There was absolutely nothing better than a snowy day in Jared’s mind. Sure, he liked the summer when he could go out and play in the water, whether that be at the beach or on a sail boat, but he especially loved winter time. The cold never got to him, just like a child that insisted that they weren’t cold even when their lips were turning blue and their teeth were chattering. Jared might be twenty-three years old, but he was still very much in touch with his inner child like that and was outside most days from daylight until dark. He was an active type, getting restless and bored very easily if his video games didn’t manage to catch his interest that day. That was why working at the marina suited Jared so well. There was always something that needed to be done, and mostly all year round. However, the last couple of days had been kind of slow and Jared had wondered up and down the docks, checking slips and trying to find anything to do that would occupy his time and his idle hands. That was the only thing about living in a small town like Arietta. There were these periods of time when it was really just slow and there wasn’t a lot for a marina worker to do. It would pick back up soon enough, it always did, but that left Jared with extra days off where he had to find things to do.
Today, though, he had plenty to do. He was excited from the moment that he woke up, hopping out of bed and heading for the upstairs bathroom to get showered and ready. The one hitch in that simple plan was reaching for the bathroom door only for it to open, a girl stepping out in nothing but a towel and her damp hair clinging to her face and neck as she looked up at him with a small, somewhat embarrassed smile. Jared’s jaw dropped, his light eyes lingering on her for only a moment. “Um, good morning.” “Morning, Jared. I’m Rachel, Kade’s friend?” Jared remembered Rachel. She had been in school with him, one year ahead in Kade’s grade. She worked as a waitress now, but apparently she had come into the house at some point last night with Kade. “Yeah, I remember. Kade obviously remembered too…” She shrugged and then walked passed him, leaving Jared somewhat dumbfounded there in the doorway. Kade had only been back in town for a couple of days, and he was already slumming it with the likes of Rachel? Jared shook his head, trying not to get involved in his older brother’s business no matter how much his disagreed with it. Nothing, not even Kade, was going to get in the way of today’s epicness, and Jared continued about his was as planned. He got ready and then dressed up in all the warm clothing that he owned. Then he was out the door of the small, one story home that he and his brother shared and down the road to the Trent Bed and Breakfast.
Jared pulled up to the small inn, seeing a few cars in the lot and knowing that his parents must be inside, busy with customers. The front yard was tastefully decorated for the holidays, Marion a woman that loved Christmas and all the preparation. Jared knew it was where he got his hatred for idle hands form, as Marion was always up and doing something. Otherwise, she just wasn’t happy. Jared found a spot in the side yard and threw down his bag, for all of all the materials that he and his friend, Randi, would need for this day of epicness. He didn’t do things half assed, and he had certainly come prepared for this. He grinned as he pulled everything out, the shovels and the block shapers, and then he went around back for to the storage building where he pulled out an old kiddy pool that they would need to help shape and support the roof of this thing. Oh yeah, he was really ready for this. He just hoped that Randi was in the mood for some serious igloo making, because Jared was so, so ready. He started to kick the snow with his boots, marking out the space that would be the home of their latest creation.

Randi had always been that girl that loved the simple things in life; and growing up in Philedalphia had proven to give her little splendors. The first tile she had experienced snow and actually played in it was amazing. It was then and there that she vowed to stay where there was always snow. So when she moved in with Grams at fourteen, well it was easy to say that the girl was pleased. She adored going outside and catching snowflakes on her tongue, getting into snowball fights, and doing anything else that her little heart desired. It was no wonder though that for her next daring task for snow she had enlisted her best friend Jared to help her build an igloo. In all the time she had spent with him, she was amazed that the igloo had never came to their minds. Then again they were always too busy doing other things line causing snowball fights with Kade, Hunter, Amy and the rest of the clan. But Jared and Randi were the instegators. It was how they rolled, and none of the others seemed to mind whenever they were doing something stupid.
So as Randi readied herself, she was most looking forward to just seeing him. It had been forever or at least it just seemed like forever to her since the last time she had seen him. Apparently Kaler thought it was okay to steal her partner in crime whenever there was mischief to be had. These two were always planning something, like the nanny cams that were soon to be planted everywhere they could think of to see what would happen to Kade as soon as Britt found out he was back in town. Randi was not about to niss the epicness that was going to be Kade getting a vernal lashing for the books. But that was mischief that would be had a different day, today was all about causing trouble outside and building the damn igloo. Randi dressed herself in several layers even busting out her under armour, and putting on a few shirts before her sweatshirt she had stolen off Jared months ago and her winter coat. She was finally all bundled up and she made her way down the stairs and kissed Grams on the cheek and bolted out the front door.
