The young blonde took a step back, looking at herself in her full length mirror that stood in her bedroom. This was a casual kind of date, but it was a date all the same and she wanted to make sure that she looked nice for this young man that she had taken a liking to via internet conversation. There were a ton of things that could be pointed at and frowned upon in that one sentence alone, as there were tons of dangers found in meeting people online and actually agreeing to meet with them. However, Gabe was a local boy and Mykayla thought that she could almost place him, like they had maybe met before but only in passing. Either way, Kay was one of the most sensible, logically minded girls you’ll ever meet and she saw no harm in going out on this little date that she and this young man had arranged. She needed this, if not as a distraction from her school work, her health, and her overbearing brother, then from other aspects of her failed love life that had developed just recently. Pleased with her outfit and her cute up do she had done with her blonde curls, Kay grabbed a coat, her bag, and her car keys before heading out to meet Gabriel.
They were to meet at Arietta’s local animal shelter, a place that was sure to break Mykayla’s heart. She was such an animal lover, and would love to adopt each and every single creature inside of the establishment but knowing that she couldn’t just made her so sad. She really hoped that Gabe could offer her some support and some strength to go through with this, because otherwise she was just going to be so torn. From the sounds of it, he was quite the animal lover as well so they might have some issues in here, but Kay hoped that it was as fun as it sounded like it could be. She parked her little car in front of the shelter and then got out to reenter the cool January air. Her blue eyes searched, and found the young man that she very much believed to be none other than Gabriel, and she approached with a bright smile on her lips. “Gabe?” she asked, peering at him and hoping that she had the right person. As luck would have it, it was indeed the right man and she smiled even more, delighted to find him so easily. “Hi! It’s nice to meet you in person,” she greeted in her normal, happy and optimistic tone of voice, accompanied by a little giggle. He was tall and lean, and actually attractive in that oh-so-cute kind of way. “So, you think we’re ready for this?” she asked, knowing that their task ahead seemed almost daunting, but it was sure to be fun, too, if they managed to walk out of the animal shelter without ten new pets each.

A date, Gabriel Morgan had officially landed a date with a girl, and he actually asked her. It was hard for him to do such a thing, he was usually such an awkward boy, never could he build up the courage to ask someone those questions. It was true, every girl made him nervous, lately he had been getting the most attention from pretty girls, Evan and Mykayla were the first two that really paid any attention to him. He wasn't sure why the two of them did, but he wasn't going to ask them that question since they may change their mind about him sooner or later. He had been friends with Evan for a while, so it explains why she would take pity on him, but Mykayla was a different story. From what he knew, she was a pretty blonde girl that had been in one of his classes, never someone he'd converse with, due to the fact that she seemed so far out of his league. So he'd admit, he wasn't a looker, nor was he a stud, or a smooth talker, truthfully he had nothing going for him, but it seemed his awkwardness had landed him this date. Oh right, he had no idea how to act on a date, if he was supposed to show up early, if he was supposed to not wear jeans, god he had never really done this before. He was taking her out to dinner, but first they were going to the shelter to see if they could find a puppy. Seemed like a coupley thing to do, though it seemed that animal loving was something they both had in common.
Gabriel liked this girl more and more as he spoke to her, she didn't really seem like she was out to get sex from him, nor was she just trying to pity him. She seemed to actually like him, and he literally jumped for joy on that one. Anyway, getting back to him getting ready, he picked out his clothing carefully, a button-up shirt would do for now and jeans, of course. Once he saw himself in the mirror, he frowned lightly, ruffling up his hair to try and at least make himself look presentable. When it seemed like it was good enough, he grabbed his jacket and his keys, he was out the door and down the stairs quickly, excited about this whole adventure. He was excited for more than a few reasons, one being that he was probably getting a new puppy today, another being that he got a date with a beautiful girl, and another that this girl was serious about giving him a chance. His stomach was filled with butterflies as he grabbed his helmet, oh that was another thing most didn't know about him. The motorcycle, it was because he really couldn't afford a car with all his school bills being left up to him, but according to some this was what attracted women. He hadn't really impressed anyone by riding a motorcycle, but he figured that if he was a bit more muscular and looked nicer, well girls would just flock to him.
