile that made most of his women just melt. He certainly had that hurt puppy look to his eyes too, which added to it all. A teammate of his then came up behind him, and patted him on the shoulder as he walked by, turning around for a second to tell him, "Great game tonight, Davidson" Matt nodded in recognition. "You too eighty-seven." He normally memorized his teammates numbers rather than their names, because really, most of their names were no use to him. He rested his eyes upon Lainey again; she was hot. He had been thinking about her ever since the team started going to the place where she worked as a waitress. He took another long swig of his beer, and looked her up and down. "So what made you decide to take me up on my offer?" He asked. He was curious, but he spoke in his usual nonchalant tone.

walking up the cobble stone walkway, lainey's focus was directed on the ground beneath her. from down the block where she parked you could hear the music blasting and it was way easy to point out which house party matthew davidson had invited her to. earlier in the afternoon he had stopped by fire and ice without his football crew to invite her and she politely told him she'd have to think about it - it was mostly depending on how busy the cafe was that night but since grey had over heard the invite, he let her leave early to attend tonight's party. this was a college party with college people and since lainey hadn't gone to college but straight to work instead, she felt that she would be out of place. she was clearly aware of the football team's chance at the playoffs and a few of matt's friends had even casually promoted matt and said that he was the reason they were going. it was obvious matt had found lainey attractive - his football friends made it known each time they came into the cafe - and lainey didn't think he was all that bad either, she found him kind of hot. for a while now, the players had been coming by the cafe and each time they did, personally requesting lainey to waitress for matt's benefit. lainey knew it wasn't because of the way she asked how they'd like their burger cooked or what they would like to drink; she wasn't stupid! she now knew all the regulars' names and even expected them at their usual time. it came as a surprise matt was alone when he had asked her out earlier though, she even had to check for football players nearby. she loved how the football players treated her - they weren't total pigs and had some respect for her, keeping her up-to-date on the scores and giving her the low down of the games as they tried explaining football to her but they also treated her like one of the guys, probably because she wasn't about to let her gaurd down that easily with that much testosterone around.
entering the party, lainey spotted a few of the players with girls underneath their arms and sitting on their laps and it caused kind of a flashback. during high school, lainey was a popular athlete - she was a cheerleading volleyball player. instantly stepping the room, lainey felt out of place and hoped matt would find her sometime soon. cups were tossed everywhere and there were kegs in the corner, beer pong in the next room, and lots of grinding going on where lainey was shoved into a corner. lainey allowed a sigh to escape her lips as she heard her name between the break of songs playing. she turned her head to see matt making his way towards her and a smile formed across her face. "is superstar football player matt davidson talking to me?" she glanced over her shoulders and playfully pretend that he was talking to someone else and it couldn't possibly be her he was speaking to. she let out a small laugh before leaning against the wall. "yeah, um, grey offered to close the cafe tonight." she explained after bitting her bottom lip and watching his manurisms. she watched a fellow football player interrupt by giving matt a congrats. watching the football player walk away, lainey looked back at matt to see him looking at her. a small smile formed across her face. lainey looked around the party - some people were already wasted and long gone yet the party had been going for a few hours already. it reminded her of high school. she wasn't a total outsider but she did know how to behave and the parties she attended with her girls usually looked just like this. she leaned into matt, hearing him say something but not really catching it. "what?" she shouted over the music, brushing her hair behind her hear so she could hear him better. "oh," she nodded after he repeated himself, placing a hand on his arm as she pulled away. she shrugged, "i ran out of beer at my place." she joked as a laugh followed.