Driving to the b&b always was an adventure, but finding parking was a hassle. But she spotted Jared' car and parked beside it like she always did. She wondered how long he had been there but she walked over to examine the boy kicking snow around. He was so ready for this that it was a bit ridiculous. She smiled as she pulled her beanie on her head and over her ears. Her hair being pulled tightly against her neck doing so. The last thing she needed was to get sick, but she knew that her nose would soon be turning bright red like it always did. She was always told it was cute, but that was Jared. He would never insult his pretty girl, and for that she was thankful. Randi began taking in the scene and realized that they were going to have thwir hands full in making this igloo, but she was getting to spend quality time woth Jared. That is what mattered to her, especially since she had always had a crush on the boy. He was quite a few years older than her, but that never seemed to matter because he acted like a five year old. It was just how he was, it was to be expected. So she grabbed him in a quick hug and proceeded to work on this brilliant idea of hers.
After hours of diligently working, and a snowball fight with Amy later, the igloo was finally finished. She smiled at Jared and was so damn excited about that she was the first one in it. She was acting like she was the five year old now, but she had worked hard to make something. She was actually proud that it didn't fall apart. When he finally climbed in after her she spoke soflty "well we did good. It didn't take that long to do either. But if memory serves me correctly you owe me a Christmas present mister. You should hand it over, because I want it. I can't wait much longer. Seeing as how I have missed you so damn much! How did Peyton's room turn out anyways?"
she smiled brightly and then took her gloved had and tried to warm her nose up. It was awful cold outside and even in the igloo. But spending time with him just made it all worth while. She adored him but she could never tell if he liked her as more than just his partner in crime or not. The two of them wer e just perfect and she wondered how long it would take him to figure it out. To say that Jared was overly prepared for this was a bit of an understatement. The only reason that most twenty-three-year-olds would have this kind of equipment ready for use would be because they had young children already, ones that would expect their awesome fathers to be out there in the cold and make them the coolest igloo ever. Other guys Jared’s age were out working, in school, or just had a lot of better things to do than be out doing something like this, but it was Jared. He and his brothers and close friends were known for going out and doing stupid little things just for the hell of it, but Jared always, always enjoyed every single second of whatever they were doing. He had never lost touch with his inner child, and still acted like a five-year-old a lot of the time. So what if what he was doing was supposedly below him and his current age group? Jared surely didn’t give a shit about stupid things like that. He lived his life how he wanted to live it, and he was having one hell of a good time with it too. There was no need to be so serious about things all the time, so adult and doing stupid adult things that made life so complicated. Of course Jared was rational and he approached situations with an adult mind that was capable of making decisions and taking on responsibilities, but for everything else, he was very much in his own little world. People often didn’t know what to think of him, but they were used to him and the odd, out there kind of things he did no longer surprised them. Just like how no one would be surprised in the slightest when they looked out and saw him building an igloo in the snow; it was just something that they knew they could expect from the likes of Jared Trent.
And, of course they couldn’t forget Jared’s ever present sidekick. Miranda James had moved to Arietta around six years ago, and from day one they had seemed to be attached at the hip. Of course, Jared’s initial attraction to the girl had been her beauty, and Jared had been seventeen. He was going to take notice of the new girl, and in typical Jared style, he was going to find out everything about her that he possibly could. But something about Randi had stuck, made it impossible for him to only just want to get to know her. He needed to know her, and they had just seemed to have so much in common that it made sense for them to become best friends and hardly ever be apart. Rumors swirled about relationships and romances and everything else, but Randi and Jared had somehow rose above that and maintained the perfect friendship for so long that now it was as easy as breathing to be together. It had only recently occurred to Jared that things could have gone a lot differently a long time ago if one of them would have opened their mouth and changed it, and it only occurred to him because of an epic moment of realization he had had one evening while they had been out just talking and wondering around town, happy as two people could possibly be in each other’s company. He had debated the situation, played the different outcomes out in his head over and over, and in the end he had known what he had to do. Jared just hoped that Randi went for it and that this didn’t put a chink in this perfect thing they had going for them. And, even if she shot it down, Jared could easily play it off as nothing. It would hurt, but he could handle it. You know, and then dissolve into a sloppy, emotional mess later when Randi wasn’t around.