Shrugging all of that out of his mind, he was off to meet his dream girl, or well who he hoped was his dream girl. Meeting online, it was never safe and he knew that she was probably going through the same thing in her head as well. Though, Gabe could of swore he had seen her around before, most likely on campus somewhere, since the school really wasn't too big. Pulling up, he parked in one of the spots, not wanting to go in yet since he had no idea who he was looking for. he took his helmet off, and placed it on his bike, moving to the front of the doors and leaning on the building. He was basing this all on the picture he saw, and was really looking for a blonde girl, a few of those walked past him. None of them were her though, he just had one of those senses, plus he noticed that the blonde he was looking for had beautiful clear blue eyes. He turned when he heard his name, his mouth falling open a bit at the female in front of him. "No way... I mean... er... Hey! Mykayla, right?" Great, the first words out of his mouth and he was embarrassing himself already. "Sorry! You're just... really really beautiful, and well I didn't expect it, wait... that sounded bad, I just... erg... you're just beautiful, that's the final verdict, and this is for you." There went the awkward thing he always did, but he put his hand out to shake hers, as if this was a good greeting. He also held out a rose, just a single red one, something like a first meeting gift, he was taught that it was a gentlemen thing to do.
Yes, he much rather hug her, but he felt like this was the right way to introduce himself. "It's really nice to meet you too." He smiled, one of those goofy smiles that would probably remain on his face this whole time. He rubbed the back of his head in thought at her next question, trying to figure out if they were indeed ready for this adventure. "Well, guess we'll find out right." He now put his hand out to her again, this time to escort her inside of the doors, hoping that she would take it. Was it forward? Gosh, he hoped not, he was just trying to be nice. note: so it seems i suck at mini-threads, and end up just rambling, sorry! XD

Mykayla was just glad to have this opportunity to go out and actually do something. She knew in the back of her mind that she should have stayed home and caught up on her schoolwork, as she was desperately behind and the professors were only going to be so lenient with her for so long. It was just that she didn’t feel like she got this kind of time to just go out and do things for herself anymore, what with either trying to go to school on her good days, being at the hospital what seemed like every other day, and trying to people please her way through her remaining time so no one started asking questions, it didn’t feel like she got the proper time to just breathe. Gabriel had presented her with the opportunity to do something that wasn’t already planned out for her, or something that she had to do. He was giving her a fun, random kind of afternoon and that was something that she felt like she could really use after how the last couple of weeks had gone for her. She was grateful to him for wanting to take her out on date without ever really knowing all that much about her. Maybe the same could be said about her, but he seemed so kind and charming in their conversation, the kind of guy that would be sweet and considerate. Really, he was going to an animal shelter to look at puppies with her. How could she go wrong with a guy like that? There was a voice in the back of her mind that warned her not to be too trusting, though, and it was understandable after a man that had seemed sweet and all Kay could have ever wanted had beat her to a pulp for saying no when he had asked for more than what she was comfortable with.
But, she was the kind of girl that looked for the best in people, trusting until she was given a reason not to. And really, his response when she first met him gave her no reason at all to not trust him. He was stumbling over his words, Kay laughing because he was just so precious in her eyes. She felt a bit of heat rise to her otherwise pale cheeks when he complimented her, and she was sure that the surprise showed in her bright blue eyes when he extended both a hand and a single red rose to her. “Oh my goodness! Gabe, you didn’t have to give me anything.” But she took the rose and shook his hand, gazing up at him in amazement. Was this guy for real? Kay couldn’t remember the last time that a man had taken her out on a date and given her flowers like this. She liked the cute little smile that came to his lips when he said it was nice to meet her as well. Mykayla could tell that he was trying, genuinely trying and worried about her opinion of him. It was so refreshing, as opposed to those guys that just knew they were all that and made asses of themselves doing their own form of trying to impress a girl. Next, he was offering his hand to her again, them both ready to head inside and get out of the chilly air. It was just so cute, and she couldn’t resist. Mykayla took his hand, smiling up at him before they made their way into the animal shelter and were led back to where they would find themselves knee deep in puppies that were so heartbreakingly cute. “Oh, I just want to smuggle them all out inside of my jacket. Yours too!” she said, shooting a playful look his way but lord, the puppies were just so dang cute!
“Why did we do this to ourselves? We know we aren’t going to be able to pick just one.” She looked over at Gabe, thinking that this was truly, truly an impossible feat and that they were in for something of a challenge. But, at the same time, she was glad that she was here with him, and she giggled when one of the little pups started demanding her attention and licked her, Kay stooping down to pick the little monster up only for it to lick at her face, causing her to laugh some more.

