Mykayla couldn't help but to roll her eyes in a somewhat dramatic fashion. It wasn't something that the young woman had a tendency of doing, but this moment definitely called for eye rolling. She adored her oldest brother, she really did, and she knew that he couldn't help his overprotective ways. Kade had been like that as long as Kay could remember, always looking out for his younger siblings to the point that he almost seemed overbearing, yet none of them had ever minded. It was nice to know that someone was always looking out for them, always there if a time ever arose that they would need him. Kade had certainly come to Mykayla's aid now, and she knew that she could never thank him enough for coming home just for her. She had asked him to step into the middle of this, asked him to come home and help her through all the hard times that she was going to face regardless the outcome of this, and he had done so without a second thought. And even though she was rolling her pretty blue eyes at him now, she was so grateful for everything that he was doing for her. Kay just wished he would lighten up a little. "I just don't think you should go. Do you even know what working in a restaurant requires? You're worn out already. Just call Greyson up and tell him that you can't make it." This was what they were bickering over today. Sometimes it was over what she should eat, other times it was whether or not she should be driving because of her random moments of sickness. Today, it was over whether or not she should go to Greyson McCarthy's restaurant and help out like she had said she would do.
"Kade, one evening spent on my feet isn't going to kill me. If I get tired, or sick, I'll take a break. I'm tired of making up excuses for everyone, and I especially don't want to have to make up one for him." She had already been neglecting Grey, someone that she thought of as an extremely close friend and thought the world of. It had killed her when she realized that he had thought that he had done something to cause her to avoid him, because that was so far from the truth that it was ridiculous. And really, what could Grey have ever done? She ran a brush through her long blonde hair, thankful that she still had it, but her eyes flashed to Kade's reflection as he sat at the edge of her bed, arms crossed over his chest and he was still not pleased. "You're the one that wanted to keep this from people, Mykayla. Lying and coming up with excuses is a part of that." Of course he was right, and Kay knew that she was going to have to continue doing this and hoped that things got better and that she wouldn't even have to tell people, wouldn't have to worry them or make them sad. "But, if you want to go I guess I can't stop you. Just take care of yourself, okay?" Mykayla smiled, turning away from her mirror and walking over to Kade where he had stood and giving him a kiss on the cheek. Despite what people were saying about him over the big ordeal with Brittany Hale, Kade Trent really was a good man, and he took care of Mykayla so well. He couldn't deny her anything, and he left to go about his own business, giving Kay enough time to finish getting ready before she headed out.
Fire And Ice was a well known restaurant in town, and the one where Mykayla would be spending her evening to pay a debt owed to her best friend for not spending time with him, apparently. It was true that she had never worked in a restaurant like this before, but Kay was extremely willing and glad to help out wherever she could. She was feeling oddly well tonight, too, which only made her outlook on this evening so much brighter. She hoped that it lasted and that she wouldn't need to take extra breaks or be a hindrance rather than be helpful. She especially didn't want to have to go home sick, call Kade, and admit that he had been right, that she really couldn't handle this and that she should have called it off. Mykayla was going to look on the bright side, and she wore a smile on her lips as she parked her car in the parking lot, and then made her way up to the main entrance. It seemed like it had been so long since she had actually been here, but the place was so familiar, so comfortable and Mykayla felt perfectly at ease despite the knowledge that she would probably be working her little butt off not too long after Greyson got a hold of her. The trick was going to be finding Greyson first. She was there right at six o'clock, precisely when Grey had told her to arrive, and people already seemed to be pouring in for a good meal and an enjoyable time at the establishment. Upon entering, Mykayla's blue eyes looked around for any sign of Grey, or anyone else that worked there and could point her in the right direction. He had said to come to the back and find him, but she wasn't quite sure she knew how to back there and it would seem rude to just barge in, anyway.