Anyway, Jared had a plan for this, and he thought it was pretty good. That wasn’t saying a lot because some of his “pretty good” plans backfired on him horribly, but he was going to say that this one was almost foolproof. He was smiling to himself over it as he continued to kick the snow, probably overdoing it and making this thing bigger than what they could possibly make it, but that was okay. Randi soon arrived, and when she did she ran up to him and gave him a big hug, Jared scooping her up in his arms and spinning her around once. “There you are, pretty girl! I thought you were never going to get here!” He teased her a little more before they set to work on this amazing thing that would be their epic igloo. They had so much fun with it, Jared using his nifty gadget to shape out perfect cubes of snow and them arranging them accordingly. He did have to throw the occasional snow ball and his best friend, and he also had to take a break to make a snow angel, but eventually the igloo had been successfully constructed. It didn’t even seem scary, and it was actually safe to crawl into without the fear of the roof collapsing and caving in on them. Jared could see the excitement in Randi’s face, and watched as she crawled into the igloo, the first one in after it was completed. Jared started after her, stopping only to pat his chest pocket to make sure that Randi’s present was still there before getting down on all fours and joining her inside of the coolest igloo ever. He sat Indian style, looking around the igloo and grinned up at the kiddy pool that was their roof support. Then Randi started talking, and Jared’s bright eyes automatically went to her.
He couldn’t help but to chuckle when she called him out on her Christmas present; Jared should have known that a girl as persistent as Randi wouldn’t forget something like that. “Aw, I’ve missed you too, and Peyton’s room turned out really well. I think she’ll like it. Kaler seems pretty excited about it. He’s really doing a good thing for her.” Which was odd, as Kaler was usually that guy that most people thought of as arrogant and conceited, but he was really the opposite. Some days. “But okay, time for your present! Close your eyes.” When Randi did as she was told, Jared unzipped his jacket a little ways and reached for his inside pocket, producing nothing more than a bow that he had stolen from his mother’s gift wrapping kit. He stuck it to the front of his coat, patting it a couple of times to make sure it would stay and then looked back to Randi, telling her it was okay to open her eyes. She was probably expecting something to be in his hands, and would most likely be confused by the bow on him, but Jared just grinned as he moved and scooted a little closer to her. “I like you, pretty girl. Actually, I’m pretty sure that it’s a more than like situation at this point, but I didn’t want to freak you out. So, if you want me, I’m all yours.” There were probably more eloquent ways to say something like that. Jared could have thought of some kind of epically epic speech, but that wasn’t how Jared did things. He said what was on his mind, and he knew that if he had tried to prepare this, it would have flopped. “And yes, I am being very serious. No joking or pranking about it.”

now when Randi had first graced Jared's presence that afternoon, she had expected the usual. Low and behold he was standing around kicking the snow around with his feet and planning the most epic snow masterpiece that the two of them had discovered yet. Now the brunette knew that as much as this was for the two of them, she was certain that there would be other children in the b&b over christmas that it would work out. But it was typical for anyone and everyone that knew the two of them that they would be doing something like this. She smiled brightly whenever he noticed her standing over him, and then his arms quickly wrapped around her and she was up and swinging. Jared spun her around once, and they were set to begin working on their snow masterpiece for the day.
Every time that Miranda was around Jared her skin got chills and it was easy for her to understand why. Randi had a crush on the blonde man before her forever. Since she had moved to Arietta six years ago she had always taken notice of the senior who had bothered to notice her the first day. He had called her pretty girl, and she had never thought twice about it. She was his pretty girl, and she always taunted him about being her jer-bear. Of course she knew better than to say that outside of them being together. She had adored the fact that he was always there for her and was permanentley attached to her hip. If one of them concocted a crazy ass plan then it was the others duty to be there to help. So when her genius struck for the igloo well Jared was automatically assumed to be joining her. It was a simple understanding because they were perfect for each other in every sense of the word.