lainey found it weird to see the football players outside of the cafe, the only place she saw them at. she had become good friends with all of them and she liked to think even better friends with matt since he had invited her here in the first place. the brunette found it kind of adorable that he looked at her like some beauty queen when she didn't even consider herself that close to beautiful. she had got the hints the team dropped when around matt at the cafe and she had even been told by a few of them matt really liked her. she hadn't said much about it to matt personally but decided she'd let fate take it's course and see where they ended up. in her mind college parties worked just like college ones and she was no idiot. she knew that the guys in this place were concerned about getting laid and most of the girls were thinking the same way too. lainey was a friendly person and had a good personality to match her looks. she was a social butterfly and knew that she could handle herself if matt ever decided to leave her for some other girl but by the way he was looking at her, she had a feeling she would be that girl. the twenty-four year old didn't find matt bad looking at all and she wasn't against whatever happened tonight. a smile formed across her face as one of the football players she knew well walked over to hand her a drink and place his arm around her neck, facing matt as he said some smart remark giving even more hint that matt liked lainey. sipping on her drink, lainey let out a giggle before hitting the player in the chest with her hand. "goodbye jesse!" she commented as she pushed the player away and focused her attention on matt.

"I believe he is. Must be your lucky day." Matthew wasn't really all that cocky; sure of himself, yes, but he wasn't a show off in the least. He was good at football, in fact, he was probably one of the best, most valued players on the team. This didn't change his attitude in the least, however. He was still the same Matthew Davidson, showing up to practice hungover, enjoying meaningless hook ups, and then showing up to game day giving it his all. Then again, giving it his all still required about a beer or two. He was great, but he never spoke about that greatness when he was off the field. Whenever Matt was around Lainey, however, this cockiness became their form of joking with one another. Matt rested his arm against the wall and leaned against it, staring down at the pretty brunette. When she didn't hear what he had said, Matt took the opportunity to lean in real close. "I'm glad you came." He told her simply; genuinely smiling at her. He didn't know what it was, but something intrigued him about this girl. He remembered spotting her the first day the team celebrated at the cafe. She walked over to their table in her cute little uniform, and Matt was hooked. She was absolutely gorgeous; pretty face, petite frame. The fact that she could banter back and forth with him was a big plus. He wasn't looking for anything serious, but he certainly wouldn't mind hanging around her more often.
He stood back for a moment, just as one of his teammates walked over and handed Lainey a drink, putting his arm around her. "We're glad you showed up, Lainey. Now we won't have to watch Matthew over here have one too many due to a broken heart." Matt smirked, drinking the last bit of beer from his bottle. "One too many? Is there such a thing?" Matthew Davidson was quite the drinker. He normally stuck to beer, but occasionally he would use it as the chase for a much stronger form of alcohol. He had quite a large tolerence, and probably fought through the pain of hangover every couple days. "Hey, get out of here seven." He told him with a nod, watching as Lainey hit him in the chest. Her tiny ineffectual fists were actually kind of cute. "Ah, so that's his name." Matt smiled, placing the bottle of beer down on the ground. It wasn't his house, he didn't need to clean it up. The look on his face made it appear as if he was joking, but he really wasn't. Hey, there were a lot of players on the team. He couldn't remember them all. "I need another beer, care to join me?" He asked, tilting his head towards the kitchen. The two walked in, and as he grabbed another beer from the fridge, the song on the radio changed. A large group of girls wooed at the top of their lungs, and Matt sighed, clearly displeased. He placed the beer back into the fridge, this time grabbing a six pack. "What do you say we go somewhere quieter? We can have our own party."