She spotted a young woman that worked there, and Kay was glad to see that she was coming up front to meet her rather than Kay having to look like a stalker and chase her down through the restaurant. The other woman wore a smile on her lips as she approached, and asked very pleasantly what it was that she could do for Mykayla this evening. "I'm a friend of Greyson's. I'm actually here looking for him," she said, letting the girl know that there was no need to reach for the menu or silverware like she had been going to. There was a thought that crossed Mykayla's mind as she spoke, though, going back to the instant messenger conversation that she and Grey had had and how he said that one of the girls that worked for him was something of a stalker that didn't take kindly to the women that came to the restaurant looking for him. Kay didn't like to think poorly of others, but she couldn't help but to wonder if this was the girl that Grey had warned her about and what kind of reaction she might get if it actually was her. She had seen enough Lifetime movies to know it could end badly, but she also thought that she was just being silly and letting what was probably a joke make her over think the situation entirely.

------- grey smiled at the hostess with a genuine smile as she joked about how he looked dapper in his dress pants and button-up shirt, but the "shoe choice," as she said, was off-setting the look. it was getting easier being the owner of a restaurant, but even grey had to admit that the dress code wasn't easy. though he didn't have to, he was expected to dress up when he was out on the floor. the only time he ever had come in to work wearing his regular clothes, it was only to help out in the kitchen for a couple of hours. any other time he was dressed as he should be. of course, he had to add his own personal flare, which in came the converses. "not all of us can be as beautiful in whatever we wear, allie." he said with a wink before nudging her playfully. luckily, allie wasn't the type to take anything he did seriously. she knew when he was playing and when he wasn't. every other worker in his establishment - minus his friend and co-owner who worked as the chef - never understood how he acted. they thought his sarcastic tone was him being mean, or for one certain girl, flirting in a way that he wanted her. kate was the new waitress he had hired, and from day one she had been all over grey, and more importantly, a bitch to any other girl who talked to grey. it was as if she was stalking him in some ways, and it was not wanted! as if she had read his thoughts and her name being in it, the petite red-head was at his side with a big, seductive smile. her excuse this time was that his partner, felix, was asking for him. giving her a nervous smile and nod, the twenty-five year old excused himself from the two girls and went into the kitchen.
------- as he pushed open the door, he immediately heard the angry voice that belonged to felix. grey prepared himself to break up an argument over preparing the food, or just hear the rants about the waitresses and waiters not going their job correctly. a sigh escaped his lips as grey listened to the complaints rolling out of his friend's mouth. it wasn't long before he was finished and back to cooking whatever order was next to be made. "you just do your chef thing, felix." just as the words left his mouth, he let his eyes drift to the window in the door. what he saw was none other than his best friend and one-time crush, mykayla trent. a smile slipped onto his face as he watched her look around the place - clearly looking for him. it had been a while since he had hung out with her. she was usually here every day, but lately she never came around. naturally, grey thought it was his fault, but she assured him it wasn't the second they did speak. she had also agreed to help out at the restaurant tonight, so he wasn't too surprised to see her. no doubt, though, he always felt excitement when she was near. in the past, it would have been for his major crush on her. he had always had a thing for her and pined for the day when she would notice him in that way. she never did, and his feelings faded away into more of a friendship type. or had they? seeing her brought all of these memories back, but he pushed them to the side as just "memories" and not "feelings."
------- sneaking out of the ktichen, grey noiselessly made his way over to kay, who was now asking allie where he was. without saying a word, the twenty-five year old wrapped his arms around her waist and spun her around to face him before lifting her up, giving a twirl in his spot. as he sat her back down, he finally spoke. "it's none other than my best friend, miss trent." a smile was on his face the entire time, and it must have spread, because even allie was smiling, too, at the sight of them. "kay, you remember allie, right?" he knew what she was thinking: the stalker girl. without even saying anything, he just nodded over to where kate stood with her eyes glued to grey and kay, telling his best friend of many years which one she needed to watch out for.