Jared and Randi had it about them that they were always down, and more than anything Randi wanted him to get it together and realize that she was mad about him . He was the only one who understood her and did not mind about her crazy background. He took her and her childish nature as she was. He never judged her and he always managed to be there when her world was falling apart. When he had walked into her life it was like he was air. She could not imagine her life without him now, and she never wanted to find out. Sure there had been rumors about the two of them always flying around. It was how the two of them worked, but in the same token she had always known that eventually he would find his way to loving her. At least that was always what she had hoped for. It was what she had always wanted, and these thoughts were running through her head as they proceeded to build their igloo. Throwing snowballs at each other, and even making snow angels that were always side by side.
When she finally was in the igloo she was so excited. Their kiddie pool igloo was amazing, and anyone could appreciate this. Sometimes their ideas worked out for the best, like the fort that they had built a week or so ago at the b&b. It was typical for them to build something completely ridiculous and then everyone else enjoyed it. This igloo was going to be the home for some snowman that Amy was forcing her brother into building with her. But her devious mind had created an idea to throw snowballs ay her instead. But that was not why she was sitting in the igloo. She had thought about just telling him how she felt about him because it was too much waiting. She had hoped that her I'm had actually hinted at the fact that she had wanted him. She had wanted him to be her own, but it never seemed that he understood. They shared so many sexual inuendos, but Randi had never done anything. She was a good girl who did not fool around or sleep around. She wanted it to be special with someone that she really loved more than anything, but maybe it was the fact that she was really just waiting for Jared to just realize. But then he climbed into the igloo and her mouth went to the christmas present she was not wanting to wait for it. She listened to him talk about Kaler and Peyton, and it brought a smile to her face. "well that is good. Now Kaler can stop trying to steal you away from me. But at least Peyton is going to feel welcome in his home more than she already did. So it works, and Kaler is not an awful guy, I like him."
it was true how she spoke about Kaler; she really did like him. He was a good guy, and she could see through him being conceited but that was not the point of today. Whenever Jared said about her Christmas present she clapped her hands excitedly, but then he said to close her eyes. She raised an eyebrow at him, but that was what she did. She listened to him, and she wanted to try and figure out what he had wanted to give her. It was Jared so it was going to be something good, but she kept her fingers on her nose as she waited for the okay to open her eyes. When her hazel eyes opened, she noticed a little bow on his shoulder. The only thought going through her mind was what is he doing? Randi had no idea what the blonde boy had in mind for her, but there he was. Sitting before her and then his lips started to move. He was her christmas present, and he liked her. Randi was confused because this had just come completely out of the blue. She was stunned, and then she figured it was just him playing a prank on her, and that was quickly put aside as he said he was totally serious. A smile played across her lips as she realized that he basically said that he loved her. This was actually happening, and she slid closer to the boy who had completely captured her hear. She let her eyes dance with excitement before speaking softly. " so are you saying that you are in love with me, Jared Trent? Because if you are then it took you long enough. I have only been waiting for years for you to realize I am head over heels in love with you. I can't imagine my life without you. So of course I want you boyfriend." and with her little speach concluded she let her lips gently brush against his. It was like sparks flew whenever her lips caught his. It was finally right in the world. [/blockquote]

So maybe Jared should have gotten Randi a real Christmas present. He had thought about that momentarily on the way over here, thinking that it probably would have been nice of him to consider some pretty little piece of jewelry or something to go with this idea of a relationship that he was proposing, but Jared hadn’t. He had just been so damn excited, so ready for this part of things to just happen already that there hadn’t been another thought in his head except for Randi, and how close he was to actually being able to call her his. Yes, Jared was a sappy, romantic type like that, and he always had been. He as that guy that wasn’t afraid of his feelings, and would be right there crying with the girls on every single chick flick that they popped into the DVD player. He believed in love and the powers it had over a human being; he believed that there was absolutely just one person in this world that was meant for him, and he knew without a doubt that that person was Randi. In way, Jared thought that he had always kind of known it. From the very start there had just been something about her that made him attach himself more tightly to her than anyone else. She was beautiful, and smart, and just as crazy as he was but all in a very good way. She was just…that girl. The one that he could count on to always be there, regardless of what kind of stupid ass plan he had devised. And, when moments came in life that were difficult to handle, like Kade’s departure a year ago, Britt losing her baby and the death of her younger brother, Randi was always the one that was there to hold his hand. Why it had taken Jared this long to realize that he was in love with this girl, he had no idea. Everyone else had seemed to know, had just assumed that he and Randi were together but didn’t come out and say it officially, but that was never how it had been.