Before waiting for her answer, he left the kitchen knowing she would follow. He knew she had come because he had invited her, after all, other than the team he didn't think she really knew anybody at the party. He didn't either, but that was by choice; they knew him. He walked down the empty hallway, and opened the door to the first room only to be greeted by moaning, movement under the covers, followed by shouting for him to get the fuck out. Matt laughed at this, clearly not uncomfortable at all. "Use protection!" He shouted once the door was shut, carrying on down the hallway. He gave a look back to Lainey, unable to tell how she felt about what she had just seen. Granted, it wasn't like there was much to see; it was dark, and they were under the covers at least. It was just a whole lot of moaning, a lot. Matt honestly believed the girl was faking. He knocked at the next door and upon hearing no response, he entered. He sat down on the edge of the bed, pulling a bottle out of the six pack he brought upstairs. "Help yourself." He told her before he popped off the top, taking the first swig of his cold one. "It's nice to see you out of your uniform." He stated. He was a guy; he was thinking about how nice she would look out of all her clothes, but he was gentleman enough not to say that. Then again, Matthew Davidson wasn't always the biggest gentleman, perhaps just around Lainey Van Leer. [/blockquote]

lainey was the kind of girl that befriended guys more often than girls so it was no surprise she knew all the football players and had grown to love them each. a day wouldn't pass without the boys stopping by the cafe! out of all the boys though, matt davidson happened to be her favorite but she would never let any of them know that. she liked to think of herself as a little sister to all of them, she was their home girl practically. lainey glanced between matt and the boy before settling back on matt. it was obvious how matt felt about her but she wasn't the kind to purposely tease him about it or even bring it up in the first place. lainey had gone through her whole life with boys liking her so it came as no surprise whenever a new one took interest in her. lainey was far from concieted but she did know when a boy liked her and it wasn't hard to tell either, just like it was with matt. "yeah! you don't know number seven? that's my boy." she joked, jerking her head in the direction where the boy wandered off to. her attention was torn from matt to wander around the party and see what everyone else was doing. the chances of lainey staying attached to matt's hip the whole night were great; she didn't know anyone her and she wasn't going to introduce herself to people who wouldn't remember her by the next morning. it was pointless in her eyes to socialize. lainey looked up at matt as she leaned her back against the wall. before she could give him an answer, he was leaving in the direction of the kitchen and since she would be alone if she didn't go with, she followed him after placing her cup on a nearby table. glancing over her shoulder to hear the music growing louder and a group of girls yelling, lainey turned back to see matt exiting the kitchen and heading down the hallway. deciding to follow, lainey caught up with matt at the first door as she stood closely behind. the idea of breaking off to enjoy each other's company sounded better than hanging around a living room where she knew no one and could barely hear matt over the music. she didn't
hearing what was going on in the room and seeing the pitch black covers move, lainey slightly opened her mouth and shut her eyes right after. immeadiately, lainey covered her eyes with her hand and moved behind matt. "ew!" she squealed after matt closed the door before saying some smart remark and heading for the next door. sighing to hear and see that the room was unoccupied, lainey followed matt inside. taking a seat next to matt, lainey nodded at his statement and reached for a beer after he did. handing the beer over to matt to pop off the lid, she gave a smile and shrugged her shoulders. popping the top off should come as a second nature and she probably wasn't strong enough to do it by herself even though she hadn't tried it before. "i do have a life outside of being a waitress," she paused, taking a sip of her beer before glancing over at matt. "as surprising as that may sound. i actually don't live there, either." she playfully joked, gently shoving matt with her elbow before a small smile spread across her face. she could tell he was nervous and she didn't know if her humor was getting old or what it was that made him so nervous. she guessed it was the fact that they were alone. "so, what made you invite me tonight?" she was curious about that one. she never saw matt outside of the cafe and it was pretty weird to see him at a social gathering like this one. but they were friends and a friend could invite another friend to a party without any reason. as she watched matt, lainey couldn't help but find him more attractive by the minute. she loved the way he clenched his jaw whenever he was thinking about something and she noticed over the course of a few weeks that he had a nice smile. with alcohol in their systems, lainey wasn't sure where the night would go but she was happy to sit back and let it's take it's course. wherever it went, it went and lainey promised herself she wouldn't have any regrets by morning.

Matt smirked at her response, taking a nice long swig of his cold beer. "I thought you were just a waitress twenty-four seven." He flashed one of his classic smiles, his eyes on her like they were trying to burn his clothes off. He could be a gentleman, but that didn't mean he wasn't a guy, and this guy was drinking. He curiously awaited her response. What did she do when she wasn't waitressing? He only saw her the times when the team went to the cafe after a practice, and they had only spoken when she was taking their orders, but something about her intrigued him, and that wasn't something that was easy to do. Most girls bored him; they were too easy, too clingy, too scared of taking chances. Granted, just because they bored him didn't mean they weren't good for a one night stand. Until he saw Lainey, however, he had never been interested in the possibly of more than just one night. There was definitely something different about Lainey Van Leer, and he wanted to find out what it was.