School had always been important to Gabe, he went to college for a reason and he was making sure that he still had something set in his mind. No matter that business was not what he wanted to major in, he still needed to make something out of it. He learned a lot in the field, knew how to create a business and be able to control it, he was pretty sure that's why he agreed to help out Evan. She had a business, and it was a great chance to put his skills to the test, which may impress her but he wasn't even trying for that. Gabriel was indeed an awkward boy, Mykayla probably knew that by now, since he had been quite awkward in front of her already. It was all really just because he never had experience talking to girls, he was the nerd in high school, the one who always kept to himself. The one that got the wedgies, the one who got shoved into lockers, he was pretty used to all that stuff, but those days were way behind him. But, that didn't change the fact that Gabe had no female interaction in his book, there were a few girls but it wasn't like he scored a date to go to prom. Yes, poor kid didn't even attend prom, but here he was standing with a stunning blonde who he wished he met sooner. Kayla seemed different, she was sweet and kind, and just... perfect in his eyes.
The way her eyes sparkled, and the way her cheeks turned red, just made him want to compliment her more. She was adorable, and pretty at the same time, and yes all of that was possible, at least to Gabe. "What? Oh! It's not much at all... sorry, I was staring, your eyes seem to sparkle when you blush." He commented, before shaking her hand in greeting. He was already messing up a bit, though at least it wasn't as much as he thought he would. He did his best not to panic, and just kept looking at her, though that was making his words harder to get out. As she took his hand, a broad smile lit his face up, he hadn't expected her to actually take it. Excited, he interlaced their fingers, leading her inside of the shelter with that same smile. It was nice, how their hands fit perfectly together. He didn't release her hand until they had gotten perfect view of the puppies, and his face softened even more now. "This isn't going to be easy." He spoke up, looking at all the puppies, and laughing at her words. It was true, if he could he would adopt them all, just so they'd have a home. He couldn't handle all of them though, his apartment was way too small, so one would have to do, or maybe two. He leaned over to whisper in her ear, "How many do you think we can fit in our jackets?" He joked, but he also inhaled the perfume she was wearing. He lingered for a moment before standing back up straight, eyes to the puppies and leaning down a bit to pet the ones that jumped to him.
They were indeed harming themselves with this, since they couldn't take home all of them, they'd most likely be here for a while. He expected to spend at least an hour here, maybe they'd stop back home and he'd just cook dinner for her. That was a good way to impress a girl, by showing off some cooking skills, but... his apartment wasn't really that impressive. He thought about that for a moment, than heard her speak up. "That's true, but maybe we'll be able to pick two... or three, maybe we'll just have to share, I think that sounds like a much better idea." He nodded, moving to stand behind her and pet the small puppy from over her shoulder. "Hey little guy." He smiled, this one seemed to like her, he noticed the way the small puppy was licking at her face and just cuddling into her arms. "Seems you have two admirers here!" He nodded, before looking down at the one jumping at his feet. He leaned down once more, picking up one of them and holding him out for a moment to get a good look at him. "Well hey the-" He stopped his sentence when he noticed his shirt was wet, which caused him to close his eyes. Oh, just great, you're on a date and a puppy pees on you, that was not a good sign. He didn't have a change of clothing, all he had was this jacket and this shirt, and stripping in front of her... was not really an option. It seemed like it was going to have to be, since he didn't want to stand here smelling like puppy pee. "And... it seems this guy likes me a bit too much." He just tried to laugh it off, placing him down and looking down at his shirt. Great... beautiful girl standing next to him and he gets peed on by a puppy, he wasn't sure what to do, other than take the shirt off. No, there had to be another way, there just had to be.

