Nathaniel pushed the door open to his young sons room, and smiled as he was already sitting on the edge of his bed, dressed and ready to go. "I see you're ready to go," he said to his son with a grin. He noticed his shoes were already on, waiting to be tied up. He shook his head lightly, admiring what was right in front of him. Nate had had a hard life, but the little boy in front of him made it all worth it. Luckily he wasn't a problem child either, because raising a little boy on his own and working to provide for him was not an easy task already, despite how well mannered Andrew was. Taking a knee, Nathaniel tied his sons shoes before picking up him and setting him on the ground. The boy ran out of the room and stood in front of the coat rack, waiting for his father to grab his coat for him. Nathaniel was so fortunate to have had help raising Andrew. He had his mother, the woman who did everything in her power to protect Nathan. She was the strongest woman he knew, still keeping it together after dealing with his abusive father. Then, there was Lainey. Lainey was Andrew's mother's best friend when she was alive, and is now his godmother. Lastly, there was Randi - his ex girlfriend turned good friend. He didn't know how on earth he would have been able to do all of this without those three women, especially after his life was turned upside down.
No, he never planned on being a father at the age of eighteen, but everything had been going right in his life. He was deeply in love, and the two of them were willing to raise this child. He proposed and she said yes, and they had plans of a beautiful wedding after their son was born. Then all of those plans came crashing down around him. She went into labour early and while he got her to the hospital quickly, the doctors came out later to inform him that she developed complications that caused her death. His son had made it through, however, and he had to do the hardest thing he's ever had to do - including all those nights he watched his father beat his mother without being able to do a thing. He had to walk into that room and look into the eyes of his son; his son who looked so much like his mother. He had lost the most important person in his life, and just like that gained the most important. The two had never really talked about names before his birth, and the sex was a complete surprise to him as they had wanted it to be. Therefore, he named his son Andrew in the spur of the moment. It was the only name that seemed fitting for the little thing that was now the biggest part of his life.
"Here you go, little man." He said, patting Andrew over the head lightly with his right hand as he handed him his jacket with the left. He watched as his son hurriedly put it on before looking up at his father with a huge grin. "Can we please go see Aunt Randi now? Nate picked up Andrew, and grabbed his own jacket to rest over his shoulder. "Yes we can." He told him, picking his keys up off the counter. Every Thursday morning he would take Andrew over to Miranda's house; he would stay for a little bit to catch up, and then she gracefully babysat him with Nathaniel worked. Nate hated how much he worked sometimes, but he knew that he had to to provide the life he wanted for his son. He spent every other hour with him to make up for it, even if it meant falling asleep in the uncomfortable chair in his sons bedroom; watching him drift off after a story and then slowly drifting off to sleep himself. He knew that it would all be worth it in the future when he could watch his son graduate high school and go off to college just like his mama would have done. He just hoped he would have Andrea's smarts.
After pulling up, Nate walked around to open the door for his son, picking him up out of his car seat. After he placed him on the ground, the kid was off like a rocket to the front door. He couldn't reach the doorbell, so he knocked on the door repeatedly until Randi came to answer the door. Nate watched this scene from the end of the driveway, shutting the door to the car as he watched Randi open the door. "Aunt Randi!" He then watched his son wrap his arms around the woman's legs, almost refusing to ever let go. "Hey, you got to let her walk little man." He told his son, ruffling up his hair as he finally released his grasp. "Hi Randi," Nate smiled at his friend, leaning in to give her a tight hug. It was pretty crazy that the two of them were still friends, after all they had dated in high school. The break up was a mutual one, however, and the two had luckily remained friends, because his son absolutely adored her. "How are you doing?"

There was one thing in this entire world that she could not have hoped for more than what she was getting in this week. It was the week of her wedding, the twenty year old was going to marry the man of her dreams on Saturday. It was only two days away, and there was always stuff that was going to need done. Thankfully her soon to be in-laws had made the bed and breakfast the location for their son’s wedding. It was going to be beautiful and outside! Miranda James had been planning on an outside wedding since she could ever remember, and she just wanted to be married to Jared Trent already. The man had been in her life since she moved in with her grandmother six years ago. The brunette had been with Grams forever, and between Jared and Nathaniel she was never bored. There was always that feeling that she was never good enough to be in either of their lives. They both knew how badly her life had been before she moved in with Grams, hell when Nathan had met her she was a big old bag of bruises, Jared too. Thankfully that was all in the past, and she was never going to have to see the bastard that had done that to her again. Kade Trent had made sure of that, and she was eternally grateful for him. That was why he was walking her down the aisle and giving her away to his little brother.
As much as Randi wanted to admit that the Trent’s were the main people she loved, well she couldn’t. There was another little family that she loved even more than her soon to be extremely large family. Nathan and his little man Drew were her family; after everything that they had been through Randi stuck by their side. She may not be the godmother or have a special title, but she was Aunt Randi. Drew looked up to her, and she would never be able to tell the little boy no. That was why Thursdays were so important to her, and they were going to be important to her for the rest of her life until the little man grew up into a man. Every Thursday, Nathan had to work at some point; Randi knew how much it pained him to go work the long hours that he had to in order to provide for his family. That was why Grams and Randi had always taken Drew as often as they could. Lainey was always around to help when they couldn’t, but Nate was her first boyfriend, the first boy that was able to capture her heart in any way. Yes, from day one her heart belonged to Jared Trent, she was his pretty girl; but Nathaniel Jacobson had been the only person to ever get her heart away from the blonde man that was going to be her husband. So that was what today was going to be! She was going to have Drew to play with and be awesome with, and hopefully Nathan didn’t have to go to work as soon as he dropped him off. She missed spending time with her absolute best friend and the little man that had captured her heart.