She thought that after spending so much time in the establishment with her close friend, that she should definitely know her way around better than this. Mykayla was a bright, intelligent kind of girl that enjoyed classic works or literature and had never received less than an A in a class, ever, but she was always a bit of a day dreamer and could easily get distracted. Her brilliant blue eyes didn't miss much, but she were engaged in some kind of great conversation with Grey, she could have easily missed details about this place. And, to be honest, Greyson McCarthy had always had a way about him that had always made Mykayla want to give him her undivided attention whenever he was around. Everything he said seemed much too important to miss even a single word, and he was just so captivating to her without ever having to try. Funny how now her infatuation with her friend seemed to leave her not knowing where he was or how to get to him, and was also potentially leaving her at the hands of a psychotic young woman who would not be pleased with the information that Kay had just presented her with. However, this woman seemed friendly, seemed like someone Mykayla should even know... Why were all the details escaping her tonight? She bit down on her bottom lip, a cute little habit that Kay had developed over the years when she was uncertain or just trying to think.
But, before this girl even had a chance to reply or shout at her or stab her with a set of silverware if she really was the obsessive stalker, Mykayla felt arms wrapping around her waist. Kay let out a little girly squeal in surprise as she was turned around, her eyes catching sight of one Mister Greyson McCarthy. A bright smile lit up her face as he picked her up and spun her around, a giggle escaping her lips then as he sat her down again. Leave it to Grey to just show up and surprise her like that, but it was one of the many things that Mykayla had always adored about the man. He certainly knew how to make her smile, and she was just so grateful that she was here now. But he was soon directing her attention to Allie, and Kay smiled at the girl but not failing to notice the pointed look that went along with Grey's nod in a different direction. Mykayla glanced in that same direction, her eyes finding a red haired woman standing some distance from them but her eyes obviously locked on them. Oh. Kay looked back at Greyson with understanding. That was the woman that he had been telling her about, and unfortunately she was not just some made up joke to put Kay on edge. Mykayla quickly pushed that out of her thoughts as she smiled politely back at Allie, though, exchanging a few small pleasantries , as sweet as could be, before she turned back to Grey, looking up into his hansom face. "Okay, Grey, you got me here. Point me where I need to go, boss man." Mykayla was more than happy to help out, and she was actually rather pleased to be given her orders and then being sent on her merry little way.
Grey hadn't been lying when he had told her that he could use the extra help around the place. She wasn't sure if they were just temporarily short staffed or if it was just this busy all the time, but it seemed that she was going around and filling in in just about every position possible. She had come dressed in clothes that made her a presentable hostess, her cheerfully greeting costumers as they rolled in. Then she would turn around and go play waitress, refilling drinks for customers and helping other waiters carry plates and large trays out of the kitchen and onto the tables of those awaiting their meals. She had a smile for everyone, making the usual small talk and making sure that everyone she had the pleasure of waiting on was happy before she moved onto the next person or next task that someone would ask for assistance with. Thank goodness she had worn comfortable shoes, because she didn't think that she had been up on her feet like this in a very long time. It was exciting, though, and while she knew that if it were her job she would probably think otherwise, she had thought it had been really fun to do. That was just Kay, though, always chipper and approaching things with a positive attitude. By the end of the evening, she was not able to deny that she was tired, but she didn't head out along with everyone else. Mykayla stayed there with Greyson, helping with closing up and whatever else there was left for him to do. At the end, she had hoisted herself up onto a counter in the back, blue eyes on him as he stood there in front or her, busying his hands with something. "That was a lot of fun tonight. Who knew I could be that handy." She smiled over at him. "But, I do believe part of this whole deal was us getting to spend some time together, and I feel like I didn't see you at all! I had no idea it got so busy."

------- with a silent understanding of who his "stalker" was out of the way, grey could now focus on what he was going to need kay do for the night. there was always help needed with the hostess stand on nights like these, and the same for serving and taking orders. his blue eyes scanned the dining room, trying to figure out where to put her first, but before he could decide the petite blonde had taken it upon herself to find out where she was going for the night. grey smiled as his focus went back to her. "well, you can start by helping allie with the hostess stand. and if you're needed, you could help the waiting staff. they can always use a helping hand! other than those, just do whatever. if it looks like it needs help, go for it!" without realizing what he was doing, he rested his hand on the small of her back and gently moved her to the side as he smiled at customers coming in. "i, unfortunately, won't be out on the floor much, so if you need anything, i'll be in my office." the twenty-five year old removed his hand from her back as he signed a sheet of paper a worker brought over to him. he spoke to allie one final time before he gave kay a big smile, walking towards his office backwards, so that he was still facing his friend. "oh, don't forget to have fun and avoid you-know-who!" grey wiggled his eyebrows in a playful manner before spinning around to face forward.