Jared had dated other woman over the last six years, that was just natural. Others found his insane and childlike ways endearing and loved that he could make them laugh. And, apparently his looks weren’t too bad either. He was quite the catch in a small town like Arietta, but even so he hadn’t been with any of those other women for long. Some obviously wouldn’t stick from the start, but Jared was male and their were other things that he was attracted to than just personality at times. Those ones never lasted long, as Jared would get tired of the superficial girls, but other relationships that could have possibly amounted to something never stayed intact long either. Something would always be missing, or they would grow jealous of how close he and Miranda were. Jared had always let them go, telling himself that if it had been meant to be, it would have worked out. He didn’t let the little things like that get him down, and always came out of those lost causes with a smile on his lips and the same carefree attitude that he always had. But now, it all made sense. Nothing else had worked out because the perfect woman for him had been right there all along. For six years, she had been his other half, as necessary in his life as the air that he breathed. All that time that they had basically been together with the exception of that physical intimacy, and it seemed that Jared had just been blind to the whole thing. Maybe it was because he had subconsciously been afraid of ruining what they had (even though that seemed far fetched even to Jared, as he knew him and his tendency to just go for things and worry about the consequences later), or maybe it was just the fact that he did live on his own little world most of the time, and that created enough distance for him not to see what had always been right there.
By God, he had seen it now, though, and he was doing this right there in their very own igloo that they had just constructed that winter afternoon. So he hadn’t gotten her a real gift; that was something that he could deal with and think about later. Right now, he was sitting in a dark little igloo telling this girl that he loved that he had finally seen this light. He just hoped that she had been seeing it too, or this was all going to seem very, very foolish. However, a pretty little smile came to play on her lips, and Jared knew that this hadn’t been a fool’s errand at all. Hope was coursing through him as he watched Randi scoot closer to him. What she said was basically music to the young man’s ears, an even wider smile on his lips when she was done with words and leaned in to kiss him. In all the years that he had known Randi, they had never once kissed. He might have kissed her hand once, just being a goofball, and he had placed a few quick kisses on her cheeks just to thank her for one thing or another, but there had never been a kiss like this shared between them in all the six years that they had been together. No mistletoe had caught them on the holidays, no drunken nights had found them exchange sloppy kisses they would be embarrassed about the next morning. He might have bitten her or licked her a couple of times, but that would have always been in the instance where she had something he wanted and he was doing that just to irritate her, nothing sexy or kinky about it. This was their first kiss, and Jared couldn’t help but to think that it really was the most perfect first kiss in the history of first kisses. Ever. It didn’t matter that they were both cold and that they were sitting in an igloo. It wouldn’t have been perfect had it been any other way. When the pulled away from each other, a smile was still firmly on Jared’s lips. “Yes, I am saying that I’m in love with you, pretty girl. I know it took me forever, but I don’t know why because I think I was in love with you from day one. And you know what? I’m really glad you want me. Otherwise, I think I would have to try to choke myself with this ridiculous little bow.”
He grinned as he leaned in and kissed her again, this kiss lasting a little longer than the first but damn, they had waited so long for this moment. This time when he pulled away, he stayed just a few inches from her face, the soft smile on his lips touching his light eyes as he looked down into her pretty dark ones. “And you know what else? This little Rudolph nose thing is adorable.” He leaned forward and placed a soft, sweet kiss on the end of her nose that was cold to the touch, hence why it always turned red out the winter weather. Randi always complained about it, but Jared had always thought it was just cute on her. “You’re just like Randi the Red Nosed Reindeer….God, how have I not thought of that before!” He knew that he was going to owe her for that one, and he fully expected a punch in the arm for it. But come on, it was funny! Either way, the two of them still had to build a snowman with Amy, which really didn’t go all that badly. Jared only pelted his younger sister with a couple of snowballs, and he hated to admit it but the snowman was actually a little fun to make. All of it was made even better, though, just because he knew he had Randi, and afterward they headed inside to a room at the bed and breakfast and snuggled in with two mugs of his mother’s famous hot chocolate. How this day could get any better, Jared had not a clue. All he knew was that he was so genuinely happy as he wrapped his arm around Randi’s shoulders and pulled her in close to place another kiss on her forehead, waiting on her to pick a movie for them to settle in with.