The brunette began to ready herself knowing that Drew would be ready to go as soon as he got up. He always had so much energy, and then there was Grams calling up to make sure she was getting in the shower. Randi yelled down at her to say yes she was indeed up and getting ready. The warm water felt good against her extremely tense muscles. Planning a wedding in under a month had taken a toll on the girl, but she was so ready for this. She had waited long enough to call him her own, and she was getting married in two days. She let all of the tension slid from her body as she got out and dried her hair and her body. Finding clothes was another issue, because she had no idea what Drew was going to want to do. If she had anything to do with it she was going to teach him to climb a tree, and Nathan would never know it happened. That is until Drew started doing it himself. She would always take him over to the Trent’s for the magnificent hot choco that her mother-in-law was amazing at making. Soon enough, she heard the car doors opening and then she was sprinting down the stairs to be the one to open the door. She heard the little fist that was no doubt Drew, and she opened the door only to be attached by a hug as soon as she did so. She smiled down as she heard her name, and bent down to wrap her arms around him. “Hey little man! I missed you!” After she spoke, there was the protective daddy telling him to let her walk. She laughed lightly and brought her hazel eyes up to look at Nathan.
Nathan had turned out to be an amazing father, friend, and just a wonderful man. She would have never expected their lives to be where they are now if she had been asked when she was dating Nate. He was one of the only people that understood her and knew everything. She was thankful that Andrea had come into his life and made things better for him, and that she had given him the most amazing son in the entire world. She felt him pull her tight, and she wrapped her arms around him. Nate and Randi hugs were the absolute best things in the entire world, and she was thankful that they had been able to stay in each other’s lives through everything. “Hey Nate. I’m good! I am nervous for Saturday, but it’s right. I have been waiting so long for this.” she smiled at Drew as she spoke next getting down to his level. “You ready to look super duper cute in your little tux on Saturday? and you are totally dancing with Aunt Randi right? I would be sad if you didn’t.” she laughed and hugged him tightly before looking up at Nathan again. “You are dancing with me too mister! I will hurt you otherwise. But besides wedding talk, how have you been? I hardly see you anymore. It makes me sad.”.

"I know you have," Nate smiled lightly, admiring the look of true happiness on his friend's face. "You don't need to worry, everything will go as planned and you're going to look beautiful." He reached his hand to lightly stroke her cheek, before resting it once again on his sons head. Andrew looked up at his aunt, grinning brightly from ear to ear. "I don't know how to dance, aunt randi!" The young boy exclaimed, running further into her home. Nate shook his head and laughed, and entered when Randi gestured for him to do so. "Hey buddy! Come take your shoes off at the door, you know the rules!" His little boy rushed back towards the door and quickly sat on the floor, pulling off his shoes as fast as he could. Andrew tried to run back into the living room, but he noticed his socks were sliding on the hardwood floor. He looked up at Aunt Randi happily, "I love your floor! I can go skating!" Then, he slowly disappeared into the next room leaving the two to laugh together in his absense.
"If I told you I didn't know how to dance either, would that get me out of it?" Nate joked. He knew he would end up dancing with her, it was her wedding after all. She deserved to get everything she wanted out of it. Nate wasn't a big fan of dancing, however, he was actually quite bad at it. Luckily, and hopefully, this would just be swaying back and forth. "And please, like you could do any damage with those tiny ineffectual fists of yours." He told her with a laugh. He kind of loved that Randi was still the same girl he had met all those years ago: the adorable, childish freshman. "Why should we talk about anything but the wedding? Your special day is coming up." He smiled. He couldn't describe how happy he was for her, that she was finally getting her happy ending. It was everything that she deserved after all the shit she had been put through in the past. Andrew was the light at the end of Nate's dark tunnel, and now Randi had a husband. It was crazy how old they seemed, but the high school freshman and sophomore were only in their very early twenties. The two had had to grow up quickly because of their pasts, however, so it was only fitting that all of this had gone on already.
"I'm alright. I'm working a lot more than I would like." Nate told her honestly, his smiling fading for the first time in their conversation. Nathan worked most days of the week to be able to provide for his small family. He knew it was what he needed to do, but he didn't like to be away from his little boy at all. It was hard when he didn't have a mother to be with him when Nathan wasn't there, like in most families. He was forever grateful to Randi, and to his godmother Lainey, for taking him in when Nathan couldn't be at home with him though. Those two women truely meant the world to him, and to his young son. He knew his son was going to develop quite the ego from being around them so much though, seeing as how they thought the absolute world of Andrew and told him how incredible he was daily. He was sure Andrea would have done the same. "I really appreciate you doing this for me, Randi, I know you must have a lot of last minute stuff to do this week."