------- the rest of the night was spent inside his office minus the occasion when he did step out to check up on his restaurant. usually he was able to spend the whole time out on the floor, but of course the one night he wanted to be out there bills were due, and papers needed filing and signed. when he did get out on the floor, he found himself amazed at how kay adapted to the work. most people were a total mess on their first night, but not her. she was helping out - as told - where needed. a smile never left her face, either, which was what astounded him. even he had slip-ups here and there. hell, some nights he had to go outside or in his office to avoid having a meltdown or fight in the middle of the dining room. customer after customer flooded into the little restaurant until it was full at the maximum. once the crowd simmered down, grey found himself in the kitchen helping out felix with the food. he had never been the best chef, but he knew the basics of what needed to be done for some dishes. pretty soon he realized that the last order had been sent out and was consumed, and the night was over. after everyone had cleaned their stations, grey said goodbye to his staff, letting them all out before locking the front door. the only two left were him and mykayla. the pair of friends found themselves in the kitchen after everything was locked up. kay, of course, was seated on the counter with grey standing in front of her - receipts in hand.
------- as his eyes scanned over each one to make sure everyone signed off, he heard kay begin to speak. it was then he realized that despite seeing her off and on all night, he had yet to spend time with her, listening to her voice that used to make butterflies fly around in his stomach. her words made the brunette smile once again. "i'm glad you liked it! i'd hire you, but that may cause trouble among staff." he sad with a wink - finally letting his eyes drift up to hers. he chuckled softly. "what, you thought i lied about being busy? how little you know me, kay." a sly smirk was etched on his face as he laid the receipts down on a nearby counter. "but you're right! we haven't spent time together. do you want something to eat?" grey reached above her to grab the bread to make sandwiches only to knock over the bag, causing it to fall on the blonde. the only thing he could do was laugh at his clumsiness, shaking his head as he tried to stop it from coming out more. "sorry i didn't mean -" as he said the words, he tried to pick up the few pieces that had fallen out of the bag and onto her lap, but only managed to let his fingers graze her skin. the feel of her warm skin caused every word to escape his mind. unconsciously, he licked his lips before pulling his hand away and smiling nervously. "uh, sandwich? i think felix hides the meats and cheeses somewhere in here." as he looked, he cursed under his breath for how childish he was acting.

She was truly amazed that she had made it through the night as a waitress (and had managed to avoid the red haired stalker!). Kade had told her that it was going to be too hard, and Mykayla had heard several accounts from friends that had tried their own hand at waitressing and how difficult of a job it could really turn out to be. Everyone said that it was stressful, and she had been told all the horror stories of people not able to handle the stress and the fast pace you had to work at. Kay had found it enjoyable, always being on her toes and getting to interact with so many different people in one night. Mykayla was always a social girl, a town favorite and she really did love getting to catch up, even briefly so, with members of the Arietta community that she hadn't been able to see in quite some time. It was like how it had been with Greyson, her always being snatched away to school or to a hospital in some other part of the state for appointment after appointment, but no one could even know where she had been or what she was up to. Her excuses were nothing more than vague lies, and Kay was no liar. She hated repeating them time and time again, and she especially hated trying to come up with some cover with Greyson, but so far he hadn't even asked, seeming to have taken her word for it that she had just been busy, and she was grateful for that. Kay was just glad to finally have him all to herself, smiling over at him despite how tired her poor little body was really beginning to feel.