There was really no telling why the blonde haired beauty had gotten it into her head that she wanted a puppy all of a sudden. Mykayla Trent had always been an avid animal lover, always interested and always begging Mom or Dad for some new kind of creature to call her own. When she was younger, the answer had always been no, as it had been hard enough for her parents to take care of their four children. Feeding a dog or a cat as well had been out of the question, but then things had gotten easier for the family and Kay had gotten herself the best little collie puppy that she could have ever imagined owning. Jane had been her name, and that dog followed Mykayla everywhere. They had really been an adorable site to see, and had been inseparable all the way through Kay’s junior year of high school. The collie had been struck by a car, and there was nothing that the local veterinarian had been able to do for her. So, they had put her down and buried her out in the backyard, and Mykayla hadn’t had a dog since. Now, for the last two weeks, she had seemed to be on a puppy hunt. Making up her mind was going to be impossible, and it was something that seemed even more difficult now that she was faced with a tone of cute puppies that were all so deserving of loving families and homes. How did a person pick just one?
Gabriel seemed to have the same thoughts. Mykayla had no idea how many of the puppies they could try to smuggle out of the shelter, but she had this doubt that their plan of doing so would actually work. They might get to the door before one of their pockets started barking, and then it would all be over. They were just going to have to be tough and decisive. She did have faith in Gabe, though. He seemed like a really nice, logical kind of guy that would be able to do this even if he doubted himself. Mykayla still couldn’t believe how sweet and charming her date was, and his awkwardness was so adorable that she just wanted to scoop him up in her arms. Really, what kind of a guy admits that he was staring because she was beautiful, or says things like her eyes sparkle when she blushes? It was all just such a pleasant change in pace, as she hadn’t seen him ogle her chest or say anything suggestive once. Kay barely knew this guy, but it was just in the way that he was standing there with her, petting the puppies and being just as swept up by them as she was. She was still laughing at the adorable little pup that was licking her face, only to glance over and see the misfortune that had befallen Gabe. Oh no! “Oh Gabe,” she said, really just trying to not laugh at the man standing beside of her and also trying to figure if there was any way to really fix this. “And I’m going to guess that you don’t have a change of clothes with you…” Kay hadn’t seen what kind of vehicle he had brought, but she doubted most men had clothes in their cars like she did. Then She eyed the little puppy in her hands before setting him down as well, thinking it might be best to not hold the little monsters after all. Kay turned back to Gabe. “I really wish there was a good way to fix this! I know I have nothing in my car, though.” She offered a smile up at him, hoping that he wasn’t too mortified and would be able to laugh it off with her. After all, things happen and she wasn’t going to hold this against him at all.

There wasn't much about Gabriel that was mysterious, he was one of those quiet boys who would sit in the back of the class and didn't want to be noticed. Though, his grades stayed high, and his parents pushed him towards going for business, he had problems saying no. Maybe it was one reason why he never dated someone, since he'd be like their lap dog and just say yes to everything. He did make friends though, nerds like him but they were never females. That was until Evan and Feia, the two that caused him to realize that it wasn't so hard to just talk to girls. He started talking to Kay like it was nothing, though his insides were screaming at him to turn the other way and run now. There was also Brittany, who he befriended and got along with just fine, maybe he was doing well at this. Making friends was the easy part though, took him about a week to ask Kay out like this, and it wasn't really a date... since they were just going puppy hunting. He didn't want to put a label on it, because if this went wrong, he didn't want to be remembered as the guy who brought her on a horrible date.
Gabe had always wanted to pet of his own, ever since he moved into his own apartment. He noticed just how lonely that place could be at night, and decided that it was about time he'd get some sort of animal. He started looking for puppies, but always got stuck on which one to choose, much like Kay it seemed. They had a few things in common, saying no to cute faces happened to be one. It was a good fact to have in common as well, it obviously meant that they both have a heart somewhere. It wasn't really normal for Gabe to just open up to people, he normally just went on rambling about something and it drove away girls. Kay had said it was cute, which was a new thing to him, only one who said that was Evan and that was just because she's his good friend. He was caught off guard by her looks when he came face to face with her, he didn't expect her to be breathtaking. Now, he wasn't someone to fall in love easy, but he could feel something between the two of them. It may just be his mind picturing things, but there was something there, he hoped. The way their hands fit together, how soft her skin felt, oh god he didn't want to start having fantasies about her or anything. "So, tell me something about yourself!" Deciding on small talk as they walked into the building, he wanted to learn more about her, in the least awkward way as well. That was until he had his mishap with the puppy, and didn't know what to do.