Absolutely nothing could have made this day any better. Randi had expected to have a good time and spend the day with her absolute best friend in the entire world. That was how she had spent almost everyday of her life for the past six years, attached to Jared's hip. The two of them were inseperable, and there were so many peope that questioned the purity of their relationship. She had heard everything that she could possibly hear about the two of them. Apparently it was some kind of disaster for her and Jared to spend so muc time together. Apparently she was a whore because everyone though she and Jared were sleeping together. It was completely deranged because she had never slept with anyone, ever. She had been waiting for the blonde man to come to his senses, and it was silly because they were friends. But it had all begun because of their sheer perfectness for each other. He was just as crazy as she was, he was gorgeous and was a total sweetheart.
Randi had dated others, but no one had mattered to her like Jared Trent. Even after the boy had graduated she was still attached to his hip. As soon as she was out of class the fourteen year old had been bounding to the bed and breakfast to begin their escapade. But none compared to the building of this igloo. The best part was that she had never wanted anything except for him. He completed her in so many ways and sure more than anything she had wanted to tell her friends all through high school that she had claimed one of the Trent boys as her own. Especially since it was Jared. But she just went into the igloo never ecpecting what had happened to happen. She had never thought that he wanted her as much as she wanted him. She had known that he was the man for her since the very first day that he called her pretty girl. She had always known that she would be his, she just had never expected that it would take six years for him to realize the same thing.
As soon as he had spoken her heart had lept with joym she had let her words just spread from her lips, and she was fairly certain that he had told her that he was in love with her. She had always dreamed of how this was going to happen, and when she thought about it there was no other way to do this. They had built a magnificent igloo, and this was true Jared and Randi style. He would confess his true feelings for he, and she would ask him what took so long. It was true fashion for the two of them. She had never dreamt that her emotions would take over her like that, and even though she questioned what took so long it was nothing. In her eyes this was finally as it was supposed to be. She scooted her petite body closer, and she let her want come over her. She let her lips find his, and it crossed her mind that this was their first kiss. Never in six years had they kissed, and this one was special. More special than any other kiss that she had shared with anyone. The simplicity was what made it perfect, and he was just perfect. Nothing could have made it better.
Then he started to speak and it made her smile even brighter. She could totally see Jared trying to choke himself with that bow if she had told him otherwise. She adored the boy more than anything, and even though it had taken six years to get to this point, but now that they were there it was perfect. "Well my dear Jared you do not need to choke yourself with the bow. Because in case you didn't get the point by me calling you boyfriend, I am totally head over heels in love with you. I have been in love with you since you called me pretty girl. I just can't believe it took us six years to get here."
she smiled brightly and then his lips caught hers again. This kiss lingeered more and it was exactly the kind of kiss she ecpected from Jared. She was left wanting more and more, but it was the best thing she could have asked for. She felt his head still close to her, and she was drawn to the fact that her nose had to be bright bright red. So naturally he was going to sit there and make fun of her. But her fingers had almost made their way back when she heard him speak again. There was no way that he thought this was cute. But sure enough his lips had found their way down to her nose and placed a soft small kiss on the tip of her bright red nose. Then he called her Randi the Red Nosed Reindeer, and even though she wanted to laugh, because let's face it it was funny, she let her jaw drop and punched him in the arm. "you were better off not thinking of it, but you are lucky I still love you." she laughed lightly at that because it was just cute. After building the snowman with Amy, which eneded in some snowball fights and the like, but that was what happened. Randi and Jared were often times throwing them and just letting Amy do her own thing. It was not that bad, but soon she was headed into the bed and breakfast that was like a third home for her. She was greeted with mom's famous hot chocolate, and it was soon heading up to the room that she would be snuggling next to her boyfriend. She snuggled up against him and felt him pull her in closer to him. It was something she had been wanting more than anything. So as she flipped through the channels she tried to figure out what movie to watch. In all honesty she had cared less about the movie, so she handed the remote over and buried herself in closerto him. Her red nose was fading and the more she thought about this the happier she was.