Kay couldn't help but to grin at the idea of him hiring her, though. She had enjoyed that evening very much and didn't think a couple nights a week would be too bad to take on, even though Kade would certainly hate it and probably bring his wrath down on poor, unknowing Greyson. A small giggle passed through her lips as she caught the wink he sent her way. She was sure that the rest of the staff had found her to be excellent, but she knew what he was getting at and it only made her shake her head. It was amazing how some people reacted so strongly to things, and while Kay thought it was just silly, she still didn't think that she wanted to get in the middle of whatever that girl had going on in her head with Greyson. At least, not here at his restaurant. She was pleased to see him set the receipts that he had been going through down, knowing that she had gotten his attention but at the same time feeling just a little bad that she was keeping him from doing something that obviously needed to be done. However, there wasn't much that she could do now that he was in motion, offering to make her something to eat and reaching over her head for the loaf of bread. But then it seemed to be raining bread, Kay ducking out of the way in surprise at first, and then laughing as she realized that her best friend had managed to spill a loaf of bread on her. Poor Greyson, and Kay only watched as he reached down to pick up the few pieces that had fallen into her lap. "Sorry, I didn't mean-" but then his words died on his lips, both of them registering that smallest, simplest of touches to her skin.
It was hard to understand everything that surged through her body in that moment, but there was a part of Mykayla that understood it all too perfectly. That understanding was coming at such a horrible time, though, Kay sure she had missed her chance with Greyson, and knowing that even if she hadn't, it was unfair to ask something like that of him. But the heart wants what the heart wants, and her heart had realized that it had been Grey all along. "You don't have to make me a sandwich," she said to him, her voice quieter now as she looked down, cupping her hands neatly in her lap. She toyed with the words in her head, looking up moments later and knowing that he was distracting himself with this effort of making a sandwich. "Greyson..." She wanted so much to say one thing, but there was just the question of how to gracefully segue into something like that. "You should dance with me at that wedding, you know." Not all that graceful, but she was hoping that this could get them to that, put his mind in a different place, because she knew hers was. Everything about the way she was looking at him and the tone of her voice suggested it, if only he caught it.

------- grey kept busy for the next minute or so looking for any type of cheese, meat, or toppings for their sandwiches. the touch from before had sent sparks up through his finger tips, igniting everything he had felt for mykayla years ago flooding back into his mind. he knew it had to be due to the memories of always wanting to be able to do that, right? it had to! that was the only explanation he would allow himself to come to. finally finding what he needed, grey moved to the counter next to her and began preparing the food. he kept his head lowered and his eyes on his work. the silence stretched before them before kay finally spoke. her words made grey shake his head. "you have to be starving. tonight was a long shift." his eyes never once lifted from the food beneath him. once again, nothing could be heard within the kitchen except for the making of the sandwiches and their breathing. it wasn't until the petite blonde next to him said his name that he actually stopped, closing his eyes in the process. he loved when she said his full name. most people just called him grey - even his family. of course, only she could make his heart race when she said it, too. after all of these years, he was slowly realizing that maybe - just maybe - he wasn't over her like he thought he was. the next statement genuinely made him chuckle as his eyes opened and found their way to the blue ones staring at him that always seemed to be searching his soul when looked at.
------- he gave a smile as he half-turned to face her a little better. "i told you i wasn't a good dancer." so, maybe he wasn't the best, but he could at least dance enough to where he didn't look like a complete fool on the dance floor when forced to. grey liked a challenge, so maybe that was why he always denied being able to dance in any way, wanting people to protest him and make him. that would also account for why he used to like mykayla in a "more than friends" way when they were younger. the challenge of it all was having an unrequited love and risking a friendship in the process. biting his lower lip, he lowered his head once again to stare at his feet. his thought process at the moment was so confusing that he couldn't register whether what he was feeling was from his heart or his head. "you could always dance with that jem guy. he seemed very fond of you back in the day." he sighed as he finished the sentence before starting a new one. "or any guy, for that matter. you're the prettiest girl in arietta, so you shouldn't have any problem finding a date." this time he was actually being truthful enough that he could smile about it. there was no doubt in his mind that kay was the prettiest girl - maybe ever - whether or not he liked her more or not.