That was the reason he had invited her tonight, though her looks were a definite benefit to the whole package. "I wanted to find out what you're like when you're not waitressing." He told her simply, knocking back the rest of the beer. He placed it on the ground next to the six pack that now only contained four. "Are you willing to show me? He waited for her to finish her beer before he handed her another, grabbing one for himself. Matt could feel the alcohol's effect slowly creeping up on him, being that he had had quite a few now; what with the pre-drinking and then the drinks he had consumed here. Matt's eyes connected on Lainey's now who sat just inches from him. He watched as she took a long sip of her beer, and he did the same. Suddenly, Matt's lips were on hers; his free hand just gently resting on her thigh, his other hand around her back holding the beer tightly and as steady as he could. That beer was the last thing on his mind right now though. The two explored each others mouths, and it seemed like ages before they finally pulled away from each other. Panting, their faces still remained close enough to touch. He continued looking her in those deep brown eyes of hers, waiting to see if she was up for keeping the night interesting.

lainey was a good kid; she wasn't interested in half the things girls her age were. she was responsible and since she moved out on her own at seventeen, she was independent too. lainey also knew how to control her alcohol - she never had way too much but instead, enough to ensure a good time. finishing off her frist beer, lainey handed the empty bottle to matt in exchange for a brand new, full bottle of beer. the rare times when lainey was drunk, she was as irriational as everyone else and tonight was no exception. matt had always been attractive to her; minx in alcohol and there were no boundries. the brunette nodded, he wanted to find out who was behind lainey the waitress and know lainey the girl. the same girl who had a terrible singing voice but sang along anywayy because she loved the song and the same girl who lost her best friend in a tragic death. matt didn't know she enjoyed being a godmother to her best friend's son, andrew and since the two didn't talk outside of fire and ice, he also had no idea lainey was a poker god. lainey wasn't at all that interesting but as matt's lips met her's in a sudden kiss, the brunette wasn't focused on revealing every little detail about her life outside of being a waitress. lainey was different than the rest and she guessed that's why matt chose her from the sea of desperate sluts. their lips worked together and even though she was slightly caught by surprise, lainey went back for more when the kiss parted. taking no time to catch her breath or set down her beer, she smirked through the kiss as she heard her beer crash to the floor. the two had been just friends but rumor was that alcohol brought out the truth in people and as lainey kissed matt, she decided she was happy she chose to come tonight. you could only watch desperate housewives reruns and pig out on mac and cheese for so long before you have to get a social life with some new friends. "c-can i tell you something?" lainey broke the kiss as she caught her breath, "i expected you to leave me tonight for some blond tramp." she slightly laughed before glancing up to meet matt's eyes. lainey pressed her lips together and brushed a stray piece of her long locks out of her face.
in high school, lainey was the social butterfly of her group of friends. she was involved with not only cheerleading but volleyball captain. she broke all status quo's of the typical, bitchy cheerleader and made sure she took the time to get to know everyone. the girl had a heart of gold and never left anyone out. matt and lainey were complete opposites and she could only wonder what he was like in high school. she studied and passed all her exams, whereas matt barely got by and probably showed up to class with a bad hangover. lainey was hardly drunk but she was getting there with time, little did she know matt was a bit tipsy by now. lainey was sure not to get her hopes up; she knew what kind of reputation matt was known for and she didn't want to be treated like garbage the next time she saw him because of all of this. she wasn't positive if this was the real matt, if he had some burining desire to plan the night out like this - she was willing to bet he did though - or if this was just the drunk matt talking, but that didn't stop her from continuing what he had started. she had been around drunk people enough to know the fine line of the complete truth and the overexaggerated lies. the music booming in the background was drowning out and all lainey could hear was the breath's she took along with matt's. she placed a hand on his broad chest, pushing him down on the bed as they continued to kiss. if matt wasn't putting a stop to this then neither was the brunette. with each kiss, their lips worked together perfectly and their gasps for air only got more frequent. she could feel matt's hands wandering her petite body as she aimlessly ran her fingers through his long locks. lainey could only hope after all of this was said and done, matt and her walked out of this as friends just like they were before, but it wouldn't hurt to be more than that either.