It seemed like there was no option for Gabe right now, the shirt needed to be left behind. He looked at Mykayla for a moment, as if telling her that he was going to need to strip. "Er... well..." He looked down at all the adorable faces staring at him, laughing at the one who just peed on him. He seemed to want to be held again, Gabe may just have a winner on his hands. He couldn't help but laugh though, since it was indeed rather funny. "Sorry Kay, seems... this may get just a bit awkward." He warned, since he wasn't the best looking male out there. He didn't have a six pack, nor did he even have a two pack, just skinny body. So, this was indeed going to be a tough one, for him to be stripping or for him to just keep on the shirt. He removed his jacket, placing it on a table near by, turned his back to her and removed the shirt. He turned to grab his jacket once more, obviously exposing himself to Mykayla, but honestly he didn't really feel as embarrassed as he was before. But, it was still there, and he was worried about what she was thinking now. He placed his jacket on and made sure that he was covered, trying his best to laugh it off. "Well... looks like I found my choice." He laughed, leaning down to the little one that had peed on him. He was a cute little puppy, looked like he was a mix breed, with a little piece of his ear missing at the side. "He seems to be a fighter." Gabe nodded, before looking up at Mykayla. "What do you think, beautiful?" He smiled softly at her, as if trying to win her over, even if he knew a smile wouldn't. "Do you mind if we just stop at my place on our way to dinner? I don't think they'll allow me in like this." he pointed to himself and rubbed the back of his neck rather embarrassed still. Maybe while they were at his place, he could convince her that he'd just cook her dinner, good way to show off. Maybe he was thinking far too much into this, or maybe he was just loving her minute by minute.

When Mykayla had been stretched out across her couch earlier that day, she had thought that would she would be able to tell you with amazing accuracy how the rest of her day would have gone. She would have completed the homework for that god awful math class that she was taking, eventually, and then she probably would have dozed off while watching some fruitless show on TV. Then, later on, her older brother Kade would have come over after his shift at the marina was finished, and he would have proceeded to make her dinner. That seemed to be their routine more often than not anymore, Kade worrying himself to death over Mykayla and Kay having no choice but to let him baby her since she was the one that had dragged him into her mess. He would have eventually left, going out to do his own thing and leaving Mykayla there for a quiet evening, which was really how most of her evenings had been lately. She had never dreamed that she would find someone to chat with, and that this someone would happen to be a sweet young man that would ask her out on a date of sorts. It was exciting, and though she had mixed reasons and feelings for going out with Gabe, she was glad that she had agreed. After all, he was incredibly cute and not just any guy would have gotten her a rose. And he just seemed genuinely interested, which was more than what Mykayla had been expecting. She was still such a modest girl, and really didn’t know why any guy would look at her the way that Gabriel seemed to. He was even inviting her to say something about herself, and Kay smiled to herself as she thought of something to say.
“Um, well I grew up in Arietta but you probably already realized that,” she started, still racking her brain for something mildly interesting about herself. “I have three older brothers and a younger sister.... My favorite color is blue, and while I adore puppies, I really, really love horses.” She giggled a little as she spoke, knowing she was just naming some of the most random things about herself but that was the whole point, right? To figure out little things about each other and see if there was anything here? “And what about you mister actor gone business major?” She recalled some of the information that he had previously shared, and used it to keep that bit of the conversation going. Things were going rather well too until poor Gabe picked up a puppy that got a little too excited. She looked at him with just slight confusion as he said it was going to be awkward, but then she realized what he had meant when he removed his jacket and turned to take off the shirt. Mykayla, modest and shy to these kinds of things as she was, averted her blue eyes, looking at the puppies until he spoke again. She was surprised to see Gabe pick the puppy back up, but she smiled and was excited that he had found a puppy! He asked Kay what she thought, and she stepped closer to him to scratch the pup behind his ears. “I think he’s precious,” she cooed at the little dog, but her mind still processing the fact that this boy could be so awkward, but at the same time so free with his compliments that he was also kind of precious.
Kay looked back to Gabe when he asked about stopping by his house before dinner, and again she would answer him wearing a light and easy smile on her lips. “Oh, of course not! You need a change of clothes, and something to do with this little guy,” she said, motioning to the puppy. That was, if Gabe planned on taking the pup home with him then. “And I’m in no hurry. You have me for the whole evening, or as long as you want me,” she added with a little playful grin. Mykayla wasn’t the kind of girl to be forward or obviously suggestive at all, but she did know how to flirt and play just a little, and although she hadn’t exactly meant to with Gabe, it was just so darn difficult not to.