Mykayla had always been a very sweet, innocent type of girl. She had always been honest, almost to a fault, but there was one thing that she had a lot of trouble being honest about: her own feelings. If it was dealing with something simple, like whether or not she wanted something, or how she felt about a person in general, she could do that with ease. It was when it came down to liking someone as more than just a friend, or falling in love with someone, that the girl suddenly became shy when otherwise she was the most outgoing girl around. Kay honestly believed in love and knew that it was out there for the finding, but she was such a modest, almost naive girl that she never thought that someone could actually feel that way about her. Of course she had dated before, and had even found one man that had loved her very much, but it had taken a long time for her to admit to him her own feelings because she was so afraid that he would change his mind. Being here with Grey, she was reminded of all those previous fears and she felt so uneasy. What if she pushed this, and it ruined what they had? What if he was another one of those guys that could be interested in her, but not for the reasons she wanted them to be? But, Kay had made a decision that she couldn't keep living her life afraid of such little things when so much of her future was uncertain now.
She wanted him to realize that she wasn't just talking about a dance, and wanted him to talk to her about this. She couldn't help that small smile that came to her lips as he told her that he wasn't a good dancer. Like that was going to be enough to stop her from pursuing this. Dancing wasn't a hard thing to do, and surely he could figure it out enough to share just one little dance with her. Mykayla was kind of surprised by just how much she wanted just that one thing, just one dance, but she also knew why she was feeling that way. Grey lowered his gaze from hers once again, though, looking down at his feet as he suggested that she could dance with Jem. That made the smile fade from her lips almost immediately. Jem Hale was a great man, the one and only that Mykayla had ever been in a true, serious relationship with to date. She couldn't say that she was opposed to the idea of dancing at him at her brother's wedding reception, as she was still very fond of him and thought a lot of him, but that wasn't what she was looking for. Then he was telling her that she wouldn't have any trouble finding a date, and although his compliment that he had mixed in there was very touching and had made her heart skip a beat, Kay was still not pleased with this. Why was he being so stubborn? Why wasn't he seeing that she wasn't just talking about a dance anymore? Greyson usually knew her so well, able to pick up on the slightest of things. Mykayla supposed that this was an entirely different topic as compared to their usual daily banter, though, and that she was going to have to stop being so cryptic.
She gently reached out with one hand and touched his arm from where she still sat up on the counter, hoping to get him to look back up at her with his pretty blue eyes. "Jem is a really great guy, and I'd be lucky to steal him away from his new girlfriend long enough for a dance. And maybe I could find someone else... but I don't want anyone else. I want you." Her hand still lingered on his arm, reminding her of how earlier in the evening how he had let his hand lay against the small of her back. Mykayla was being so, so honest, and she really hoped that he could see that, hear it, feel it. This was hard enough as it was, and she didn't know that she could make this any clearer without having to draw this boy a map. She felt her lips twitch upward in the smallest of smiles, hoping that something could just work here.

------- why was he acting like this? it was mykayla, for christ's sake. she was his best friend. sure, he used to have a crush that was undeniably heart wrenching every time he was near her, but that was gone. he had moved on. he was able to be around her without wanting to grab and kiss her. or was he? that was certainly all he could see in his mind now as he stood in her presence. it had been a long time since it was just them together. usually someone else was nearby in some way or another, so that had to be why he was feeling this way. any girl in his presence without supervision made him think this way, right? but kay wasn't just any girl. she had once been the object which his world revolved around, and slowly it was going back to that way. did she like him, though? that was the question he wanted answered so badly that it was killing him now. he couldn't bring up those feelings again if she didn't want him. it had taken him too long to get over her so long ago, and he didn't want to screw it up. grey had been the screw-up in his life way too many times before. his family saw him that way, too. his parents couldn't hide their disappointment when he told them he was dropping out of college to pursue a dream of owning a restaurant. his siblings always jumped on a chance to tease their big brother about it - despite knowing that it really hurt him sometimes. but, of course, he was the oldest and was always expected to hold it all together.
------- that was one of the reasons that grey loved being around the blonde before him. after all of these years, she never once looked down on him or treated him like his family did. she believed in him on days that he didn't even want to. that was one reason he fell so hard for her! with the simple touch of kay's hand to his arm, every thing he had ever felt for kay came flooding back into his body. his blue eyes first went to where her hand rested before they fluttered up to meet those staring at him, too. her words caused his heart to race as she spoke them. as she said the last sentence, grey inhaled deeply. it was only three words long, but it was something he had longed to hear from day one of meeting her. in one smooth, swift motion, grey cupped kay's face in his hands as he stared into her eyes with every emotion laid out on display. "how could i say no to that?" his lips gently brushed hers in a soft kiss after the words came out. every cell in his body was on fire from that moment on. he had been waiting for the moment, and now that it was here, he was holding on for dear life, waiting for it all to just come crashing down in on him.

Maybe now he would be able to see it, see what he hadn't allowed her to fully show him the last time they had spoken. Granted, it had been an instant messenger conversation, of all things, and this was not something that two people should try to figure out over the internet like that. That day she thought that she could read a touch of soreness in his words, like it had actually hurt that she had never looked at him a certain way, and that they would only ever just be friends. That was what had led her to try, to have hope that maybe it wasn't just her that had been feeling these things all along. But, it hadn't been the place and time and Mykayla had let the conversation go back to light and easy topics and their usual banter. She had come in tonight with the hopes that she would get time to talk to him, that there would be a good way to bring it up and to hopefully get this figured out before it literally made her poor little heart burst. Kay hadn't been too sure that she would get her wish at the beginning of the night, what with how busy things were and seeming like they were never going to settle, but here they were in the kitchen and she had just put everything on the line and prayed that he didn't reject her or give her a reason to want to die on the spot because she had read his actions wrong.
Then, Greyson was abandoning all efforts to put together a sandwich and had moved, his soft hands gently cupping the sides of her face. It was a strong reaction, Kay realizing she had absolutely said something to flick a switch in the young man's brain and allow this to happen. She smiled as she heard his one sentence, and her heart skipped what felt like several beats with just that one, simple kiss. When their eyes met, Mykayla could feel all the emotions, every single feeling that flowed through the two of them and it was purely amazing. She couldn't have hoped for a better response, and she loved the way that he was looking at her, which was the same way that she knew she was looking at him. Her heart seemed so full, but in the best possible way. "I've always wanted you to do that," she told him, her voice soft and barely above a whisper before she leaned in, allowing her lips to press against his in another sweet kiss. She knew that she was a lucky girl for finally getting this, for having this one thing in her life that was perfect, but those thoughts weren't anywhere near her mind in that moment. All that she could think about was Greyson, how his lips felt moving against hers, how he tasted, and how her hands trailed down along his arms, wanting him closer to her.
The next few moments were filled with more passion and heat than the young girl had yet to experience with anyone before. It seemed that now that she had gotten what she wanted, she couldn't get enough of him and the way she felt when she was kissing him. Kay was not the kind of girl that usually found herself in these situations, but this was Grey and he was that one guy that had been right there in front of the entire time, her always wanting him but never thinking that he could want her back. She would gladly kiss him like this, letting him feel all those pent up emotions that she had harbored for him for years and just enjoy the way it felt with his hands moving over her. There was something so sensual about it, and she was really enjoying him and just everything about that moment until Kay felt him start to push farther, seeming to ask for something more. It seemed that this was steadily heading in one direction, and though it wasn't like Mykayla had never had sex before, she didn't think she could do this now. She wanted Greyson, and she cared so much about him, but it was so much, and so fast. Then a thought struck, and her lips stopped responding to his immediately. What if he didn't really want her? What if he just wanted sex, a casual hook up, and that was it? She put her hands against his chest, pushing her small body away from his. "Stop," she said quietly, looking down for a second before her blue eyes looked back into his. "I can't do this. It can't happen this way." And even if she was mistaken, even if he really did want her, she couldn't stand the idea of their first time together happening in a kitchen with her up on the counter.

------- kay's next words only made grey smile bigger than he had in years. maybe she had felt the same way after all these years after all? she had to - otherwise she would have never said that. moving his hands to back, so that he could pull her closer to him as his lips found their way back to hers. the kiss was hungry and in need of everything they had missed out on. all grey could think as he kissed her was that this was what he wanted. he wanted every bit of this, and more! he wanted to be with kay. he always had, and he sort of always knew that in some way. of course, being his naive self, he thought it was more of a friends need than anything else once he had "moved on." he had ignored all of the comments from his family - when he did seem them - that he was destined to be with her. he had denied feeling something for her now whenever his cousin, roxy, had talked about how he looked at mykayla differently. he had laughed off amy's comments about his crush on her sister. all of these years in denying what he wanted most, and he was tired of it. now he had her! he had her in his arms. he was kissing her. grey was finally kissing mykayla!
------- moving one of his hands to her neck, he pulled her in even closer - if possible - so that he could feel the heat of her against his chest. after he did this, his hands roamed the rest of her body, caressing every inch. it had reached the moment when the thought of sleeping with her entered his mind. could he do that, though? they had been friends for so long that any wrong move could ruin it all in a second. but he wanted it! that same line kept going through his mind every time he tried to talk himself out of what he was doing. without a word, his hands drifted to the hem of her shirt. his fingers gently caressed her skin as he slowly lifted it up, but soon kay pulled away and told him to stop. grey was taken aback when she did this. was she changing her mind? or worse... had she never wanted it at all, and only kissed him and said those words out of the heat of the moment?
------- his brow furrowed as he listened to her speak. his worst fear had been answered in one moment. all he wanted now was to get the hell out of there and away from her. how could she do this to him? didn't she know how he felt? had he not just laid his heart out there by even doing what they just had been? stepping away from her, grey turned around so that he was no longer facing her. his teeth were clenched tightly as he tried not to break down right there. he never let this happen to him, and now that it had he wasn't sure if he wanted mykayla to be the one to see him. clearing his throat, he turned back to face her, but he never once looked at her. his eyes were either on the floor or looking past her. "um, you should probably leave." it hurt grey to say that in such a cold manner like he did, but that was how he felt at the moment. it was probably going to hurt kay whether or not she felt the same way he did, but it had to be done.

Pulling herself away from this man was probably one of the most difficult things that Mykayla had ever made herself do. There was no doubt in her pretty little mind that she wanted this with Greyson; he meant so, so much to her and after having realized her feelings for him she had wanted him to touch her like this, to look at her like that. The feel of his hands roaming over her body had been sensational, and the way that he had been kissing her had made her never want to have to stop. Even though this was Greyson, she was still Mykayla, and Mykayla Trent had certain ideals in her head when it came to relationships and sex, and what it all meant to her. She did not do casual sex, and she didn't sleep around. Most girls her age were out there just doing it, whether it was for the physical gratification or just for the attention, Kay didn't believe that those were the right reasons. When she slept with someone, and so far there had only been on man in her life to get that far, it meant something. She wanted someone to be in her life for more than just that one, purely physical reason, and she didn't want to give Grey any different thoughts or ideas. Unfortunately, she knew that the moment she had spoken her words, she had definitely given him some ideas, just not the ones she had intended to.
All she needed to know was that this was for real, that she wasn't going to be just another woman on his long list of women he had had thanks to his player ways. The moment that her words were out of her mouth, she saw his expression change. He stepped away from her, and then turned his back on her completely. What was this? Was he really that upset that she wouldn't have sex with him right now? Sadness and regret was etched into the blonde's face, watching Grey. She never thought he would be that kind of man, and it made her all the more wary of him in this moment. Once upon a time, there had been another boy that he had dated, a nice young man she had found in a literature class at college. He had been fantastic, right up until the point that she had told him no, she didn't want to sleep with him just yet. He had literally beaten Kay to a pulp, and even though she knew Greyson would never lay a hand on her, she couldn't help the small tinge of fear that she felt. She just didn't want to lose him, though she was almost certain that she just had. When he turned around, his eyes never met hers, and she knew it was true. His words were spoken so harshly, and it broke Mykayla's heart completely. She could feel the tears stinging at the back of her eyes, could feel them threatening to break her down. Kay gazed at him for a moment, hoping he would just look at her, but he didn't. She then slowly lowered herself from the kitchen counter, and went to find her coat and keys before letting herself out the back. He would never know how much she cried once she was securely in her car, but a small, hateful part of him hoped he knew just how much he had hurt her and he hadn't even had to lay a hand on her to do it.
